Your choral director has got to be so cool! Now go out and buy the CD "A Christmas Gift To You From Phil Spector", the greatest Christmas album of all time.
Great version of this song. Thanks for the post. The Ronettes were great. And (although he's in trouble now) Phil Spector was/is a genius as a record producer.
@Rollin558 Yeah. And it's not only trouble. The guy ended up been a psycho. But as a producer, the guy was a genius. Just like Charles Manson, look how good of a composer he is. Great songs.
Really?!!! I never knew that! Wow! I love this version, because it's swinging! Thanks for the lost trival info, because who would have ever guessed a song so beautiful has that connection, to such a tragic day in hisory.
One of my favorite Christmas time recordings-puts me in such a great mood. As eccentric as Phil Spector was, I'm wondering-did he bring in live horses onto his studio for the sleigh horse sound effects? I can just imagine-"bring up the echo on the Appaloosa, and the Clydesdale's too loud!"
from xmas 1965 how well i remember, i was in the 3rd grade. also right after the 1st air cavs battle in the ia drang valley in the central highlands near the special forces camp at duc co. the 7th cav, they are not forgotten.
Thank you so much for posting this!! It brings back great memories!!! Ronettes christmas songs were the first Christmas songs I heard as a child!!! Thank you!!
Perhaps the most awesome and fun rendition of this song! Ronnie Spector's voice and the great mixture of rock+traditional instruments made this just incredible. Sadly, it was first released in December,1963 just weeks after President Kennedy's assasination and the public was still too shaken to have any Christmas cheer so this song initially bombed!
anyone else's shoulders compusivly twitch when the song starts?

I'm torn between the Ronettes or Johnny Mathis' version being my favorite of this tune. I love hearing both this time of year.

Great classic, but it's not specifically about Christmas. It's about taking a horse and sleigh ride in the winter.
