dont you think it SHOULD get a powerful powertrain like the others ? that 3.7 is very good, but i think it would attract alot more customers is they did that. it already has a excellent interior and exterior but an engine would be great. the new 5.0l ? anyone agree ?
Aw hush, the Taurus SHO is (basically) the same car with the exact same engine and MotorTrend tested its 0-60 in 5.1 (Car & Driver did it in 5.2). The MKS EcoBoost should do it in 5.5 or less.
I stand by it. I think the MKS EcoBoost would hit 60 in 5.2 seconds. I place heavy doubt it would be any slower than 5.5.
By the way, this is YouTube, not IMdb, so you don't need a signature ("ROFL!"). Plus the overuse of "lol" and its derivatives augments the fact that it is rarely actually used in the literal sense of what it abbreviates.
If you stand by the number, do you think the time will magically improve to 5.2 seconds from 6? LMFAO!
Like I said, name one respectable source that claimed 0-60 time was 5.2 seconds. If not, all you're blowing is a smoke, just like the knuckleheads at Lincoln. Even these sneaky people at Lincoln did not make that statement about 0-60 time.
I don't know the exact time the MKS EcoBoost would do 0-60 (I haven't seen any tests yet). But MotorTrend tested the Taurus SHO's (basically the same car and the exact same engine, so I'd expect very similar performance) 0-60 time in 5.1 seconds. Car & Driver did it in 5.2. If MotorTrend and Car & Driver (the two most popular automotive magazines in the United States) aren't reliable sources then who is?
Time tests, by the way, are extremely biased, too. differences between MT, C/D and Edmunds are at times, enormous. I wouldn't trust any of their tests, if your life was depended on them. ROFL!
I question where you get this 6 seconds statistic from. Ford themselves? you can't honestly take the automaker's numbers and believe they represent actual performance. if a company releases performance stats, they are assuredly devalued from reality. for example, Audi says the A6 goes 0-60 in 6.1. It actually does it in about 5.2. Porsche says the 911 Carrera S gets to 60 in 4.5. in reality, it does it in less than 4. citing the company's themselves is deceptive. (MotorTrend is my source, btw)
Taurus SHO is 200 pounds lighter and has 365 HP engine. Gear ratio is setup for faster take off too.
If you tweak the automatic transmission, direct injectors and use higher octane gas and stickier set of tires, I'm sure you will shave off at least 3 to 5 tenths of a second.
But, that's not what you're getting off the lot.
Right off the lot filled with regular gas, I'll be lucky to get any better than 6 seconds.
These are good points (finally). 200 lbs of extra weight and 10 less hp will probably make the MKS slower (but not by much). Gear ratios are probably shorter on the SHO, too (by how much, I'm not sure). Now I'm curious, if MotorTrend and Car & Driver are trustable (although the difference in their times was a mere 0.1 second), what source actually does have reliable statistics?
To tell you the truth? None. Really. And, I'm serious about that too. These time tests are extremely subjective.
Going back to MKS, which is what we were talking about, I think Lincoln is trying very hard to keep up with Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, MB, BMW and Genesis. However, others are improving quicker than Lincoln ever will.
I just don't see how Lincoln can rebound from their past mistakes: Towncar being rental cars, and Navigators being drug dealer SUVs.
The MKS actually outsells a lot of its competition, such as the Lexus GS, Cadillac STS, and Acura RL. the smaller MKZ is sold in a higher volume than the MKS, but it holds a smaller portion of a larger market segment. Nowadays, Lincoln sells more MKS's, MKZs, and MKXs than Navigators or Town Cars. from what I hear from people I know, Lincoln's general image is improving. I don't think its because the cars are getting better, but with the new styling, and Ford's relative prosperity compared to GM
For the month of August 2009, Lincoln sold about 40% less than it did year ago. That's much lower than the industry average. Lincoln was supposed to sell 47,000 MKS a year, just to barely make a profit out of it. They are curently selling at 1,300 a month. That's 2,700 less per month than they need to sell.
I wouldn't exactly call it a "getting better" performance. Rather, I'd call it a "on-the-brink-of-closure" performance.
What do you expect? None of these luxury brands are selling anything particularly well. The whole luxury car industry has suffered (more than entry-level brands). In August, Lexus was down 19%, Infiniti down 30%, Acura down 34%, Lincoln down 38%, and Cadillac down 55%. I certainly would not call that "much lower than industry average." that may describe Cadillac well, but much less so Lincoln. I said the image was improving anyways, not the sales. And Lincoln is not "on-the-brink-of-closure".
keep in mind Lincoln doesn't really need to sell that many cars. because they're really just fancy-pants Fords, a lot of development money is saved. this development money not spent means Lincoln doesn't need to sell as many cars as Lexus or Acura, who basically create their cars from scratch. I must say, personally, I probably wouldn't buy an MKS or an MKZ; I'd get a fully loaded Taurus or Fusion instead.
MKS weighs 4300 lbs and has a puny V6 3.5 engine with twin turbo. Lincoln say the engine has 355 hp. I highly doubt that, at best. Usual dyno test will probably reveal the honest power to be south of 320 hp.
Do the math. This shitty MKS will not do 0-60 in 5.2 seconds. May be around 5.9 or 6 flat.
@SpiagiaVita Is 355 or 320 hp really necessary? I would much rather have torque and an added 10mpg. I have built plenty of muscle cars with 400 hp in a 6000 lb car and that was plenty to put your head back in the seat. There is absolutely no need for that much hp in a passenger car.
Thank you thats just what I needed today, tenuous, that was almost out of my vocabulary range, either your blind or stupid they just don't look alike. Seriously put the two cars side by side and you'll see that i'm right and you'll probably go get your eyes checked. you short tempered retard. lol :) have a nice day.
You are obviously not old enough to drive if the 3 different versions of "to" don't come to mind when typing. There is the word to, like I am going to the movies. There is the word two like there are two deer in our yard. and lastly the word too, like this car is far too luxurious for people to say it isn't good, or I am going to the movies too. This car is great, and the interior far surpasses that of a town car. And this is very roomy too.
My problem with the S80 is much like the older 740s and 850s, I can open the sunroof, stick my head out and see better than I can with the sunroof closed.
If you aren't tall though, they're good cars. So are S60s.
The taillights were completely stolen from a Maserati Quattroporte. Its actually pretty funny. But in all fairness the styling of Chrysler's 300C was a combination of a Rolls Royce Phantom and a Bently Arange.
I think Lincoln should have brought back the old continental (suicide doors and all) much like Ford brought back the old Mustang. That would have sold like crazy.
I'd never buy this thing, I've been a lincoln fan since a kid and I drive an 01 towncar now, but this thing looks too generic, a guy who bought one told me there's a good few kinks they have to smoothe out with the dash (shortages), and braking system, and you give us front wheel drive? Kiss my ass! You jackasses should have just improved the towncar's technology & options to compete with cadillac & the germans, but you give us this thing???
I just got a Navigator and it is definately one of... no it is the best and most luxurious carI have ever seen. I have a 545i, and the lincoln has sold me on American cars
The BMW's have a harsher ride and steer harder, that's why they handle so good, than the All New From the Ground Up MKS which has a Plush Smooth Ride. Wait for the Ecoboost Option It will have 355hp and be 150 lbs lighter than the 4.6.
you can not compare BMW with a Ford is not fair for Ford. Ford are now almost catching up to the level of japanese automobile. Lexus are also catching up to BMW and they are almost level to level. But Ford gots a long way to go to pass or even be as good as a BMW.
not really trying to compare; just making a commentary on design. In no way does this MKS look old -- original and distinctive front grille, looks as modern as anything else from the side and back.
BMW is the standard for performance and handling, but they get away with sub-par interior design because of who they are. The most distinctive feature inside most BMWs is the air vents.... which is not a good thing
So do I; modern Lincolns and Buicks anyway. As for the 'better', comparison, hard for me to say. The 2010 LaCrosse shames the MKZ in almost every way for sure, but the Lucerne (top-trim models) can't match this new MKS. The Enclave is nicer than the Gator to me, but the price difference means they're not competitors anyway.
We'll see how they change over the next couple of years.
I compare Lincoln with Cadillac. And even then Lincoln is way better value and quality for the money. Infact, Ford/Lincoln is better than any other GM or Chrysler product period. I worked for Buick for 5 years and there's a reason I drive a Ford.
You are retarded. Although I should have expected that from some one who says they like Buick. I am sorry to say, but your beloved Buick will soon be gone just like Oldsmobile...
I own Chevy's, but if i had an choice to buy and Enclave or Navigator I would buy a Enclave. I had several neighbors that had their transmission blown on the Navigator with milage of 40000 miles, and something wrong with the computers.
Buick is a core brand for GM and it isn't going anywhere.
This is rediculous, the Navigator isn't even in the same market as the Enclave. I would own an MKX, MKT, Aviator or Navigator before Buick. Hell, I'd choose to walk before owning a Buick. Like I said, I worked for Buick for 5 years, and there's a reason I drive a Ford. Personal examples are cheap, but working with the brand and seeing EVERY car that comes into service, that's another story. Please, fix your grammar before replying.
Cheap? For pricing or just quality. I did like this car at the auto show, but the next Lacrosse looks like it going to be a very nice car. I would tell you that I would rather by a Chevy more than any other brand. I'm not going to buy a 40K car ever. I just think Ford doesn't offer the quality that a chevy has.
Cheap as in everyone has them and they don't have any weight (significance).
As far as quality, I guess it is as subjective as personal tastes in looks and styles etc... but, I do believe that Ford has superior quality, reliability and products in general.
More than just products, I think Ford as a company has already made huge changes in the past decade or two to make more than a quality product. This is also why Ford is in better financial shape.
Don't get my wrong that Ford as done wonders to improve their image over the years. But my dad has never had any problems with his 94 Century. My neighbor on the other hand has a Ford Explorer and is in the shop like every other month. I think Ford will do very well with the Fusion hybrid, which I like over the Malibu.
Car and Driver also preferred the Fusion hybrid to the toyota, nissan, honda and chevy alternatives.
Like I said about personal experiences, everyone has them. I've seen people swear off Toyota and honda because of personal experiences. At the same time, I've heard people say they'd never come back to Buick again. In the end, who cares about reliability, buy for warranty if it is that important to you. Atleast like me, you have brand loyalty which is more important that anything.
When the Ecoboost option comes out this summer it will look more aggressive, handle corners a lot better, and go faster. 355 Hp and 350 ft-lbs. of torque twin-turbocharged faster.
Ford is becoming more and more reliable. I have a 2005 Ford Fiesta and I never had an engine nor transmission problem. Ford improved it reliability to get more consumers or else it will lose. The reputation of the old explorer as well as the pinto gave Ford a bad reputation
An 05 Festiva? I thought it was over after 1993... I agree with you man If they could match the reliabilty with the way these cars look and drive, they'd be on top. I still haven't given up on them though
great review.... really shows how gorgeous and distinctive looking this car is. Apparently the 2010 ecoboost model is carrying 355 hp; hope it doesn't also carry a much higher MSRP to go along with it
What other cars are they talking about that outperform the MKS, that are the same price range, if not cheaper?

I compare Lincoln with Cadillac. And even then Lincoln is way better value and quality for the money. Infact, Ford/Lincoln is better than any other GM or Chrysler product period. I worked for Buick for 5 years and there's a reason I drive a Ford.

What's the reason?
coasterfreak100 2 years ago
You are retarded. Although I should have expected that from some one who says they like Buick. I am sorry to say, but your beloved Buick will soon be gone just like Oldsmobile...
SpiaggiaVita 2 years ago
I own Chevy's, but if i had an choice to buy and Enclave or Navigator I would buy a Enclave. I had several neighbors that had their transmission blown on the Navigator with milage of 40000 miles, and something wrong with the computers.
Buick is a core brand for GM and it isn't going anywhere.
coasterfreak100 2 years ago
This is rediculous, the Navigator isn't even in the same market as the Enclave. I would own an MKX, MKT, Aviator or Navigator before Buick. Hell, I'd choose to walk before owning a Buick. Like I said, I worked for Buick for 5 years, and there's a reason I drive a Ford. Personal examples are cheap, but working with the brand and seeing EVERY car that comes into service, that's another story. Please, fix your grammar before replying.
SpiaggiaVita 2 years ago
I'm interested in what you did at Buick?
coasterfreak100 2 years ago
Cheap as in everyone has them and they don't have any weight (significance).
As far as quality, I guess it is as subjective as personal tastes in looks and styles etc... but, I do believe that Ford has superior quality, reliability and products in general.
More than just products, I think Ford as a company has already made huge changes in the past decade or two to make more than a quality product. This is also why Ford is in better financial shape.
I worked in service at Buick.

Don't get my wrong that Ford as done wonders to improve their image over the years. But my dad has never had any problems with his 94 Century. My neighbor on the other hand has a Ford Explorer and is in the shop like every other month. I think Ford will do very well with the Fusion hybrid, which I like over the Malibu.
coasterfreak100 2 years ago
Car and Driver also preferred the Fusion hybrid to the toyota, nissan, honda and chevy alternatives.
Like I said about personal experiences, everyone has them. I've seen people swear off Toyota and honda because of personal experiences. At the same time, I've heard people say they'd never come back to Buick again. In the end, who cares about reliability, buy for warranty if it is that important to you. Atleast like me, you have brand loyalty which is more important that anything.

Toyota and Honda people are crazy. And I consider them cheap and plain looking (plus everyone drives them).
coasterfreak100 2 years ago 3
"cheap and plain" lol, the people or the car? :) I agree both ways.

Both....

There was no Honda competitor.

Buick will survive in China. In America it is finished.

Wow, very nice, but I would like to see a *slightly* more aggressive appearance.
togglenuts 3 years ago
When the Ecoboost option comes out this summer it will look more aggressive, handle corners a lot better, and go faster. 355 Hp and 350 ft-lbs. of torque twin-turbocharged faster.

this car is sick but probably unreliable like my ls
KevinLSV8 3 years ago
Ford is becoming more and more reliable. I have a 2005 Ford Fiesta and I never had an engine nor transmission problem. Ford improved it reliability to get more consumers or else it will lose. The reputation of the old explorer as well as the pinto gave Ford a bad reputation

An 05 Festiva? I thought it was over after 1993... I agree with you man If they could match the reliabilty with the way these cars look and drive, they'd be on top. I still haven't given up on them though
KevinLSV8 3 years ago
No Ford Fiesta 2005. It is not available in the USA. I think you going to get the 2009 version mine is the one before it.
samyzae 3 years ago
great review.... really shows how gorgeous and distinctive looking this car is. Apparently the 2010 ecoboost model is carrying 355 hp; hope it doesn't also carry a much higher MSRP to go along with it
