As far back as I can remember it always had silly stereotypes in it. Maybe people played SF games for serious business but Capcom has always thrown humor in all of their games.

Completely agree, it's terrible how silly its become- it's almost a parody of itself now and it's unfortunate as there are outlets for the over the top fighting (i.e Tatsunoko vs Capcom, etc.) but its out of place in the realm of SF. I admit, I even struggled with Gill/Urien from SFIII, but its nothing to this ridiculousness.
