Correction: I'm a keyboard player and I still own one of the original keyboards from the song. The bass line,main melody and sweeping jet tones were from a Roland JX3P using the PG2000 module on the top right hand side of keyboard. The bridge towards the end with the Marimba style tone was from the DX7, I owned a DX7 back in the 80's as well.

I'm trying not to be a nerd, but I'm going to fail miserably...I think the Roland D50 wasn't out then (JM-JARRE used the bulk of it in 1988 for Revolutions). I'm trying to make out if that's the DX7, Jupiter 8, Roland JX3P, and Linn Drum??

You're absolutely right the Roland D50 was not out when this movie was made.

I just made the exact comment. I own a JX3P and it is definitely the Synth used in Axel F and he also uses the Yamaha DX7 as well.

The JX3P was also used by the Eurythmics when they did Sweet Dreams and also Vangelis used it when recording the soundtrack to Chariots of fire.
