  • 7:59 - Cheap pop! Also, it's funny how he debuted in the WWF the very next year.

  • Haha Conway Twitty, the country singer from Family Guy !

  • Right, Jerry, because Memphis has absolutely no homeless people to speak of.

  • useless trivia: that midsout fair lawler refer's to at 0:16 also had a young justin timberlake performing.

  • Jerry Lawler is a class act...period

  • @samtheacman Don't call guy whose memorable matches include punching out women and pile driving his former wife a class act. . .unless you mean low class.

What's his beef with Bruno except envy?

  • Wow if only Lawler could see this vid on his annoucement table on Monday night and say fuck wwe I'm gone. The sad thing is that most "fans" these days are the ones who chant boring during wrestling matches and just want the pyro technics and hollywood writing bullshit.

  • @calamaty Lawlers got the best deal in wrestling he works 5 days a month in WWE on TV and PPV. He came wrestle indy dates and in his own promotion as well. He's the only man in the business making huge money for the WWE, with his own promotion in Memphis and on the indy scene. Its no wonder he sucks as a commentator now. He's rolling in the money no matter what he does.

  • @ianhitman : He hasn't had his own promotion in quite a while... he briefly had a rinky-dink one for a couple months last year, but his last one was in '97.

  • By around the world, he means the Fairgrounds and anywhere else in/around Memphis.

  • that's when it was great cause there were SO many different organisations giing now we have WWE and thats it

  • This can't be from September of '91. Lawler has the AWA title, and the AWA was gone by 1990.

  • @RyanKBoman Yeah it is. Snowman ripped off the Unified title in 1990 and wouldn't give it back, so Lawler started using the AWA belt again.

  • @lizardman77

Yep. And that AWA belt now sits in Dave Millican's house!

  • @MrNWA4Life Lawler still had that AWA belt as of 2006. He showed it on WWE's DVD release about the AWA.

  • @c102484

In the late 90's Lawler traded the original AWA World belt to Dave Millican in exchange for a new copy. That new copy was stolen by Dutch Mantel. Lawler eventually had yet another copy made, which was on the WWE DVD. Trust me, Lawler's is a copy. It's just like mine in that both have Dave's name stamped into the leather. The original has the bars bent in and has Reggie Parks' name stamped in it. Go to the DaveMillicanBelts site, he has pics there.

  • @c102484

Dave's Email address is posted on his website so if you don't believe me you can ask him. He's told me the story of how he got it from Lawler, sold it, and had to pay 5 figures to get it back!

  • @lizardman77 \Thanks for the good info. You are correct. I got confused when I saw him holding the old strap

  • @RyanKBoman this was 1991, if you didnt know that Lawler kept the AWA belt when Verne Gagne refused to pay him & Jerry Jarrett any proceeds for Super Clash 3, which broke off the super promotion collaboration between the AWA, CWA, WCCW & CWF. He started using the AWA title belt as the USWA title after The Snowman refusing to give the belt back over a pay dispute.

  • @bigpoppanard

OK... good info. I actually forgot about that. I apologize... after 30 years as a fan, my knowledge starts to run together sometimes! Thanks for the clarification.

  • within 15 months Lawler's up north in the WWF

  • Laler you won while bleeding from iron claw flat on your back

  • I was never a big Lawler fan, but considering that he could carry a promo well beyond 5 minutes, he's doing something right (some people have trouble carrying a 2 minute promo).

  • i only know conway because of family guy

  • What's Lawler talking about? Luger was never NWA World Champion. And the NWA didn't just "come along". The NWA has existed since 1948, even his little Memphis promotion was once part of it.

  • @MrNWA4Life He was referring to WCW, which had first dropped NWA branding earlier that year.

  • @MrDavidBix

No duh! But listen again, Lawler doesn't mention WCW by name, he mentions the NWA. And he's wrong.

  • @MrNWA4Life : It's not that he's wrong, he's just probably indifferent... lots of people were still referring to WCW as the NWA... many still called WWE "WWF" for quite a while after their rebranding... Lawler had referred to WCW as NWA for so long, he didn't care if he got their name right... as a company, Lawler's promotion was fighting for their lives...

  • The NWA was supposedly going to have their World Title tournament in Memphis and Lawler was supposedly supposed to win it and then have an NWA/WCW unification match with Luger winning. Would have been interesting, but it got scrapped, and the tournament ended up in Japan with Masa Chono winning the World Title.

  • @MrNWA4Life If I recall correctly, the reason that it was scrapped is because paul heyman allegedly leaked that information to eddie gilbert and WCW suspended him. that was why they took him off of WCW television for a few weeks.

  • Comment removed

  • That's a huge talent lineup.

Thanks for the info. I actually didn't know that about Lawler and Gilbert/Heyman.

  • ha ha they booed Garth Brooks
