That's just what they do with comic characters... they make them seem invincible, but whenever the writers want a different outcome there is always a simple solution such as Captain Americas box (whatever that is).

So basically the writers of comics manipulate their characters crudely to whatever ends they want to meet.

So I can argue that Captain Americas box was a deus ex machina and shouldn't have actually worked, and i bet whenever that happened it wasn't in Iron-Man's comic, but in another Marvel Comic which makes it different.

If you're going to argue that Captain America's device was deus ex machina, then you can argue that Iron Man's whole armor is deus ex machina. If you have a universe in which Iron Man's tech can exist, then you have to imagine there are counters to that technology.

Which is one of the many reasons why, again, Batman is superior to Iron Man, because he doesn't rely excessively on his gadgets. Batman's best weapon is his brain.
