  • The little girl is Kym Karath. She played youngest child, Gretl in The Sound Of Music the year before this, was in the film Spencer's Mountain and The Thrill Of It All, starring Doris Day. So cute! She is the presenter of the documentary TV series, "Bouncing Back."

  • @tinalongwood also in a brady bunch episode!!

  • I love it I grew up on this style and type of music its great it is what true Rock and roll is.And for the pple that do not like it they are not that schooled on great music

from the 50s to the late 70s was a time were there were great songs and groups that we could all dance to and have a great Friday and Sat night with friends. That was a simplar time with GREAT music...

  • Marge on hold waiting about evil krusty doll.

  • Gary seems annoyed at Jerry's intro.

  • @rgarcia77 The whole video which isn't here. His dad was to have beautiful girls with him and the guys on stage. Instead, his dad gave him beautiful girls alright, just not in the teens. And so explains the look on his face at the beginning.

  • The drummer looks a little crampped.

  • Jerry should have said, "My son the singer, singing about the song he wrote about me!"

  • this video is adorable! :)

  • Cutst little girl on the planet...adorable.

    Larry

  • Look at 2:37. I swear that's Buddy Rich sinking the drums.

  • awesome

  • lol the bass drum on da drumset says playboy

  • ¿Alguién sabe quién ese esa nena tan bonita y me puede decir, por que Gary no la tomaba en cuenta?

  • Absolutely classic sixties music. They don't make it like this anymore.....:(

  • Leon Russell, of Leon Russell and the Shelter People, and, Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen fame produced most of these guys records. He also produced Deno, Desi & Billy's hit, I'm A Fool.

  • The little blonde haired girl looks mesmerized by Gary. I would love to know who these little girls are and where they are now. This video is precious. Love the look on his face when the song first starts. Priceless.

  • gary wrote this about his douchebag father jerry the prick jew...

"everybody loves a clown (jerry)"...so why dont you...

now that gary is like 60 and his dad jerry is like 85...they dont talk..have no relationship...

how nice...jerry u should be ashamed of yourself..call your son and apologize to him...

but jerry is a stubborn prick and will leave this planet beloved by millions but a stranger to his sons...

at least dean was close to his boys....

  • This has to be the most beautiful song I've heard by a Rock Band. I get kind of happy/blue with this one because the melody is so nice...and the lyrics. It reminds me of graduating high school. Having said that, this has to be one of the best 'Rock Bands' I've ever heard. It exceeded so many others in my opinion. One of my very favorites. Thanks for the upload. ; )

  • i wish they would make music like this again surley with all the tecnology it should be easy.that lil girl is mesmorised hehe:}

  • Peyton Manning on bass everyone!

  • Is that Peyton Manning?

  • haha My son the SINGER! I love this song and vid.

  • haha nice:}

  • by the way...Leon Russell co-wrote this song!!

  • This video is a little CREEPY..

  • @ReduxRex Are you a creep?

  • @ReduxRex you're creepy for thinking that

  • @mdefil23

Or, maybe you're trying to hide 'something?'

  • @mstoxicme

No-- I just discovered this music in early HS, since my step-dad's tractor only had AM radio.

  • he had so many hit songs, without the help of his famous father. Check his playlist and you will see all of his hits!!!

  • I think that is Peyton on bass

  • How funny, that little girl in the background with the dark hair on the swing sort of looks like I did when I was that age from the distance. All the little girls are cute on this video. I think I was probably that age when that song came out.

  • This is a great song, but thoes kids just freak me out, especially the one on the swing, like what are they on?

  • I love this song...the little girls are cute...but the one staring at Gary for the full song, started to scare me by the end....Creeeeepyy...Yikes

  • @mistapipe that's the youngest kid in The Sound of Music...Gretl....

  • Comment removed

  • @mistapipe Why a little cute girl scares you?

  • You make me cry!!!! WAH!!!

  • Get this, First heard this song on a "4" track tape player!

    { I was about 10 yrs old }

  • WTF?? Peyton Manning playing the bass guitar? From :55 to :59 . Bizarre.

  • very cute, great pop song, always loved it!!! thanks so much for this rare clip!!!

  • Incredible that these little girls are in their forties now in 2010.......I was only miles

from this studio in Hollywood when they taped this........Those great 1960's......

  • I love this song!

  • timeless, such talent

  • A Great Band, Loved all their music in the 60's So sad He went to Nam and when He came back music had changed, but still one of the greats ever.

  • Great memories..her name was Bonnie!

  • i remember this song as a 10 year old kid. it was then and is still now 2 minutes and 37 seconds of pleasure

  • She asks "Can I have your autograph?" and Gary says "Sure, and you might want my dad's too." Then the girls says "Oh, is he somebody?"

  • whats with the creepy kid just staring? i guess she is one of jerry's kids. ha ha

  • What does the little girl say at the end

  • Rumor -and probably a very true one -has it she was asking Gary for his autograph.

  • @me45404 "Get me off the stage! I'm sick of standing around here all day watching you lip-sync."

  • I hate evil clowns, but I love normal and funny clowns ;)

  • Gary was such a talented musician, but his father Jerry is a homophobic monster. He has disowned two of his own children, one of whom died last October of a drug overdose. When confronted on the death, Jerry simply referred to his dead son as a junkie.

  • @newdawnrevolution sounds a lot like fathers these days, they don't even know their children, so I guess by the same token, especially if you are famous..

  • This was on Hullabaloo

  • the guy sitting down looks like Peyton Manning

  • a clown has feelings too

  • 'Creepy'?? Yes..but only in in a fatherless society.

  • Masterpiece!

  • It would be cool/great if one of those girls would comment on this video and what the day was like going into this.

  • The little girls looked like they had to do this... How many "takes" did they do 50!! or so usually for a video.

  • jerry looks way too young to have a son that old

  • Jerry was only 19 when his son was born. I googled both of them. Thats why he looks too young for him to be his son.

  • Funny, I've always thought that too. Was this a telethon performance?

  • @lovejoecartwright very funny, I guess you are kidding, this vid is over 40 years old, so Jer's son is no longer too young to be his son... LOL!

  • Still like this song a lot.

  • This song is kind of creepy. Started to weird me out after a while.

  • this is from the program Hulabaloo in the 1960's, the beginning of the show Gary jokes with his Dad, who is the host, about making sure they have girls for his musical number. Jerry does, but little girls. It is very funny and innocent, and I think is really cute, so there :)

  • But, now that I see this video, I can say that son does look uncannily like father.

Know what I was doing when this song was 10 years old and still played quite a lot? Spending my summer days in a backyard framed by two big trees connected by a driveway to a front yard on a nice safe street up and down which all my friends lived. So, I like it. Anyway, the girl on the swing looks catatonic. If so, we can guess where they actually culled their girl props from.

  • You know why I believe what is said here, that it was either done in haste without a lot of forethought, or Jerry Lewis set up those kids to spite his son (whom I also never connected to the more renowned Jerry until I saw this)? Because it is doing a disservice to the 'models' in this video to have them associated with a song with a lyric like this. Wouls anyone in 1965 have thought these little angels could be accused of having any kind of dark side?

  • lol..yeah..the video is creepy..lol..lol..this was done in haste..poor lighting..incongrous background set..gary and his group were probably herded with no preparation and were instructed no worries..you'll lipsynching ...lol..the poor kids were probably the daughters of any of the crewmembers...well, audio and video technology cant be compared to what we have now...nice song though...

  • This video is creepy! I don't know who looks more uncomfortable- Gary or the little girl. Whose idea was this?

  • it was back in the day when everybody didn't sue everybody when life was great

  • @lvmusic61960 And it was a time when you got drafted, you went, just like Gary.

  • Miss Kym Karath(Who played Gretl in The Sound Of

Music)appears in this scene with Mr.Gary Lewis & His

    Playboys on Hullabullo.

  • Who are the little girls with Mr.Gary Lewis

    and his Playboys?

  • The young lady looking up a Gary Lewis is the little girl from The sound of music. I cant remember her name....

    Dont know the other gals....

  • Everybody loves a crown??? Hey, I want some! The cutest love song of all time...

  • ¡Buenísima!

  • i love this song. i think they are an underated group. i thought it looked like peyton manning too playing guitar haha

  • LOL i thought that too!

  • The World would be So Much Better If we Had Music like this Today.

  • Is that Peyton Manning sitting down back there on guitar?

  • haha that's hilarious

  • i said the same thing when I first watched this

  • Major learning gap. I never knew Gary Lewis was Jerry's son. Duh! Anyhow good song.

  • Jerry Lewis jealous of his son Gary Lewis??

People get real here, Jerry Lewis was a legendary entertainer. Gary Lewis was an excellent singer. Why would Jerry have any need to be jealous. Fathers and sons have their ups and downs, its not nearly as bad as you people make it out to be. Jerry and Gary were two fantastic entertainers, thats all that matters. Not the bad stuff. The good parts :)

  • I never forgot this song =)

  • Changel,takes me back to 1965.Nice song

  • The best L.A. writers and musicians Jerry's money could buy, still love the tunes.

  • Great tune from late '65!

  • I read a few articles over the years that father and son did not get along that well and dad was jelouse ( did I spell that last word correct?)of his sons fame. I also heard that Gary ended up fighting in viet nam where he got messed up on drugs. When he got ot of the service the music business had changed so much....he no longer was marketable to the record companies.

  • What a pity---that a father who already was famous, I might add, could be jealous of his own child?!

  • Great footage, Love the little models. Vintage stuff

  • I am surprised that Gary Lewis and the Playboys arent popular because all of their songs are one of the greatest songs of the 60's

  • Don't get the wrong idea here. I have the HULLABALOO CD set that this came from. The reason Gary looks so mad at the little girl in the begining is because he asks his father Jerry if he arranged for all the pretty models to be in their appearance on HULLABALOO like all the other bands always got. His father reasures him the he did just before he introduces Gary & The Playboys. Instead of 20 something models his dad Jerry arranged for the little girls to be in the show instead.

  • Not.

  • From the September 20, 1965 edition of "HULLABALOO", and one of the few preserved on color videotape...

  • Takes me back to Lamar High School (Missouri).

  • pity their not still singing today

  • these guys an d paul revere and raiders were so under the radar

  • I dedicate this song to Bean..She knows who she is.........Love ALways baby G.....

  • Observe the innocence in the cute little girl in red.

  • Great song. Takes me back to Gage Junior High,

    in Huntington Park, California. (1965)

Those days will never return. They were beautiful, and full of hope. And this was taped right there in Hollywood. Cesar M, Gonzalez, Miami, Florida

  • One of the best songs of all times!!!!!!!!!!!
