  • don't steal music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @donkeybird2017 Oh look, an ACTA supporter.

  • I just wanna say that todays youth need more influences like tool was an influence to my generation. Tools main message to me has always been to be a good person, know and understand myself and my surroundings and do right by others. Now a days the social norm for teenagers is a message of self destruction, worthlessness, drug abuse, violence, and sexual devience. I think artists in the mainstream should recognize their impact and embrace their medium to present a message of good not debautery.

  • @Ecrogue agreed man well agreeded

  • This song moves me in a way no other song moves me.

  • it happens to me a lot with tool songs that after even 9 minutes of music i dont feel bored. they just say what they need to say in that song and that takes its time. there are other songs that already finish after 90 sec. but last four minutes or so. they bore me. my brain, that fucker!

  • (A+B)/A=A/B

  • i had a dream.... every single thing in this creation is connected... by the same sequence of patterns... pine needles to flower pedals to our own human fingers.... its all related... by this sacred arrangement.. this is what this song is about.... its mind blowing and it can't be explained until you realize it yourself.

  • @RyaNayR42024 and snow crystals.... look exactly like pine needles... is what i meant...

  • @RyaNayR42024 It makes me wonder

  • @DeathrashWhiplash haha, like that Led Zepplin song stairway to heaven, ooooh and it makes me wonder.

  • @RyaNayR42024 what?

  • @kinglethal22 either you smoke crack i u dare derive meaning from this song?

  • @kinglethal22 Meaning is easy from this song. A spiral. That's what the song is about. The entire time signature/ lyrical pattern is based on a Fibonacci spiral. A song entirely based on set patterns about over-analyzing something to find a pattern. It's 'A Scanner Darkly' the song.

  • @RyaNayR42024 its true that the fibonacci sequence occurs in nature and dictates the way tree stumps and where branches grow, so it is explainable

  • i love this song so much.... love the end: reaching up and reaching out i'm reaching for the random or whatever will bewilder me whatever will bewilder me following my will and wind we may just go where no ones been ride the spiral to the end we may just go where no ones been

p.s its called A girthy attitude and its on my page :)

  • fibonacci !!

  • We had the lyrics to this song put on my uncle's headstone. He loved this song, it has such powerful lyrics..

  • @teamrango Here's to hoping your uncle is riding that spiral....into the infinite possibiliites...

Best comment I've ever seen on a Tool video by the way.

  • @teamrango i'm gonna have it put on mine too... or at least one of the tool song, though this is for sure once of my favs.

  • Most of the "guitar" you hear is actually bass. Pretty gnarly.

  • Are there any nice live DVD´s from tool? I can't find any proper live video's on the web and I'd like to have that so if anybody knows I'd love to find out

  • @apendansen tool doesn't do live DVD's. unfortunate i know, but that's tool.

  • this song is like going to church for me.

  • @EnTeReGoHeRe999 Amen Brother

  • @ExoDyn technically Sister :P

  • Damn, Tool isn't just a band, it's a spiritual experience

  • epic win 0:00 to 9:25, and epic logo fail 4:55 to 9:25

  • a true tool fan pays for the music. get all the albums rather than download them. you'll be more satisfied that way. especially the art that comes with each album.

    just saying.

Spiral out, and keep going brothers and sisters.

  • @MrStavi1990 And also, don't watch videos of dipshits like this guy WHO IS MAKING MONEY OFF OF TOOLS MUSIC FOR NO GOOD REASON EXCEPT TO CASH IN. TOOL IS ART. YOU'VE MONETIZED ART. YOU DEGRADE ART. IT'S FUCKING DISGUSTING TO DO THIS TO THIS SONG. THIS TYPE OF ACTION IS WHY MUSIC IS SHIT THESE DAYS. IT'S ABOUT MONEY, NOT ART. FUCKING DISSAPPOINTING HOLY SHIT.

  • the album art (meaning the little booklet inside) is amazing.

  • REACHING OUT TO EMBRACE WHATEVER MAY COME!

  • i felt this before.. long time ago... universal consciousness ...with liquid acid dripping from my elbows. mathmatical equations...musical notes...magikal spells...faithful fall to their knees.

  • This is as close to perfection you will get.

  • i liked the format it was really helpfull thanks man ;-)

  • listen to sober and in a constant stream listen to this one sounds like one really amazing but long song

  • the song, the lyrics, and how it all comes together, its fuckin awesome . i think tool are the only band on earth to make something as perfect as this song .

  • "Feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside & weep like a widow

to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty,

    to bathe in the fountain,

    to swing on the spiral,

    to swing on the spiral,

to swing on the spiral of our divinity & still be a human". -MJK talking about what you guys commonly refer to as God.

  • @b3njamin0912

    1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 8, 5, 3...

  • Best lyrics in a song that I've ever heard 7:20, nuff said.

  • okay dude talking about fans... you wasted your time saying something that no one cares about... you either love tool or you dont so shut up about the fans and listen to the song lol

  • I love tool but i hate the fans. Either their idiots that just say things like "fuck yeah tool" without understanding the thought it takes to create these songs or they think their a deep and intelligent person. Theirs barely any people in the grey area where theirs sense and disregard for Maynards reputation. It's rediculous.

  • lmao yeah man, and they almost always have spelling or grammar errors in their writing xD

  • lol.

  • @MoneyShotsClothing I like how you try to call people out and talk down to these "idiots" when you completely have no sense of grammar or punctuation. Use They're instead of their and There's instead of Theirs. They are called contractions. Use them...you'll sound more educated and less of a dumbass. Now stfu and just listen to the music

  • yeah grammar has nothing to do with my point. so.. life... get one.

  • @MoneyShotsClothing It has everything to do with your point, you call people idiots when you are yourself one.

  • I'm an idiot because I'm not anal about my grammar; and again has nothing to do with my point.

  • @MoneyShotsClothing its crazy to imagine but when you use proper grammar people actually take you more seriously..ah, scary thought isn't it?! You ever heard of a thing called a book? Authors have people called editors proofread these little bundles of joy so the readers will take them and their subject seriously.

  • last time i checked this is the internet; not a book, and people tend to be a little more.. "free" with their grammar on the internet.

  • @MoneyShotsClothing Duuuude, you can't even spell 'ridiculous'. You have a kind of sick desperation in your message. You really do thing you're special don't you?

  • Again. People thinking thinking they're better than me because I'm not anal about my grammar. Stupid-- really is.

  • @MoneyShotsClothing Kid, you're not speacial, you're not cool. Whatever you tryed to state above, I don't understand. put the cock back in your mouth and get back in formation. You fail on so many levels.

p.s. If you want people to take you seriously in this world.. take a fucking english class you boner.

  • wow. that put me in place didn't it. idiot..

  • They're not being anal, they're being correct. you're just being lazy. sorry

  • dont let what their saying get two you. LOL

  • lol.

  • You know what would be stupid?

Me telling you that your stupid for calling someone stupid for using good grammar because your to stupid to know that if you don't even use your spell check when its apparent that you are spelling something wrong that no one will understand you and think that your stupid.

  • omg.. still with this. just listen to the fucking song.

  • @Bonegeras Well....You should learn the difference between 'your' and 'you're'!

  • an excellent compisition of true art hypnotic and enlightining a useful tool..

  • did you know this song has alot of the fibonacci sequence in it? lol.

  • No... but that rly cool. 11235813 :]

  • 9 minutes of awesome!

  • Awesomess ;)

  • that sliding bass toward the end...

  • my all time favorite song................

  • @MsHosehead

This is the greatest song ever made.

  • listen to dis while doing homework

  • I always used to listen to the Lateralus album while doing homework. One of the few albums that I could really do that with.

  • When I was in college, I used to blast the Lateralus album while I wrote papers.

  • hell yeah dood, this is one of the deepest albums ever made. really makes you think about stuff

  • haha I do that too!!!

  • @finalfantasyLP you listen while bending over so the horned wolverine can insert his scaly penis, but im about to be in ur possition too :(

  • @fward101 are you a porn star?

  • @wolfhead09 no......i stole something from bill hicks

  • @finalfantasyLP i do that all the time it's fun :)

  • @finalfantasyLP haha i was when i read this

  • @finalfantasyLP not "di" english ones

  • @finalfantasyLP Makes you wanna scream at the teachers :)

  • tool is totally awesome..! i found them awhile back and i think they rock pretty hard despite being a little bit of a joke to dave matthews band fanboys or whatever that fight is..... haha

    .

    ROCK ON TOOL!!!!

  • I love the verse that starts out

With my feet upon the ground I move myself between the sounds.

that high pitched followed by a low pitched followed by a high pitched noise is so amazingly cool it mezmerizes me

  • that noise? are you talking about the bass? because it goes from a high note to a low note back to a high note and on and on......I love that part too. Justin chancellor is a more than talented bassist.

  • songs like this are easy to just play, but you gotta feel the music

  • try to drum it. then say again it's easy :p

  • Counting between pauses, the syllables in Maynard's vocals during the verses form the first few Fibonacci numbers, ascending and descending.

Additionally, maynard begins singing at 1:37 into the song. 1 minute 37 seconds, or 97 seconds, is approximately 1.618 of a full minute. This happens to be the golden ratio, which is closely related to the Fibonacci sequence

  • I once listened to tool a ton. I loved 46&2 and the aenima album. I really connected with all their music, because of the melodies, except not as much this particular album. Now 14 yrs. after first loving them, then not listening, Im drawn back to this album for the lyrics in my discovery of sacred geometry. Im just learning. Fascinating so far.....

  • @yellowbanana....

damn man, you spent too much time super analyzing that.... but hey, if it helps, the matrix trilogy had each third begin and end with ascending notes as compared to the score on the previous movie....

i hope that made sense.... huh?

  • my friend can play the intro on his guitar

  • i can ply the hole song with no mesakes iv played alittle over a year now

  • Can you spell with no mesakes?

  • my keyboard fucks up some simes i have to press 2 times on the board but aperently you cant spell eather

  • u fail...

  • you failed

  • I have to say I think it's alot more than just feeling the rhythm. Losing yourself in the beauty of the moment is definitely a part of the feeling the rhythm and in that you're right it is about the "feeling the rhythm" but it's also quite about it about fathoming the power and bathing in the fountain wouldn't you think it's a statement to live your life with feeling and passion

  • Right on! To me this song is about celebration of life.

    Awesome tune.

  • Comment removed

  • Over thinking, Over analyzing.

They knew people would try so desperately to interpret this song as some like prophetic message to the meaning of life.

It's simply Danny, Justin, Maynard, and Adam feeling the rhythm, nothing more.

  • It's everything you interpret it to be and that which you did not.

  • abd the words just happen to fallow the fibonacci sequence hmmmmmm

  • Yes, and?

  • well, its about what your saying, the universe spiraling, and for some odd reason it follws fibanocci

  • me and my dad freakin love this band, im getting a tatoo of the lateralus symbol on my shoulder in a month. TOOL=BEAST

  • did you get the tat? You should post a pic

  • its crazy to hear all of you talk about how you have been listening to them for 2 years now and so forth. I saw them first in 1994 in a 1000 capacity club in Nashville. this makes me feel old, But its cool younger kids are listening to something decent.

  • just sit back and enjoy the ride people. JEEZ-US!

  • This is a song I don't think anyone can interpret to its full extent. I do agree, however, that it is about feeling and exploring the supernatures of life. It is easily one of Tool's best musical experiences (who can really go ahead and call it a song?). It has so many layers, through its musical complexity and concepts.

and i mean yeah its based off the Fibonacci Secuence, but it mean sonething totally different. listening to it was a truely phenomenal experience. and understanding it as well

  • i dont think tool fans are idiots, like dude below says. i think they are a great band, and it shouldn't be delved into that much. like it or not, then move on.

  • If there "shit" why did you comment on this video, number 2 you obviously don't get the point of the song everything about this song is based on the Fibonacci sequence: time signiture, syllables and lyrics.

  • hey yon45no834n7o if you really listened to the music you would see that this has a lot of meaning to most people. but the dicks like you cant see out of your own asshole yet hear the music from inside of there.

  • listen to me you little piece of shit, i listen to alot of tool. and maynards "shitty" songs helped me forget about any problems i may have in a nondistructive way, so before you open your mouth and say this is shitty, to some it therapeutic and those people will be on your ass too so i seggest that you just shut the fuck up and under stand that all of these songs have meaning and if you pulled your head out of your ass long enough you may just notice.

  • This is about human beings who discover they possess supernatural abilities and continue to live mortal in harmony with the Earth.

  • its about taking inspiration from the fibonacci sequence.

  • no you can't get any TOOL on i tunes!!!

  • that's cuz TOOL is way to sophisticated, creative and intellectually amazing to be on such an unworthy petty site such as the itunes store.

TOOL has many times pryed open my third eye.

  • wow, very well put

  • i wouldnt come on that strong.. their way beyong amazing, but everything you just put was a little pushing it if i can say that.

  • can you buy this song on itunes?

  • If you rly want some pm me. I'll show some ways to get them ^_-

  • @5ty1 how?

  • I'm a total music pirate, so don't think I'm being preachy, but you should buy this album. It is something worth purchasing. It is something worth owning. I am comforted knowing that should some super virus wipe out my pc, my mp3 player, and every server all over the Internet, that I would have Lateralus in my possession.

  • @rSkiles92 You could get it for free.

  • your version is the loudest yet i dont know what you did but thank you motha

  • the angels split the races in to four, the color wheel of my race is red white yellow black, ( dakota indian) the rest are creeds like mussliums are springs of living water, the spirit of man is the spiral [[[[[[[[[[[[[[open]]]]]]]

  • what a.................. f#nk!ng song!!!!!!

  • o hellyea sadskate crew, i made that part my ringtone, its sick

  • 7:20

  • Swing on the spiral... I knowed two nights later and then separate the body from the mind...Its funny now that I read the lyrics I understand what they wanted to say...

  • lol i started listening to them in 7th grade ish now im 8th lol but they still rock

  • been listening to tool since 9th grade

    14 years old

    im 19 now

never got tired of this album

i could listen to it 24/7 and never get tired of this album ever

  • where are the lyrics?

  • What? O_O Right there --->

    Click "more info"

  • ...and Rush

  • you should really check out Oceansize! you'd love them. do it! right now!

  • thanks for the lyrics, tool is the most sophisticated rockband next to the mars volta

  • the mars volta are ok.... but i don't really think they are on Tool's level.

They're one of those bands that you know have potential but haven't reached it yet. They're sound is good but their lyrical depth can't touch Tool's in terms of global/spiritual significance.

  • mars volta are incredibly talented... mostly musically but also lyrically..... but nobody i repeat nobody will ever get to maynards level. I've loved tool for over 2 years and i still learn new stuff about them
