The show is ADAPTED for the american audience. This means that american writers have collaborated with the original ENGLISH writers in order to translate scenes in a way that relates what AMERICAN TEENAGERS are going through, in the same way that the english version of the show portrays what ENGLISH TEENAGERS are going through. The thing everybody is arguing about is not the different versions of the show, but THE DIFFERENT CULTURES being portrayed.
Also I favor Skins US more. And why is it that the majority of people from the UK like Skins UK more and most Americans like Skins US more? Your just defending your country when that's not what it's about you dumbfucks! I think Skins US is better because it's more modern in my opinion. It's not different!!!

The storyline is actually interesting at times and some of the actors/resses are doing a good if not great job. Hope they keep it up, I really do.
I dont think it was a bad idea at all to make an American version of Skins. American TV is in desperate need of a show like Skins, instead of all the teenybopper bull shit. So it wasnt the premise that was bad. It was the fact that I dont think MTV was the right network for them! I love MTV but if they'd gone with a network like HBO they could've done whatever they pleased, had nudity, had sex and drugs and given it a chance to actually develop without getting harshly critiscized.

First episode I was like wtf? They copy shot by shot the UK show and it was pretty badly done, just cause they tried too hard to do the same thing but then starting right from the 2nd episode (<3 Tea), the US version is growing on its own path without following the UK version and it gets really good. Less trash and more authentic I think, also the end is brighter as they clearly gave up on going too much into dark stuffs, it makes it overall a better illustration of what teenagers really are.

@EdenRainbow They did! My god, the only episode that is the same is the first one. I've seen the UK (BEFORE THE US) all of series 1-5, and ALL of the USA, and the only episode is 1 (and some parts in 3) of UK, and the US's story line is way better than the UK. Please, watch it before you judge.

prob because skins was James Newman (Tony) and Rachel Thevenard (Michelle) first show ever and they're both still teens. They prob still aren't use to interviews and stuff. Where as Sofia Black D'Elia (Tea) has been on other shows. She was in All My Children for 2 years prior to skins, so shes prob more comfortable in interviews because she's done them before.

It's a great concept for the UK where kids can legally get wasted at 10 without running afoul of any law.
The show doesn't take into account the social, legal and cultural differences that exist between the US and the UK. It would have to be completely rewritten to be taken seriously.

I love Skins! But it's kinda pointless to compare the US version to the UK version right now. Maybe after a season or two. I do reallly love season 3&4 of Skins UK tho! Like A LOT. I've actually watched the US version of Skins, I don't really like it. It doesn't grab my interest like the UK verison does. But that's just my opinion.

I am 24 years old & I LOVE MTV SKINS! I didn't "grow up" on Skins UK so I have no bias towards it, I have seen a few episodes & I enjoyed it BUT I really think MTV SKINS is an amazing show! It may be a little moe unrealistic than the original but the issues are still real, and the fact that it's been "americanized" is just part of it's appeal. I enjoy being able to vicariously re-live my wild "youth," and I think it is important for a show to truthfully portray youth in a raw truthful light.
I love this show and I could care less what UK people think, that's why there are too different versions. We live on different sides of the pond, and this is exactly why you should just stay over there. US material has way triumphed the UK's. Sorry but the only thing you're known for is Harry Potter. You can thank the US for supplying you with such great media. So just back off and just enjoy the show.

It's amazing how people criticise without even giving the show a chance. I have to admit, the first time I watched the first episode I thought it was garbage like most people. Why? That interview was done before there even was a controversy. They knew what they were getting into. That's why the producers tried to tone the sexual scenes down a bit. But unfortunately, they still had 15 year olds having sex on tv, and that's against the law.

people don't seem to understand that they completly ripped off charaters and storyline and altough it was commissioned by the creator it's still super frustrating that america keeps ripping off super succsesful programs from over seas and doesn't give them a chance to be succsessful on their own!
PLUS this cast is so superficailly beautiful, the whole point of skins is for it to be relatable and they where in the UK, another part of television and media that the US completely misses!

@jessicaorwateva I'm simply saying the American actors are a superficial representation of how people actually look, the whole idea of skins is that it's realistic and realatable to young people, the UK one has more real looking actors, still attractive! Just not as overdone as everyone in the US version, who looks like they lept off the pages of a magazine and it's creepy and ruins it, for me anyway.

prob because skins was James Newman (Tony) and Rachel Thevenard (Michelle) first show ever and they're both still teens. They prob still aren't use to interviews and stuff. Where as Sofia Black D'Elia (Tea) has been on other shows. She was in All My Children for 2 years prior to skins, so shes prob more comfortable in interviews because she's done them before.

i for one think it's a good thing the show isn't getting any traction in the US.
It's a great concept for the UK where kids can legally get wasted at 10 without running afoul of any law.
The show doesn't take into account the social, legal and cultural differences that exist between the US and the UK. It would have to be completely rewritten to be taken seriously.
US teens usually runs into more trouble trying to buy booze than uk teens. That's completely ignored in the show...

I love Skins! But it's kinda pointless to compare the US version to the UK version right now. Maybe after a season or two. I do reallly love season 3&4 of Skins UK tho! Like A LOT. And don't know if "we" can top it. But then again, Season 5 of Skins UK isn't looking too great right now. I actually would like our version better if I had only seen season 5 of UK and 1 of US. =D K. Theres my two cents. lol.

I am 24 years old & I LOVE MTV SKINS! I didn't "grow up" on Skins UK so I have no bias towards it, I have seen a few episodes & I enjoyed it BUT I really think MTV SKINS is an amazing show! It may be a little moe unrealistic than the original but the issues are still real, and the fact that it's been "americanized" is just part of it's appeal. I enjoy being able to vicariously re-live my wild "youth," and I think it is important for a show to truthfully portray youth in a raw truthful light.

I love this show and I could care less what UK people think, that's why there are too different versions. We live on different sides of the pond, and this is exactly why you should just stay over there. US material has way triumphed the UK's. Sorry but the only thing you're known for is Harry Potter. It's amazing how people criticise without even giving the show a chance. I have to admit, the first time I watched the first episode I thought it was garbage like most people. Why? Because I was used to the show being in a certain way and it dramaticaly changed, but you know what? I got used to it and now I actually enjoy it. I'm not the only one who thinks this way. All of you that are complaining about drugs and what not, if you have not seen the UK version than stop complaining, this show is way more than just party sex and drugs, it gets really deep into the lives of this teenagers and shows that their self destructive party behavior is just a representation of how screwed up their lives are. the show is really good. In fact this show reminds me of the books "chicken soup for the soul"

That interview was done before there even was a controversy. They knew what they were getting into. That's why the producers tried to tone the sexual scenes down a bit. But unfortunately, they still had 15 year olds having sex on tv, and that's against the law.
