What seperates the elite few from everyone else is the ability to improvise, to be able to transfer that feeling and inner emotion through the fingers and onto the fretboard. Hammet is a good guitarist yes, but no way is he even close to being great. No way is he even close to being a Steve Vai. That is why u cannot compare the two, not because they have different styles.

Don't get me wrong, Jason is a great bass player, but Rob has a slight advantage on him, and Rob is more on the same level with Het and Kirk than Jason was. Jason wanted more bluesy stuff, while Rob contributes more riffage and melodic guitar work... the shit that we all want to hear basically.

Echobrain was a side project for Jason. an outlet complete unrelated to metallica. yes, it was more soft rock than anything, but Jason also joined Ozzy Osbourne and Voivod after Metallica (both metal bands).
