@MONSTER6956 yeah, i got a 360 (actually a 360 laptop look at my channel) but i have never got round to buying kinect. i probably wouldnt play games with it, i would just use it on the pc and dostuff like in this vid!
BTW: If you want to discuss this video, or ask questions about it, please do so at the original video's comment page. This is just a copy that some dude re-uploaded. If you post a comment here, I won't see it.
Amazing - this replicates the basic functionality of a $100,000+ vision system or CMM that's used in advanced quality assurance applications. You might want to see if you can integrate it with Solid Works somehow. Define the reference geometry of a part or assembly using Solid Works and then use your Kinect system to compare actual geometry with the Solid Works geometry. You'll make millions if you can figure out how to do this and sell it to a CAD company!
i was wondering why you didnt have to measure each side two times... when you mark the edges where does your system know in which depth the point is ?!?
@noxon0 It's called a ruler, too. That's the main name. Yard stick is just more specific. Please, don't go around confusing people. Thank you, come again.
@Schockoschnitte This guys knows 3D capturing, in the case of the Kinect, the two cameras are able to produce a partical 3d image. Look up 3D scanning and you will know how he does this.
I love the David scanner because it produces Top quality images at the lowest price. The Nextengine 3D scanners works like the Kinect, and is an easy to use 3D scanner
Could you create a 2D or 3D whiteboard affect, similar to Johny Chung Lee's Wii Remote Interactive white board? Just track the tip of your finger and start creating 3D spheres wherever to goes... PRESTO wirting in air. You should bring this work to TED. The potential applications are amazing.
they use 2 cameras to determine distance (i think). the angle that the cameras turn to center an object defines how far the object is, thus being able to tell the exact size of the object.
I have the kinect running (using libfreenect ). I would like to know if it is possible to get the RGB-D registration code you are running in this video.
Kinect knows the focal length of its camera and the distance to the object. Both pieces of information can be used to extrapolate the object dimensions based on how large it appears to the camera.
cool man. l love it. i try to measure object over 2d image but i could not success yet.

Wow. So would it be possible to reconstruct the whole room (no black areas) by using 2 or more kinect-cameras? That would be really cool.
