Yes, there's no emotion and is very scratchy, but this is still very impressive for his age. Paganini's violin concertos contain almost any technicality you can think of. I've been playing for 7 years and it's taking a while for me to learn this. He hasn't even had seven years in his life.
I don't understand how any of you people could think of this as a prodigy.. He sounds terrible, and none of you would listen past the first few bars if it was ANYONE else ANY older. Yay, he can scratch out what might be the last movement of a Paganini concerto.. AND??!!?!? You all, and definitely this, are what's ruining music today. Technical prowess means NOTHING if it's not musical or meaningful. Plus, he sounds like shit.
he's not bach or anything like that, but he still has great talent for being only seven years old. There are incredible players in their teenage years who have techincal issues with this song and even though out of tune, he still manages to play most of it in recognition. He still has 60+ years of life left. Imagine where he would be in just 10 years.
@eplooms i agree. im not a professional violinist....yet, but i do know that you NEED to play with emotions in order for it to be a decent performance.
had to be of Japanese descent impressive interpretation of Ryu Goto, in my country there is a cultural program that begins with this theme of paganini.thanks for sharing your video
@Flaminggential And what isn't fun about playing violin so masterfully in front of a huge audience? I would of loved to be able to do this when I was 7!
@puddingpimp well..my point being ..childhood should be a time kids play ndo other things not be disciplined to practicing like 8 hrs a day perform at 7..but it's truly remarkable
Wow, go Ryu! To all the naysayers, I've been playing violin for the last 8 years, and sure the sound is a bit kid-ish, but the musicality is superior to anything I can do, even now, which is mildly depressing, but still, awesome.
I'm sorry you don't let a 7 year old kid play this piece in front of people unless it's completely mastered. I know Mr. Goto he is a beast now. But he knows that he shouldn't have been performing this at that tender age.
Others would say that it's good experience and practice to perform at a young age. Best to overcome stage fright and figure out what to work on in the practice room. Of course, developing a mindset necessary to perform an entire piece without apprehension or fear can only be tamed through constant exposure to a live audience.
I just saw this performance too (Sunday). I agree—he was really amazing. And to think that he has been playing the piece since age of seven, that's crazy good!
HOLY CRACKERS AND CHEESE!!!! i didn't realize he was this good! he's so amazing...like a mozart of the violin....by that i mean starting to play in huge concert halls at a young age...don't think he's been hired by a prince tho....has he?! jokes.
I really, really wanna pinch his cheeks! They're so puffy and puffier since it's resting on his violin. But look at him now, he's grown up to be so handsome and no more baby fats. ^^
it is because it is easier for a person with shorter arms to reach all four strings comfortably with a center chin rest, or to simply rest your chin further yet to the right of the rest.
try pointing your left elbow toward your right hip, while pointing your left pinky toward your left shoulder. maintaining the bend in your left arm, and still pointing your pinky at your left shoulder, point your left elbow toward your left hip. this is what the difference feels like, roughly.
Critics of this sort of training should hear this young man play now; and he clearly loves it. Neurological studies show that this the age when the left side of the brain at a stage that can actually grow and genius can be born. I wish I had this sort of import placed on my playing THIS EARLY in life. I think he was very blessed and a lucky kid!
This is unfortunately what much of modern violin playing has devolved to. Anyone who has been to the Aspen Music Festival and seen 8 year olds picked to win the concerto competition over mature graduate students knows what I'm talking about. This is actually kind of disgusting. It becomes less amazing when you are in a practice room and you are constantly interrupted by parents dragging their little "prodigies" around asking when you're going to be done practicing so they can have your room.
Age is never the point, it's the amount of hardwork put in the person, besides, the younger the people are, it just tells you that they can take in the practice. Its completely stereotype to ask when someone espicially your parents when they will finish with practice. In fact, i'm sure that parents would encourage their child to play more than to stop.
This is simply bad. who cares if he's 6-7 years old? This is rabish. He smiply doesen't have the tecnique and the violin to play this peace. He even skipped the double flageolett part. This guy should play vivaldi or Viotti concerts but surely not Paganini with an orchester.
This is simply good. And its not because of the music, but because of the discipline that a 7 years old kid needs to have in order to learn and play a piece composed for solists.
Of course its not perfect by the time the fingers of the kids are not flexible and worked out enough (he is 7 !) but think that he plays maximum 2-3 years.Even if u start up violin in a mature age u wont play this in 3 years even in this "bad"(as you call it) way. Most kids can not even coordinate left and right hand!!!
Agreed! And listen to him NOW! There is a video of him playing a marvelous "Tzigane"! He grew up to play beautifully! This method worked very well for him! Time well spent for this little boy!
You can be ironic, but this guy sucks big anyway. Furthermore, before being such a jerk learn hungarian, italian, german and spanish (I speak them all). Learn also to play violin (I played the Brahms, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Bruch concerts) And if you make it (sincerly I have serious doubts about it) maybe, I repeat maybe I will accept your advices. But beore this I suggest you not to be a jerk. Just listen to this young "genius" and have fun:)
You're simply bad, you asshole. "rabish. He smiply doesen't have the tecnique and the violin to play this peace." Well, first of all, your grammar sucks. It's "rubbish", not "rabish"...second, you can't even spell "simply", "doesn't", or "technique" right. How could a pessimist like you possibly beat Ryu Goto?
He is skipping the double harmonics. I mean this would be a great parlour trick to see a kid hack his way through the last movement of the 1st Paganini concerto. But this belongs at a party and not on the concert stage. Much Love Ryu, I'm sure you kick ass at it now.
