RT is a propaganda outlet for Putin, but calling Assange a sellout for appearing on it doesn't make sense. He's always maintained that it's role for getting information out there is critically important, I'd imagine he's eager for any outlet he can get in the media. It'd be classic if he got on there and blasted Putin, RT would just black it out if he did though.
I really don't have as much of a problem with Putin as most people, I see him as a dangerous despotic psychopath with good intentions
Assange probably just wants to drum up support for wikileaks and get the word out, RT will stab him in the back and throw him under the bus without second thought if it suits their agenda, they're scum.
The FOX News of Russia is always trying to pander to and hijack Anons by pretending to be sympathetic to whistleblowers and freedom of information issues. They're actually rather subversive, like with Adam Kokesh and his paid goon squad of bad actors and wannabe thugs, or the infowars garbage.
Their agenda is pretty much anything that undermines western cohesion or supremacy is good, anything that promotes western cohesion or dominance is bad, they'll betray what they support for that agenda.
@lernoschwoejn LOL they always lie, in fact, when the FDA finally got the legal authority to recall unsafe/contaminated foods without negotiating with private corporations, Russia Today spun that as a Monsanto power grab. Guess who spent the most money lobbying against it and spent even more lobbying to gut the FDA after and make the law unenforceable? Monsanto, they hated the bill.
You know why RT spun it that way? Because it was good for the United States, and thus bad for them
Yeah RT is suchh crap.. all they do is pander to the conspiracy theorists so they can make money and influence them with disinformation.. yeah they seem like they are legit with some shows like the Keiser Report.. but still.. in place of objective journalism you just get the constant drone of anti-american hatred and conspiracy fear-mongering.. this just makes 'them' stronger..
The US gov't will just block Russia Today from being broadcasted or accessed in the US. If the DoJ shut down megaupload WITHOUT SOPA/PIPA passing, I can imagine they still could easily block our access to Russia Today b/c Assange is as they say "a threat to America". And this is why the government approval rating is at just 6%.
That’s a damn shame. It’s very disappointing to hear that Julian Assange will be be tied down to a single network instead of remaing independent; especially a network as disgraceful as RT. RT is just as unreliable as FOX news.
To assume that RT (& any other news source MRN included) is completely unbiased is a little naive. It's up to the individual to research and correlate info. RT however (excluding Russian nation affairs) is comparatively much more reputable than most MSM sources.
we'll see how it plays out i guess. i dont think it will make any great waves. assange is not wikileaks. wikileaks is dead anyway. we just need some other people to pick up the template and do it right, without all the cult of personality shit.
I think all the cult personality shit was a hype built by media to discredit him. Its a common practice, instead of attacking his views and the evidence he leaked, they make it all about his character. Even if he did sexually assault them 2 ladies it shouldn't take anything away from the message he gave.
@SwitzGamer i agree. but chosing to be the lone figurehead of such an organisation was a bad move. it was not democratic. the theme of WL should be shared, not given over to the same old icon worship that damages so many potential movements.
There are no commercials on RT. I can't believe you don't watch it, and aren't already aware of that. RT is one of the few media organizations I trust. There are program breaks, which are filled with promos for other RT programming. I know that RT is broadcast on some American cable networks. I'd assume they'd keep their current advertisers.
Be familiar with propaganda techniques so you spot it next time they're used to discredit someone like Assange. Claims with no backing.
From Wikipedia:
Transfer is a technique used in propaganda and advertising. Also known as association, this is a technique of projecting positive or negative qualities (praise or blame) of a person, entity, object, or value (an individual, group, organization, nation, patriotism, etc.) to another in order to make the second more acceptable or to discredit it.
RT hired Adam a libertarian to host a show way before the Russian election. No it wasn't to better Putin's image. These sorts of lame attempts to figure out why RT is doing something is pure spin with an intent in damaging Assange image by negative association. I believe this propaganda technique is simply called transfer. Instead of propaganda techniques provide evidence for the accusations.
As far as i am aware......it isnt actually funded by the kremlin.......also.....whats with using....."Funded by the kremlin".....it does make much sense beyond.......well i dont know ....as far as i am aware the Kremlin isnt actually the capital seat of the russian federation...if it were then it might more sense.....but it still really doeesnt make much sense......is the capital wholly the centre of power....? significantly but not that much...
How he heck do they tie Putin to Assange having his own show? It was RT that allowed a libertarian to have his own show until an incident occurred over the Ron Paul election last year.
This is spin & propaganda by those who hate Russia. Was Putin trying to look good when Adam had his own libertarian show on RT? These people are counting on people to be stupid.
If we didn't have this 'us vs them' hangover, this would be universally interesting, and seen as a good thing.
Julian is making use of whatever outlet is available, to continue to provide the planet with information not available elsewhere. And to try to pay his bills and survive - something that has become more difficult, because of those he has embarrassed, the power structure that has been threatened.
RussiaToday is the populist embodiment of media. Always agitating against "the mainstream", and doing everything opposite of the US and "mainstream media", and doing everything to please their conspiracy anti-semitic followers.
Who the fuck are you anyway, shitface?

RT is not a for-profit channel. It is advertisement-free, and is listed as a Non Profit Organization, funded by Russian taxpayers.
