When you inprovise a song like this without the right tempo, you kill it. Especially the Jazz feel. You might not want to let the pitch go out with high notes in the future, and the tougue slapping...oh god... Regardless....good job...
I agree with everyone else that said it was too fast. With all of the notes combined with Technique in this song, it's almost ridiculous to try and rush it, haha. Nice work on most of it though. It held together for the most part. Came apart in the solo sections though.
lame! he improved over it instead of playing the tenor solo! that was such a fun solo to play. you're alto player is very good!! the speed was too fast though, I agree. but otherwise, very good. I'm glad someone else has posted a video of this. I wanted to see how we could compare.
yea.. in all reality, we only rehearsed this for less than 2 hours total before we put it on this concert.. it was our senior year of high-school and we just wanted to have fun (I'm a Music Ed major in college now.. my primary instrument is Clarinet.. I have never played sax before this)
no no no no no no no! the saprano does have a similar body as the clarinet but it has the same fingerings as the alto, so its different than the clarinet
the clarinet and sax fingerings are the same in the upper register... but where the sax is the same notes for both registers, the clarinet is not... the clarinet plays open G where as the sax plays open C#. and then the notes run down from there.
Different key, you can play the same scales as you would on clarinet, but they're different scales. Instead of a clarinet, which is a register, it's an octave key, 8 full steps up.
yea, you probably heard this song somewhere from there as this song was written by Yoko Kanno (same composer that wrote for Cowboy Bebop). Not sure if this song was used in the anime however.
BARRI FLATTT!!!!!!!!!!

You are completly right, the bary pulls them forward in the beginning of the song.
They could have worked on getting the song a little tighter to.
I'm impressed, these guys did a nice job.

To fast :(
Songs like these aren't really supposed to be sped up.

I agree. You don't need to rush a jazzy song like this. It's supposed to meander. I still enjoyed it though.

Sure, it's a bit too fast, but it still sounds pretty good.

You play clarinet?
o/
Also, how is the soprano sax compared to a clarinet? It has a similar body, are the fingerings somewhat the same?
tsnaruto 2 years ago
the sax fingerings are exactly the same as the clarinet w/ the octave key pressed down... but the sax stays the same through both modes...
dont quote me though, its been 5 years since i touched the sax... and i only have about 3 years experiance w/ it after moving from the clarinet

Heh, this song reminds me of when Cowboy Bebop first appeared on TV.
It was a little too fast for my liking, but good job anyways.

Yeah, Yoko Kanno is an amazing composer, I love all of her works, especially from Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell.
Oh, I did find out that this song is in the anime. In Session Four: Geteway Blues, it's around the beginning.
Anywho, keep up with the good work.
PapaBehr89 3 years ago
I believe "Sax Quartet" was used in Session 4...
