  • for every 100 target animals caught maybe 1 non-target catch is caught, most of which get released unharmed.

  • @beavthetrapper BS!!!

  • Thanks for uploading this, great video.

  • Organizations love to talk about how trappers and hunters are cruel and inhumane, the fact is without them wildlife would starve and disease would run rampant through the wildlife populations, statistics show that hunters and trappers are decreasing, and rabies and other diseases are increasing. Facts support the need for responsible harvesting of wildlife which is exactly what trappers and hunters provide.

  • @winchester7377

And how do you think nature managed to get along in those 4,5 billion years without humans? Nature does not need us at all.

  • I have seen animals suffer from disease due to not enough trappers. they suffer far more from disease and starvation. I have had many animals comfortably asleep in my traps when I get to them (soon after I catch them). Oh and they are not called leg hold traps, they are foot hold traps. they are ment to catch the pad of the foot to prevent foot damage and pain. And no animals have ever went extenct from trapping.

  • @beavthetrapper

What you are talking is absolute bull.

  • @WerewolfofOblivion how is it bull, it is the truth. science backs trapping. you have never tagged along with me on my trapline to see it. to help put the truth out there i plan to post videos showing exactly what was mentioned in my comment. watch for them, if i don't have time to post them during season then they should be up next spring.

  • @beavthetrapper

What scientific backup? There is not a single good reason to murder animals like this. Neither biological nor ethical.

  • @WerewolfofOblivion if you don't know about the scientific backup then you haven't done your research. furbearers overpopulate easily. when the numbers get higher then an area can hold then they don't have enough food to go around. in their weak state disease spreads causing them to die slow and agonizing deaths. science has show that trapping help prevent this. don't forget that if one species is starving then other species in the area that has the same diet is starving also.

  • @beavthetrapper

I did my research well enough. There is no reason to think furbearers overpopulate at all. In the case of foxes it's even the more you kill the more will be born. If there are more animals in an area than that area can feed? They wander off or they are not even born. What is and is not overpopulated is entirely decided by humans (who usually just kill for profit or because they fear for their livestock). How do you think nature managed in more than 4 billion years sans humans?

  • @WerewolfofOblivion you don't make since, animals will breed and more will be born. without trapping when they move to find food because there is not enough for them where they already are, then other places will be just the same, no food. 4 billion years.... how many species went extenct in those 4 billion years? biologists closely watch furbearer species and change limit numbers, season length, and close a season all together when needed.

  • @beavthetrapper

Animals do not breed senselessly, there will never be more animals born than their environment can support, we humans are the only creatures to defy this natural control system. Sure many species died out in natural history, but most left better adjusted species behind. Species don't die out because no one is hunting them, they die out when they are unfit to survive (climate changes, oxygen levels, etc).

  • @WerewolfofOblivion man, arn't you the brightest cookie in the potato chip bag. they breed every breeding season, regardless of animal population. some species can breed up to 3 times a year depending on wheather. they can have 10 young per litter reguarlly. find a fact source instead of anti-trapping organization and "un-biast" research groups paid by the anti-trapping orgainzations. a states furbearer biologist is a good source, they don't make money from trapping.

  • @beavthetrapper here is some scientific fact , when food is not abundant they have less young or dont reproduce at all.

Wildlife can control their own population without traps or bullets.

  • @Wildrsq if there isn't enough food then it is already to late, the animals get malnurished and starve to death, or die from disease. which is a much worse way to die then a bullet, or a kill trap. if they food source is low because of one animal it can hurt other species including endangered species. an example would be coyoties and bobcats eat rabbits, deer, and other animals about that size. if those animals numbers get to low then the canadian lynx can suffer.

  • @beavthetrapper The Canadian Lynx is suffering in the US why? Because of hunting and trapping you idiot!!! That is a fact! Look it up!

  • @Wildrsq says peta and organizations like it. they have low numbers due to loss of habitat. in alaska and a good part of canada they are doing fine. studies done by the fish and wildlife department have shown an increase in lynx numbers. the studies also show that trapping had a positive impact on the lynx populations in maine.

  • @beavthetrapper habitat loss and hunting/ trapping! Trapping what in Maine had a positive effect in the lynx popuation?

  • @beavthetrapper Hunting and trapping the Lynx has been closed in Maine since 1967 and US Fish and Wildlife Service has the Lynx listed as Threatened.

Why would anyone hunt or trap a Lynx? Do you eat Lynx?

  • @Wildrsq yes hunting and trapping lynx is closed in maine but the trapping of it's competion has helped it's population climb, by allowing it have a larger prey population. lynx can be eaten, it would be no different then eating bobcat and many trappers do eat bobcat.

  • @beavthetrapper Hunting and trapping of the Lynx has been closed for more than 40 years in Maine, 40 YEARS!!!And these state biologists are being paid by the people (DNR) that are in the "business" of selling OUR wildlife, not very bias or scientific if you ask me.

  • @Wildrsq they don't sell the wildlife. the fish and wildlife department is who protects the wildlife from becoming endangered and extenct. the game wardens (the law enforcment branch of the fish and wildlife depart.) do a great job catching poachers and putting them behind bars. the fish and wildlife department get paid by doing their job, without the animals they wouldn't have a job.

  • watch ur fuckin pets dumasses

  • the things wrong with this vidoe for starters the statement for every 10 animals cought only one is the right animal it should be more like every 1500 animals cought only 1 is the wrong animal. also how they were saying the foot hold torchers the animal is wrong for 2 reasons first the foot hold only holds and does not brake bones second animals dont have much felling in their feet or legs becouse the botom of their feet have little or no fur and they are still can be out in 40 below weather.

  • When the animal pulls away to get free the trap causes more damage. When the animal pulls on the snare it gets tighter. Did you watch the video that showed the dog with a missing right foot that was raw bone? Did you even watch the video? How can you say it doesn't hurt? Cats and dogs(coyotes, bobcats) have sensitive feet. And there is a difference between being able to walk around in 40 below weather and having your foot crushed or pinched by a noose.

  • @hudsonben15 If you really believe traps cause no pain, then have one of your pets step in a trap or in a noose and videotape it and put it here on youtube to prove to that they aren't in pain.

  • @hudsonben15 ... you're an idiot. the lack of fur on the pads of thier feet does not indicate an area of "no feeling", they have just evolved different circulatory systems to ensure that warm blood is always flowing through there quickly, and in doing so, keeps the paws warm. Also, alot of animals do have extra fur that grows on or near thier paws for extra warmth. Get an education.

  • @hudsonben15

Holy cow, please write in English, not gibberish. And get some education on animal biology while you're at it.

  • the statement "for every one animal that is intedent to cought in a trap 10 non intedednt animals are cought" is extremaly exagorated to tell people that have no opinoin on trapping or animal rights to side with animal rights the actual statement should be every 1500 animals cought in a trap only 1 is not the right animal.

  • I really found this video well researched, accurate, & incredibly powerful. This is a huge issue & it's time we all question current policies. It is also a growing public safety issue as more & more folks recreate on public lands.

  • very untruw video a leg hold trap is meant to hold the leg in the trap the only way you will break a leg is if the leg hold trap your using is to big for the animal and rabbits have very brittle bones and it did not break its leg so what does that say
