Awesome! How long did it take you to collect all of those? Also, how much money has this hobby cost you? I'm very interested in this. I tried painting one miniature at a store, but I'm probably gonna buy my own paints and miniatures :)

@LegendaryxEyes I've been at this hobby for over 7 years now, so it took me quite a long time to collect all those. The amount of money spend on this hobby I'd rather not think about too much. It's pretty expensive if you buy it all at once but collecting and slowly building up your collection makes it acceptable. When buying paints, you could start with primary colors. Red, Yellow, Blue, White an Black. Hope this helps you.

@TheDarkFrager usually paint bonds easier when a mini is primed. That's why you prime. Another reason could be that you want a mini to be mostly 1 color, say for instance brown, then you prime with a brown primer, saves time painting.

@TheDarkFrager gives an undertone, so everything you paint on top of that acts like the primary colour and the background is the shadow.. such as if you were to miss out a section or subtly fade the prime colour to the background prime (black) colour, it will look more 3D. As it creates basic toneation

@serserpo As a rule of thumb, always water down your paints. Straight from the bottle is just a big NO for me, because it almost always is too thick. For inspiration or techniques try looking up just lots of tutorials on internet. What also helps is looking at pictures of say for instance a piece of red cloth, or a red cloack, if you want to paint that. It can really help you to see where the highlights should go. Just use lots of reference for painting.

i got a old pack of warhammer fantasy orks (a battle set with a orcs and humans not the one with night goblins) and i was wondering since i dont live near a gameshop can i use regular black spray paint for my models like the kind i could get at a walmart??? or would it be best to work with a delvan mud that i have right now??? also any tips for the green i got i only have dark angels green but i do have bleached bone and skull white thanks

@mcworker17 You might want to mix some dark angels and some skull white, which makes for excelent orky looking skin. As for primers, I'd recommend the pricy but good GW primers, as they'll work just fine. Though others suggest buying a cheaper branch, but I don't know which one that is.

No one sucks at painting, you just haven't mastered the skill. So sucking isn't really a positive word. Try getting used to saying: "I'm not the best painter out there". That term applies to nearly any one painter.

heres a cool tip btw. put the sand on the model before you spray it. then spray the model and the sand all together. and no the sand wont melt like some people think. i got this trick from the guys at the local games workshop.

hey dude, i just got the return of the king rules set. i got it from my friends. i have the orcs and the gondorians from the set, but 2 gondor soldiers have broken weapons, thinking of making banners. im thinking of doing a rohan cavalry 500 point army and a saruman army for tournements, does the return of the king feature up to date rules or not.

finding the right color scheme is more about personal prefrence, for my dark elves i like to use a dark red scheme because it lookes sinister and noble. :)

how do you no by lookin at your figure what colours you need

research, find out about the race first (eg: tyranid are going to have exoskeletons so bone and green colours, whereas eldar are best when colourful)

then find out about the variations in the army (marine chapters, guard regiments) this can affect your army's build and characteristics

then you have to look at the individual units and decide if you want to follow the guides or experiment.

To actually play a model legally, you need 3 colours on it last i checked (base coat + 2 detail colours)

it's its any help, i started with my own eldar craftworld with custom colour scheme:

Black undercoat:

figures: golden heads and shoulders. Gold on finer details. Red runes. Black body lightly brushed with dark green. Will later touch up armour pads with snot green maybe

vehicles: 70% body left black + dark green camo again. Some armour plates touched up with gold. runes and weapons have red added for detail

so in total black spray paint, gold, 2x green and red paint. Enough for 1500 points
