Not even close? Slash and Hammet have nothing difficult at all. The only things I've found is harder for me than sweeping is string skipping and Buckethead's finger nubbin'.

Sweep picking is usually played through arpeggios. Shredding is usually a more linear form of playing through scales. Of course, the two are combined alot. The main difference with sweep picking is the technique of sweeping up/down the strings and playing a single note at a time. You should watch the video I have of this guy explaining it, without doubt the best sweep picking video I've ever seen. Im gonna post it on youtube right now.

Shredding is just playing fast no matter what the technique is. Sweep picking is a specific type of technique (which Tom is doing to a level of supreme excellence in this video)

Shredding, by many people's opinions, is playing fast. Just killing it. Usually sloppy and full of high pitched notes and hammer ons and pull offs.

Sweep picking is raking the pick across the strings up and down while your fingers play a note individually. Thus, it's called sweep picking because of the sweeping sound the whole thing makes.

That's as simple as I can make it, but I hope I helped.

There isn't really a difference. Sweep picking is done in shredding. Shredding is basically going real fast using all types of scales and doing sweep picking. But sweep picking don't have to be used for only shredding though.

hey, just mute the lower strings with your thumb of your picking hand, mute the other strings with your left hand finger, either by removing pressure of your finger or by rolling your finger if the next note is on a different string but same fret

he mutes with the side of his thumb that practically rests on the strings.Its very effective but for me its a little awkward as i have to change my picking technique to use it.All in all its a great way to shut the noise down.
