This to me seems to be a more relaxing news theme (bill bailey and his orchestra covered this piece for his dvd and it is superb. He compared it to the birtish news up until 1982 where it has a similar jolly rheteric. Then we went all doomonger and apocolyptica with our boombastic themes suggesting gravitas.

I hate how they've butchered up and broken apart William's brilliant theme through the years with all kinds of electric guitar solos and techno beats. This is the best news theme ever written, and they never use it properly!

That is the most brilliant piece I've ever heard! It is a shame that the seven network in Australia modified it so much cause it's just so beautiful the way it is written. In Australia the seven network did little copy cats with there partner, NBC in America and now use the tune, but its good they did cause it makes my day when the news comes on.

I can't say that I've ever heard it, but it is my belief that a composer shouldn't have to be subsurvient to a television network. Most people don't even know that John Williams is responsible for that NBC fanfare. And plus, with all due respect, it's just the news, not that amazing.

the news is an entertainment medium jsut like and other broadcast show, they all use themes to draw an audience. Non of the shows are amazing, the MUSIC IS! and NBC is probably the least of the EVILS where news programs are concerned, anyone ever hear of FOX NEWS!

wrong version? this is great, some guy posted a short cell phone clip of willians conducting at the hollywood bowl, about 15 seconds, now that was the wrong version. I'd like to see the version NBC uses with views of NYC...

The french horns in this sound so majestic...especially noticable as the music tails off at the start of the Today show. Very nice work Jared!
