  • This is Double Plus Good

  • Hey! I was watching that!

  • haha gay pride apple logo at the end

  • Is it me or does she have an ipod?!

  • futurama took the mick out of this in the episode when the guy from the 80s takes over planet express.... i get the joke now

  • @retardwithglasses

so when you saw that ep you just thought it was a weird ad they made up?

  • I wonder who that voluptuous blonde is.

  • @conewells It's Steve Jobs, don't you know anything

  • @eggplantboy7 Good one.

  • TO THE IPOD: As You can see below this is not the original commercial. This is the remastered version from 2004! That's why the heroine is listening to the IPod

  • Heyh ! Cool --- but what a dope ... 1984 was just a comedy.

Computers have changed the world ... to its worst ...

  • weird that she's wearing an iPod... !?

  • Ironic how the critics of police state are today mostly socialists, when capitalists seem to praise this book. Yet, the author of 1984 was a socialist as well...

PS. No, i don't see China and North Korea as socialist states, i see them as fascist hypocrites, just like the US, Italy and Russia. The closest thing to REAL socialism has been achieved in the Nordic countries Sweden and Norway.

  • If you see China and North Korea as non-socialist, you are the very paragon of doublethink. Congratulations, citizen. Doubleplusgood.

  • The very goal of socialism is to achieve justice and equality for all. Do we have anything that remotely resembles this in china and north Korea?

No, we have a movie fanatic with luxury mansions as a leader while the population starves

  • There are very few ideologies surviving today that don't list justice and equality as stated goals/aims. Ideologies are most meaningfully defined operationally - HOW do they aim to achieve what they state they want to achieve? Socialism is and has always been the belief that nationalization of some or all products and services (healthcare, basic supplies distribution)serve to gradually eliminate the existence of socioeconomic class without serious economic repercussion (hasn't worked once yet)

  • Although corruption has never been avoided when this has been tried in the past (a political upper class replaces the economic one), there's ample evidence it wouldn't work even if corruption were stamped out. With heavily decreased incentive of advancement, and little or no chance of being fired, most end up lowering the quality of their work significantly, lowering overall economic output without lowering wages or work-time. Further, vast resources are consumed by a notoriously *continued*

  • Sorry, i ran into a reply-limit...

...inefficient bureaucracy. So, production efficiency decreases and administrative costs skyrocket.

Now, socialism is a general term for a class of ideologies. The most famous special-case socialist administrative method is the Command Economy - applied most completely in Bolshevik Communism (a class of "Utopian Socialism"). In this sort of economy, EVERYTHING is centrally controlled, and there is no currency - individuals are allotted goods and services.

  • As an aside, I'd like to point out that George Orwell was at one time an Anarcho-Syndicalist, and was involved in the troubles in Barcelona - not directly a socialist. Anarcho-Syndicalism does believe in communal control of goods and services (in a complete way, as in a Command Economy), but NOT in any central control. Instead, that ideology believes in a sort of "rule-by-trade-union". Orwell became disenchanted in that movement after the Spanish civil war, as he did with other Utopian movements

  • You don't have to explain how most "socialist governments" work, i am very aware of that. Yet, we cannot call them "socialist", because socialism is a utopia, which none of them have reached.

And what you have explained is really what today is called as a "communist" system (we can't really call it communist, because communism is a utopia just like socialism). As i hope you know, "socialist" party's have nowadays a politic that is very similar to the one that socialdemokrats had 70 years ago.

  • They have nowadays embraced the liberal democracy, they accept the fact that capitalism can't be abolished over night and they also know that the economy cannot be centralized.

  • @lobaxx

Best comment ever. I read the book in 1984, and loved it.

  • @lobaxx

Ah, I see. IF a nation follows socialist ideology AND is able to maintain a (very small) degree of prosperity, then they're socialist. IF, however, those ideologies are followed outside of the (tiny) sweet-spot in which they can (marginally) work, and the nation naturally falls into totalitarianism, THEN they're "fascist", a catch-all for everything you don't like, uniting examples of very different types of government, allowing you to totally ignore evidence against your world-view

  • @JF2100

What? Straw men are used in farms, not arguments.

What are commonly referred to as "communist", or "Marxist" ideologies are authoritarian/totalitarian because hats what Marx thought would be necessary to completly abolish capitalism, and once it was abolished one could start building the perfect society (communism).

What nowadays is commonly referred to a "socialist" ideology has, acknowledged that Marx was in part wrong , and that the authoritarian/totalitarian way does not work.

  • funny how the ipod promoted revolution and unconformity.

when it is in fact. the other way around.

  • the best part of this is she had an ipod!!!!!

  • Apple accurately predicted the freedom that the PC would bring to the masses and why the world isn't 1984 today.

  • linux gives more freedom and it's free

  • A great future society, only stopped by spunk like apple. Better move on to our next best hope, a Brave new World.

  • Loved it.

  • 0:41... she had a ipod!!!!!

  • yes!

    does she¿

  • that's soo scaryy !!

  • future conan?

  • 1984 is a book by george orwell,

    its not filmed in 1984...

    love that book!! <3

  • Actually there was a film for 1984 that came out in 1984, It had John Hurt in it, it was really cool. But your right the original book came out in 1948 (84, 48 get it).

  • It was supposed to come out in 1948, but it actually did in 1949... bummer eyh?

  • Really? I was under the impression that the reason for the title was because he started writing it in 1948, not because he intended it to come out in that year.

  • Two notable things about that underrated film -- it was Richard Burton's last movie (for the screen; he was on TV afterwards) and he's effing brilliant, and the film was shot in the same locales and AT THE SAME TIME as the action in the book. Very very good film.

  • 1984 is no longer fiction. it's real and it's here today. CCTV everywhere, Britian turning into a new American state, Elimination of personnel identity. A book written in 1948 has predicted the future so well it frightens me.

  • You know this reminds Me so much of the World We are living in today.

  • That outfit She's wearing looks like a Hooters outfit. AWESOME!

  • I wish the original version was in sync, then that would be my favourite. Still, the product placement is tolerable in the face of such a marvellous production. The Futurama version in "Future Stock" is awesome too.

  • Gratuitous negative comment about specific choice in your operating system! Gratuitous positive and often mindless comment about suggested choice of operating system!

Also: Gratuitous comment involving ignorance to full description of video and noting presence of popular digital media player prior to its existence!

  • Such is the glory of Society.

  • lol, in 1984 the Super Bowl was played before January 24. Amazing.

  • The ipod was digitally added in 2004 for its 20th anniversary showing.

  • WE SHALL PREVAIL!

  • dat girl got an ipod in 1984. lucky girl. lol. jk

  • The ipod was digitally added in 2004 for its 20th anniversary showing.

  • i no i sayed jk

  • I Do Miss 1984

  • I miss 1984

  • oh NVM its a 2004 remake

  • Is that an ipod?!

  • ipod right

  • omfg! i saw this commercial back in '84.

  • The chick is pretty hot!!!!

  • Why does she have a iPod Video witch is clearly visible at 0:45????? Last time i checked the ipod didn't come out until the 00's

  • From the description:

"directed by Ridley Scott, this is the remake version made in 2004, added the ipod to it."

  • mac users stop saying window users suck and vice versa. It doesn't matter what OS you use. Except for Linux, free stuff is never as good.

  • You speak like a windows user. Linux is far more advanced. Don't dis it. When I see proprietary software that even comes close to my free software, I may agree, but right now you are so far off it isn't funny. Heck, windows doesn't even have a package manager!

  • I'm sorry.. but why do I need a package manager?

  • so you don't have to go through Hell to install a simple program.. No searching for a download, giving you an installation program, giving you a wizard, which eventually installs your program.

Instead you click what you want and hit 'Install'

  • now i've only used linux for a grand total of like an hour in my whole life, but from what i remember (in ubuntu and redhat), it was hard for me to install things. i'm sure it's cause i didn't know, but i was really confused o_o

i eventually got some things to install, but i had NO idea what i did o_o

  • I love this video. I think I've still got it on my IIci O.O I think alot of people are approaching the OS competition from the wrong perspective. Mac is wonderful for multimedia and games, Windows is nice for business (albeit the major security problems hinder it's capabilities as such), and UNIX/Linux is great for both purposes, and has better security than the other two. No one OS is really better, it just depends on what you want.

  • no mac is better for everything.

  • anti-communist. nice.

  • Fuck up...apple notebook sales rose 92% last month.

  • HE WHO STRIKETH DOWN THAT GREAT SHINING PILLAR OF TECHNOLOGY, THE MAC, SHALL SUFFERETH THINE BURNING LAVA AND ASH OF THE BEASTS LAIR IN HELL, AND DIE A THOUSAND TIMES OVER OF TEN SCORE DEMONS TEARING THINE FLESH INTO TINY LITTLE PIECES. amen.

  • Grrr I hate fuckwit macs grrr Icant say anything smart so i'll say fuck grrr. What an idiot I am so sick of these PMS PC nerds that have making fun of macs for years and now that its happining to them they just cant take it so the say stuff like "fuckwit" holy crap get a thesaurus Jackass.

  • Here's a penny. Go buy a computer that works properly, mmkay?

  • Classic example of just what a bunch of arrogant, self-righteous fuckwits Mac users are.

  • heh. your comment is a classic example of just what a bunch of arrogant, self-righteous fuckwits Windows users are.

  • Does that girl have an ipod? I know this sounds dumb but look carefully.

  • it said that it does in the describtion

  • I made a double take when I saw the iPod. Heehee!

  • The iPod was digitally added in sometime in 2004 i think.

  • ah! This looks like a case of postmodification. Which is ironically what 1984 is all about! So, we must conclude, that 1984 is here iwth us now dictating our lives

    ! YAY YAY!

  • this is a re-release of the 1984 commercial that included an ipod. not the original

  • that ipod was aded digitally for the 20th aniversary of macintosh

  • ENZOTAMURA (2 months ago)

    Scary.

  • Yeah, thats what I was looking at too. Sure looks like an iPod. Hum, wonder what the thinking behind that was... scary cool.

  • is that an ipod????

  • IPOD? :|

  • wow

  • if you check out the girl house throwing, you'll see a premonition of an Ipod on her hips.. thats 1984.. See Apple designed it way back just didnt have sufficient technology

That's to funny, to think that they (the company, QuietAgent) was going to pay $2.5 million, for that ad. To bad, that would have been great to see, Ooo well.
