this is such an awsome looking litterbox... i went to their website to price it... are you serious, $180? Clevercat does the same thing for $30... tho it doesn't have its own liner, but other than that its the same thing..
First I'd like to say this is a cute idea. My litter boxes are in the basement, so style is not an issue.
@madruki a LOT of people use covered boxes without issues of stalking cats. We have three of them and they work just fine. An open tray is completely unnecessary and messy from my experience. I've had cats my whole life.
@nottotouchthearth who uses plastic liners? Why would you waste your money on those? They're excessive and pointless and end up with holes in them from the cats. :/
This looks so nice that I finally decided to give-in and order the thing, but when I saw that it would be $208 (once I got finished with shipping/taxes) I changed my mind. I then saw elsewhere that people mentioned a very similar box (though not as attractive) called the CleverCat litterbox. It too has a hole in the top, but it only comes in white. So I wrote CleverCat suggesting they offer other colors to accommodate people like me who care about color options, but refuse to pay ModKat price.
@yippee1999 I have used Clever Cat for years because I had a dog that used to eat cat poo like candy so that design totally prevented his from doing that. Plus. the Clever Cat takes up less space when I was living in an apartment and had a cat that like to kick litter everwhere. I;m sure you can paint the thing because Lowe's and Home Depot sell paints for plastic in lots of colors (such as for outdoor plstic furniture).
i got my box a few weeks ago and love it! it looks amazing in my apt, it blends in and is great quality-better than i expected. i don't understand comparing it to old ones since those have to be hidden. my cats love it too-right away they've used it like it's nothing new; they checked it out a little at first, then went right in and happily used it ever since! there's also much less litter on the floor now, and i never need to use those nonbiodegradable plastic liners anymore when cleaning it.

first off, 18 lbs is not a healthy cat, im sure you love the cat, but you are over feeding. also, lets think about this, not every product fits every persons lifestyle. is a topless car perfect for everyone no of course not, but for some its a great fit, for me, this product has saved clean up time while letting me use a reusable liner and fits my sensibilities.
18lbs is actually about average for a Siberian Forest Cat, going by the breed standard. It doesn't note a specific weight but simply states they should feel a "substantial weight" for the cat. These cats have larger bones and frames, they are not like a domestic shorthair who should max out around 8-11lbs. Maine Coons average 20lbs. Stating that no cat should weigh 18lbs is simply not true. It would be like calling a woman fat because she weighs 150lbs.....but she's 6.4".

as for cutting a hole in a tupperware box, i'd imagine that's pretty gnarly looking. not to be insulting, but you obviously must live in the midwest somewhere. don't you have any concern for smell, looks, mess, or convencience? pretty embarressing if you ask me. have some taste!
Pretty inconsiderate not to think about size accommodations for a larger cat. And you can in fact cut rubbermaid or tupperware boxes neatly, imagine that! Any box will smell if you don't clean it, there is NO difference in the plastic between a Tupperware box (which is made to hold food and not absorb it, which would harbor bacteria) and litterbox plastic.
See, this is what bothers me about the people who design litterboxes...they never actually test it out on ALL sizes of cats...my cats would ever fit in there.
What a great solution - we just got ours, and our kitty loves using it, and we love not having litter all over the place! Also, it's a much more environmentally responsible solution to the problem of kitty litter!
I just made one like this with a rubbermaid storage bin. I just made a whole on the lid and you are good to go. if your cat is too heavy get a lid that can hold him or something. It works miracle with my cat.
Modkat is awesome but way to expensive for a litterl

maybe we can hide the cats food in there so we dont have to see it all the time?? modkat can be the cat toilet & food dispenser - 2 for the price of one! great idea
No, there is nothing to eat inside... this is my cat and she uses it daily along with my other bigger cat, can't you hear all the scratching? Cat's don't scratch food.
Pas très pratique pour le chat :(

It's nice, but my 15yo cay can't even climb over the sides of a tall-ish open box. She could never get in, or back out!, of that thing.

Maine Coons, Norweigian Forest Cats and Siberian Forest Cats all get at least that big without being fat. =^.^=

@spentarts That's a Siberian, 18 pounds is normal.

Looks similar to my $5 rubber maid box that I cut a hole in the top and is much bigger to accommodate my 15 lb cat.

I don't see where the $180 went... looks like about $4 worth of plastic.

Must be awkward for a cat. I don't think this box is big enough to accommodate my 18lb male cat. Great looking though

I really love the design. Hopefully it prevents tracking of the litter. However, I don't think this will accomodate my 24lb cat!

was there something to eat inside it? because she is licking her cheeks.

yes, but there is a reason you LOVE this one, design, quality, and concept. Much different than the competition.
rdubstudios 2 years ago 2
i love this thing, but 180 bucks is ridiculous! The competition on this idea is only 30!
