I love these freakin movies everythings physical and not a blot of CGI. CGI is like watching a cartoon, whereas 'The Thing' scared me shitless, 'Alien' scared me shitless, 'Cloverfield' scarred me...amazing how the creature kept finding the couple with the camera.
@RamBam3000 It borrows part of it's title from one of Burrough's John Carter of Mars books, Warlord of Mars, two movies based on these have been made in the past few years. Doug McClure was to have played Carter in a movie, but they made this instead, probably because they didn't have the budget of Star Wars, which was being made at the time, and didn't want to be accused of copying it, even though Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers and Star Wars were all inspired by Burrough's books.
Sorry clips. Left to right: clip from my film BLI and then it's trailer. And on the right the footage I was talking about. Oh and I meant Kick , Not kik.
They should have kept on making those movies. They were starting to kik ass by Warlords of Atlantis here. They could have gone the stop motion path for the eighties. I've posted a clip of how good you can get that even now. Clip above.
I saw this movie when I was a little seven year old. I feel in love with it; My parents had taped it on VCR for me (this was in the days before DVR and such). Sadly, it is now long lost. It seems the only place to buy the movie is on DVD from the UK; but it will not work in North American DVD players("region 1"), only in Region 2 media players; which are exclusive to Europe; particularly Britain. It is a GREAT movie, I do not know where to obtain it but if you can, DVR/TIVO it.
- the funding was entirely provided by Samual Z. Arkoff of AIP and in light of the film's sucess, he quickly ordered a second. Before production could begin, Milton Subotsky finally left the company after a long running series of disputes over the way it should be run. At the Earth's Core (1976) again starred Doug McClure and he was joined by Amicus' most loyal star Peter Cushing, in what is an unquestionably entertaining, if daft film.
I usually like cheesy movie like this one. But this was too stupid and cheesy even for me. BAD MOVIE! Sucked! Turkey! If this film were any more of a dog it would shed.
A fun pulp fantasy from the pre-CG era. The cool monsters were designed by effects artist Roger Dicken. Largely unheralded, Dicken lent his marvelous talent to such films as 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968), THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT (1975), and CAVEMAN (1981). He was nominated for an Oscar (with Jim Danforth) for his work on WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH (1970) and, alongside director Ridley Scott, created the famous "chest-burster" for ALIEN (1979).
Is this the movie in which the evil Ruler of Atlantis feeds his enemies to a subterranean monster whose only visible feature from a hole in the ground, are its multiple rows of gigantic [and gnashing] razor-sharp teeth?
I think that you're thinking of the "Lost Continent" where there is a ship from the spanish inquisition that rules over a land in the Sargasso Sea. That movie is a trip.
Glad to see the trailer for this classic 70s sci-fi flick. Seen it way back when I was younger and remember some parts of it. I agree with you all, this needs to be released on DVD instead of the crapola being made nowadays with CGI.
It's a shame I agree. I find 'Making of's' on DVD's boring now, just some guy prattling on about motion capturing this and wire framing that. You used to marvel at how these films were put together. CGI has killed all that dead.
So do I starfyre05. I miss stop-motion animation.
Since when is there a Hollywood contract where it says that for your creature effects, you are allowed to use CGI and nothing else like men in costumes or stop-motion or puppets.
i loved his movies,it is sad that we sfi fans have to sucum to the bullshit cgi images of today, whatever happen to the guy in the rubber suit, and tiny models of yesterday,i miss those days
good memories!! i´m writing from Chile and I still remember this movie...I was 6 or 7 when I first watched it in 1983, I´ve been trying to get it but it`s impossible because it has not been released on dvd, what are they waiting for? I want that part of my childhood now!!!!
man this was a good movie and a fresh remake with an extreme rating with the horror from the original it would be awesome and yeah this should go to dvd
I saw this movie back in the late 70's and all the monsters in it looked pretty good. Let's hope that someday it'll be released on dvd! Thanks much for posting!!

This could have been written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. His film has his spirit all the way through.

Continuing to make money, AIP commissioned a third film and Edgar Rice Burroughs' sequel book The People that Time Forgot (1977)

After some casting problems, American television star Doug McClure was chosen for the hero of the first film - The Land that Time Forgot (1975)

The film shows how a decadent elite uses religion to control simple minded savages.
No change there then.

Yeah I remember that film well.
The good looking brunette babe fights to the death shooting at all these neo-medievel rifleman!
Radical film! :)
It was these sorts of films that fired up the imagination and was good for kids back then. Nothing like the tripe that gets made now.

Monster movies have pretty much been killed by cgi. You're not going to see stuff like Warlords or effects like the Thing or Dragonslayer anymore.

I know! Since when is there a Hollywood contract saying that you are only allowed to use CGI and nothing else like stop-motion or animatronics.
But thanks to the film, A LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN: APOCOLYPSE (2005), they are using old-school effects for the monsters.
MattBL 4 years ago 4
@Fudgeya not so.
