popcorn? hot dog? Really? You should feed oscars the food that is meant for them to eat. You should give them pellets, bloodworms, guppies, rosey reds, even earthworms. Hot dogs are full of nitrites and dyes. Popcorn isn't good for the oscar's digestive system.
@wolverine1865 i had the same dilemma recently, everyone gave different opinions but i came to the conclusion that as long as u can filter it properly its ok, plus the thing with the 55's is that they're usually only 12 inches front to back which makes it harder for oscars to turn, so i opted for a 50 gal that is slightly shorter but a lot more depth, weekly water changes are key so i've gathered.
I hope you have a rock on the lid of your tank! LOL I had a Tiger and Albino in a 45 and they used to jump out all the time! They lived 7 years!! They were huuuge!! Nice tank, nice fish! I love Oscars! Check my 55 out.
Good sized Oscar fish!! Understanding the accurate fish to gallon ratio is truly an art! Some people have an option that is off logic and others right on. The point is that as long as your fish are healthy and you as the everyday viewer are happy then everything is ok, right?
55 gallon is just fine for 1 oscar...like me, I'm going to buy a 55 gallon after I save some money...because I own 2 oscars and 2 Blood Parrot fish...I know its not right for my fishes but that is for temporary only, for I cannot afford 100 gallon, i'm just a student...
i had 2 oscars 11" each and 2 jaguars one 11" one 9" they lived fine for 5 years in a 55 but one oscar died this year so i got rid of all of them check them out in my videos

well mine is 3 1/2 years old and he has always been in a 55 but never try to but another fish in is tank unless the oscar is still small and not agressive
it does matter though, because any disease should be treated no matter how little of an effect it has on the fish. Most of the time it is due to water conditions and not always the Hexamite parasite.
Oscars, even healthy, sometimes can get HITH. That doesnt mean it doesnt matter. Managing and possibly treating it matters very much if you want it stay healthy. Untreated HITH can spread or also can cause the fish to be highly susceptible to other fatal diseases/parasite infections.
how often do u do water changes

how long does it take for a albino oscar to grow..or it is based on the aquarium size?

oscars grow the same rate, regardless of the color. An inch a month when they are small, it slows down as they grow.

my oscars about the same size

bradj676 4 years ago
Be careful of what you feed your fish, you could end up giving them Hole In The Head disease.
2004exrider 4 years ago
that is very true but it also depends on the water quality of your fish
