i've got a LS 500 watt power supply, it's Enough for my specifications, intel duo-E-6600, 3 gig ram, 500 gig hard Drive, nvidia 9800GTx, and that's enough for me even for Games and all kind of stuff. and i paid 35 pounds for it but it's good i don't Mind these power supplys their not expensive just right for the Job

Something I am confused about:

During the LPS review Albert says "..P4 you don't need more that one" but I see a lot of the new P55 LGA1156 motherboards have 8 pin (or EPS12V) power plugs ( or even eVGA P55 FTW board which has 2x EPS12V- which he recently reviewed !!).

no, you really don't need more than a 4 pin. Boards with 8pins work fine on four and sometimes even come wither covers covering 4pins. The 8pin if from the old P4 days when CPUs drew lots of power and the resistance could start to melt the connector, so they spread it over twice the pins. With today's processors, it isn't really a problem.

computers arent power hungry only for games, that was a very closed minded statement. 3D rendering, modeling/animation requires very power hungry cpus, sometimes clusters of cpus. any sort of CAD or GPU accelerated applications may also require a lot of power to run. saying its all because of stupid games is a very ignorant statement.

Overpriced? Lol. You get what you pay for. If you buy a $45 700w PSU, you can expect it to fry if you run 500w through it. If you get a $100 700 PSU, it won't fry any time soon.

i had a setup with 2 9800gtx cards on a 650w psu.

it went pop, £780 worth of home built pc got fried.

current rig has a 1kw psu for a similar set-up to yours.

rule of thumb, if your not sure, get the bigger psu.

thing is, they did work, but the psu (antec) wasnt strong enough to handle the load.

resulting in it going... 'pop' quite spectacularly when it died.

that failure is what fried the components
