i do this with my dog (staffy x beagle) as far as he knows theres this red dot that appears every now and then but can never catch it, being a beagle he tries to sniff it out when the dots gone, its pretty funny, gives him something interesting to do for a while

They say laser pointers are cruel for cats, there is nothing for them to actualy catch which stresses them out. I got one for my cat and got rid of it although he was smart enough to figure out it came from the laser pointer itself and not from me. I hide it in a drawer and he sits by it till I get it. I think it makes them loopy dont bother buying one is are thinking about it. IMHO
