I would be willing to bet that the average American car shopper these days shops based on appearance and features at a certain price point. However, comparing a coupe and a cabriolet doesn't make a lot of sense. But, I do appreciate the humor and entertainment value presented here. I'm considering a wide variety of convertibles for the wife with the 135i and G37S near the top of the list.
This is a very bad comparison. For one the buyer in the market for an Infiniti G37 convertible will be cross shopping other hardtop convertibles in this segment like the BMW 3 series convertible, Audi A5 convertible or the Lexus ISC convertible NOT the BMW 1 series convertible. And to make things worse your comparing a coupe and a convertible which is highly irrelevant. The BMW 1 series is the poor mans 3 series, why not compare a viable competitor to the G37 convertible??
@romanmicagearguy Yeah but you guys are stating that the 1 series shares the same buyer as the G37 coupe/convertible which is highly unlikely considering MSRP, Size, & Performance. Nevertheless there is no point in me getting heated over this, the review was funny but as a buyer in this segment this was hardly helpful. I guess I came to this video with different intentions & expectations and vise versa in your case as well. I like both cars nevertheless. Cheers !! =)
@Johncarson9113 Thanks for your comments. We mashup cars as a way to keep the review fun and fresh, but perhaps more importantly we also compare cars that buyers cross shop. Take a look at our RAV4 v Forester review. But to be honest I can actually see myself looking at both of these cars. I know that may sound crazy but I believe that people often don't buy with cars with their heads but with their hearts and this is an example of that kind of buying decision.
Actually....I'm a guy and I'm looking at both cars (along w/ the 3 series BMW) I just test drove the G37IPL and the 1 series vert on the same day. The G37 is really nice but the BMW left me with an ear to ear grin after a spirited test drive that I just did not get on the G37. I also drove the 335is. Most fun? BMW 1 series vert! Don't knock it unless you've driven it.
@UALHVY I dont have to drive a 1 series to know a BMW, I have owned a 2007 BMW 335i, I now have a 2009 Infiniti G37. Both great cars but the BMW although a great handling car feels more anemic and uninspired in terms of standard power and interior quality design. I like the over all, esthetic appeal of the BMW but the luxury factor was far from there especially for its price bracket. The over all driving dynamics of both vehicles are respectable but I feel like I'm left with a gap in the Beemer.
The 1 series drives very differently from the 3 series. If you drive one you will see a difference. The 3 seems heavy....the 1 series is a blast f you drive it hard. I agree with your comment on the "luxury factor." The beemer is less bang for the buck. I still haven't decided.
LOLOLOL I love you guys! Hmm I would have to say BMW Roman. But I wouldn't turn my nose at the Infiniti But if Nathan hits his head and I am 6"1" OUch Ouch! lol I wish Nathan would of showed the engine and then a shot of both exhaust notes. Just sayin
your comparing a convertible rwd coupe to a awd coupe, very smart, why don't you guys compare a diesel with a hybrid, on a serious note, infiniti should ditch the vq37 and turbo the vq25
sorry but its not as good as ur other reviews. why does it have to be a rushed review? pleaaaz go back to ur longer reviews. but u guys r still great!
i thought it was more of a girlie car when i first saw one. as a matter of fact, the ones i see on the roads are driven by girls. roman, 3 series and up is the manly way :-)
@romanmicagearguy its a comparison of a sub-entry level bmw convertible with a entry level all wheel drive infiniti coupe. the 335xi competes with the G37xs and the 335i convertible with the G37s convertible. also, the review is more of a preview because no one actually got around to driving either one.
Last week I drove a G37 IPL followed by a 135i. The G37 was nice and luxurious. It's a beautiful car, inside and out. The 135i vert isn't as nice looking. I took both for fairly extensive drives and anybody that thinks the BMW is a "girl's car" has never driven one. If I had to pick today....I'd choose the BMW. It was a total blast to drive. Just as quick as the IPL and the handling is crisper.
I went to the BMW dealership thinking the same as you. I drove the 3 series....ahh...ok. About the same a s the IPL. Then I drove the 135i convertible. It was a blast. I'm looking for a daily driver to replace my boring Honda Civic. The back seat on the IPL is useless if you are over 5 feet tall.
Anyway....before bad mouthing the 1 series....go drive one...hard. Bet ya change your mind.
I'll take a g37 any day.

if it's decent gas mileage and better, faster straight line performance, the 135i is the car to get...

@Johncarson9113 This is not meant to be an apples to apples comparison...thus the term MASHUP review.

Not a stupid comparison at all. Same price range.

@UALHVY --135i doest compete with G37IPL. If they are in same price range doest mean they are comparable.
