There're plenty of time signatures changes, but it's a mistake to think that there are any far-flung rhythmic concepts worthy of an irrational signature here. There aren't complex cross rhythms either, you could arrange all the notes on a grid of 16ths and it'd mostly line up. It's like saying a 4/4 piece is in 128/128 for no reason... pretentious over-complications are easy to spot, and very annoying.
the simplest way is not always the right way. 6/8 and 3/4 are very different feels.. each one populates a technically different occupation. that said, calling something 8/4 time is stupid because that is just 2 bars of 4/4. However, 8/8 time could have a much more obvious eighth note pulse so 8/8 might be different then 4/4. nonetheless, 4/5 obviously does not exist. the only numbers ive ever seen on the bottom would be 2 (rarely) 4 8 and 16.. .

haha the ironic thing is they use a 4/4 base for everything, so though Meshuggah is an extremely technical band, they would not really be associated with time signatures such as 4/5. They're not gonna stray from a 4 base. So they may use 23/16, or 13/8, etc, but it'll keep a 4 base.
I think technically meshuggah actually uses polymeters. I may be wrong, but here's the way I view it: Polyrhythm is playing to rhythmic values on top of eachother (i.e. triplet and sixteenths played together, or quintuplets and eights), where as polymeters consists of using multiple time signatures on top of eachother (i.e. guitar plays 23/16 while drums play 4/4). I may be wrong, that's just the way I interpret two terms I've heard. Feel free to call me out If I'm wrong :P
the drums arnt in 4/4. only thing in 4/4 is hit hat or whatever hes ridding on, snare and feet are in completely different times. along with the guitars.

i was more concerned in the definition of semibreve. it turns out it just means whole note. I understand the rest, exponential growth on two being the common divisions. and yes, almost all the examples past 8 go unused. i know how time signatures work, your language was my main confusion.

4/5 is possible its part of the Irrational Time Signature family to quote a wikipedia entry: "one beat in 4/5 is written as a normal quarter note, four quarter notes complete the bar, but the whole bar lasts only 4/5 of a reference whole note, and a beat 1/5 of one (or 4/5 of a normal quarter note). This is notated in exactly the same way that one would write if one were writing the first four quarter notes of five quintuplet quarter notes." I'd assume it's more of a 20th century modernism thing

Its quintuplets guys.
That basically means that the hats and cymbols etc are 4/4 whilst the kicks and other drum fills are played at 5/5.
I like the quintuplets, bot something I am capable of myself, I would just naturally find myself doing triplets instead.
Really good drummer, should session for big bands.

You obviously have no understanding of musical theory. 4/5 is a possible meter. The five on the bottom makes it so that the rhythm would follow a pattern of fifthtuplets (like triplets but with 5 beats). I would give props to any band that has the ability to write in a 4/5 signature. Suck it.

haha the ironic thing is they use a 4/4 base for everything, so though Meshuggah is an extremely technical band, they would not really be associated with time signatures such as 4/5. They're not gonna stray from a 4 base. So they may use 23/16, or 13/8, etc, but it'll keep a 4 base.

I think technically meshuggah actually uses polymeters. I may be wrong, but here's the way I view it: Polyrhythm is playing to rhythmic values on top of eachother (i.e. triplet and sixteenths played together, or quintuplets and eights), where as polymeters consists of using multiple time signatures on top of eachother (i.e. guitar plays 23/16 while drums play 4/4). I may be wrong, that's just the way I interpret two terms I've heard. Feel free to call me out If I'm wrong :P

the drums arnt in 4/4. only thing in 4/4 is hit hat or whatever hes ridding on, snare and feet are in completely different times. along with the guitars.

But still, one thing (hats and snare) playing in 4/4, and the other thing (gtr/bass/kick) playing 23/16... isn't that a polymeter? because it's all sixteenth notes, just different Time sigs. I see polyrhythm as different rhythmic values (i.e. hats/snare playing triplets, bass drum playing sixteenths), where as this is two overlying meters. I dunno, this is just how I view things. Is this correct?

only hithat/crash/china is in 4/4 and snare/kick is usally in something like 23/16 or something like that along with guitars. i dont think he plays much polymeters its mostly polyrhythms

yea that's true. Sometimes the snare follows the guitar/kick (TMLWYB), but sometimes it actually just follows the 4/4 cybmals (bleed). What's your interpretation of the difference between polyrhythm and polymeter?
