Hey guys, I think I was hit by a micro burst when SBFL lands in Brazil, was FSX real weather update was adjusting the bow for the ILS and the plane suddenly lost all speed and started to fall 16,000 ft /
and boom hit the ground at about 15 miles from the airport.
The Flying Magazine article was unbelievable to read. It gave the second-to-second attitude of the aircraft as indicated by the flight data recorder (later recovered) and during the final moments this L-1011, within a second or two, was changing from 50 degrees pitch up to 40 degrees pitch down to 40 degrees rolling right to 30 degrees rolling left, and on and on until impact. the leftseat pilot was killed instantly when the a/c struck the water tower.
I remember reading an extended article in Flying Magazine, not long after 191 went down, that talked about the fact that the L-1011 was on an approach that was even slower than normal because it was following a small biz jet that (for whatever reason?) had a rather slow approach speed? But I am, now, unable to find anything documented that discusses this element of the crash. I thought it was common to bump approach speeds when wind shear was suspected or known to be in the area?
To all the people posting comments like "no good" ... what video did you watch? Care to back up your opinion? I say it was well done. The recording was included, the landing events were more or less correctly recreated, and the details were attended to. If you're complaining about the frame rate, you're expecting too much. If you're complaining because it's "boring"... why are you here?!
@ActionScripter9109 It was boring and the framerate sucked. If you don't like reading people's shitty opinions what the fuck are you doing looking at Youtube comments?
@bigAl7530 i agree with you in the video it is a tristar (an ugly tristar) and the real one that crashed was a tristar but delta certainly did own DC-10's you should do your reasearch before you say something like that
@LifEndsQuick You are absolutely correct about this video and the accident aircraft. Delta did however operate Douglas DC-10s on two different occasions. Delta's original Lockheed Tristar order was delayed [possibly due to financial troubles at Rolls Royce], so Delta temporarily leased DC-10s from United in the early 1970s. Later, after Delta's 1986-87 acquisition of Western Airlines, several former Western DC-10s were repainted and operated alongside Delta's Tristar fleet for a few years.
Only people who survived were people in the back. You may think its loud, or very inaccessible, or very long to get to the front to exit, but it just might save your life.
I was wondering why I couldn't hear any sound at the begining, soooo I turned my sound up really loud and had my ear phones on..... Well when the sound did come on, I nearly had a heart attack because it made a weird bang sond! Lol!!!!
even though the crash was pilot error with weather factors the pilots are still considered heroes trying to get that plane back up for an emergency landing at Dallas
my delta l1011 graphics suck cuz the paint is all blurry even if it is set on high and it pisses me off the most, and there isn't any instruments for the 2d panel
Dude dont be a jerk really. Ur probalbly not a pilot, you just wanna be cool. Because if you were you would probably say "Cool, flying is a good career"
I get the odds. I understand the chance of being involved in a plane crash are EXTREMELY slim. You must remember though, my odds of dying in a auto accident are also slim, if the plane crashes, my odds of surviving are VERY slim. Also, I feel slying is taking so much away from the trip. Nothing like driving cross country. The people you meet, the landscapes, and how instantly they change.....it's unbeatable. I've flown many times, but only when I have to.
I was in Dallas on business and flying back to Michigan on that day. I heard the plane hit and was able to see some of the smoking wreckage from the terminal. My flight was delayed for hours and left very early in the morning. It was very quiet on that flight home.
That's got to be something you never forget. I always find it fascinating what people remember about such major events. Thanks for sharing your story.
+RIP+ Captain Edward "Ted" Conners, First Officer Rudy Price, Second Officer Nick Nassick and all aboard. I covered the NTSB hearings and the subsequent trial for local PBS station. FO Price was Delta's wind shear expert. Good simulation, very effective.
I personally think the flight crew got a bad rap on this one - typical NTSB nonsense. Yes, they could have declared TOGA at 1500 ft when they saw lightning, but they had no specific warning of any problems. Also, no one else saw this coming either (DFW airport etc). The failure of the FAA to mandate Doppler radar was the real culprit because it left EVERYONE guessing about the severity of weather for years. I think DL191 was just the unlucky plane in this game of roulette.
thats sad...right after they lad so good on the ground..they had to crashed into that thing. i wonder why they didnt scream even though they knew they would die right now.
too bad when you crash you cant make your plaNE GO IN PIECES I MEAN THATL BE EXITING THAN KNOWING THE PLANE WILL BE IN FULL CONDITION AND WILL JUST BE KNOWN AS 'CRASHED'.
actually you can if you have crash damage 2005 installed and select a plane in the aircraft folder and enable it. ive done things before im not proud of. like when i tore the right wing off a 747 by flying it into the sears tower in chicago then flying it halfway accross lake michigan before it crashed.
18 years old, my parents dropped me off at DFW Airport, I watched this happen, I then boarded a plane for Florida. A complete freak out to say the least.
I was 12 years old, my dad was a Lead Mechanic for Delta Airlines at FLL in 1985.

Good video but as mentioned the L10 did not go through the water tank Ala 911. Please fix.

It broke apart BEFORE hitting that tank, go back and do it right... it did not plow in to the tank then blow up, that's not how it happened!
