That is not his hidden blade,he dose not have a spring.I is a bit of wood with a dagger underneath it on his arm.when he flexes his arm it creates a gap between his wrist and the bit of wood.This creates hid dagger to slide in the target.

The Auditore's hidden blade came about because Altiar passed on the Codex Pages that he wrote, one of which being how to construct the assassins' hidden blade.

@PhsycologicalExodus When you open your hand so that it is at a 90 degree angle to the top o your arm there is a muscle in the bottom of your arm that flexes and hits an extreme hair trigger, seeing as Ezio is very strong this makes the muscle protrude farther from the body when he moves his hand. Also it's just a video game, so, it's mostly fictional.

@SneerfulWizard Nice try, but that is probably not how the mechanism works. Definitely not how Altair's blade works. The original had a ring that goes in the little finger. The ring works by jerking his finger up(the wrist flick), which triggers a pulley and that activates a small, locking scissor jack, launching the blade out.

The design was changed between the first and second games, but I highly doubt it's activated by muscle movements like that.
