@AlbertaJCW001 Did Jesus marry a women? No, he sacrificed that part of his life for our salvation. Did the apostles marry, no, they traveled to bring God's word & the life of Jesus Christ to all of His people. In the same way, priests from the generation to generation to come will continue to sacrifice their lives for our salvation. We should all pray for our priests.
@AlbertaJCW001 I am a catholic who knows very well that a) Jesus Christ was a Jew, b) the apostles were Jews, c) Paul died in Rome after a long travel as a captive of the Roman Empire, d) the events mentioned in the gospel happened where today the state of Israel is placed. Who should share the stupid idea that the apostles were Italian? Peter and Paul died in Rome, Thomas died in India. So what?
The last time I checked I the books of the Old Testament were included in my bible.
As a former anti-Catholic atheist, I must say.. That my conversion to Catholicism last year at St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC was by far the best experience of my life.. Wow, when this video was released, I pretty much hated the Church...
Alberta u dont know what u are saying so u better shut up ur mouth and sleep.or if u dont have anything to do u better read Bible or goo and clean the streets
nothing is more scary than to watch young religious fanatics all condemning gays and every other religion to burn in hell for ever. Yeah, something to be really proud of.
@leptismagna10 Couldn't agree more. And they're trying hard to conceal that rotten ethos under a layer of supposed "compassion", just to make it acceptable, instead of doing what's best and disassociate "sin" from homosexuality. Yet they don't have a single problem demonizing scientific progress. A single idea like evolution has had more impact saving lives than all religions had over all time.
Most fanatics haven't even read the bible in full.
@avdmeers It's not necessary to be a believer to understand that homosexuality is contrary to nature: in nature there two different sexes, made to be united in mutual giving and to generate new life and this cannot happen with two men or two women, not because catholics decided so but because it's nature
@littlemary86 Wrong, homosexuality arises as a natural phenomenon in a multitude of species. It has both genetic and non-genetic origin. Its non-genetic component serves a social function, which leads to a robust social hierarchy in many species. Moral judgments on homosexual behavior are often the result of subconscious disgust and not based on rational arguments. Furthermore, homosexual preference does not inhibit one from heterosexual intercourse. Culture has since increased prejudice.
@avdmeers You say homosexuality is genetic? please show me the scientific discovery of the gene of homosexuality. As regards its social components the society is full of bad influences that lead people against the moral law..and the society we live in in this 3rd millennium seems to exalt all the possible sexual perversions. Have you ever heard of people who got out of homosexuality through a religious conversion?
@littlemary86 (1/2) Homosexual behavior is not linked to a single mutation, it is an emergent behavior from various social constructs, just like sex, and intelligence. Simple physics can lead to a complex system. Homosexuality has its positive effects, and in no way is linked to any bad moral behavior. A (flawed) doctrine gives you no reason to view homosexuality as "bad", in fact it is a doctrine is a bad basis of morality, and the Christian doctrine most certainly is.
@avdmeers Ok, i see you changed your position on the genetic issue, in fact homosexuality is not written in anyone's genes. On what basis do you claim that homosexuality has its positive effects?? name them please. Sexuality has two main purposes - decided by nature, not by the pope - the mutual giving and procreation. Now in homosexual relantionships neither of these two purposes exist. You're describing conversion as a method to FORCE others to believe...no true conversion can be forced
@littlemary86 (1/2) Let me point out that pulling a straw man argument is not going to give you much credit. When I mention social constructs, one needs to realize these emerge from the genetic complexity. To put it better: emergence arises from the intercommunication of simple building blocks (genes). AI is a fine example. Your claim that homosexuality is unnatural does not hold.
Second, if you look into scientific literature observant of the bonobo species, homosexual behavior is a strong ...
@littlemary86 (2/2) indicator of robust way of avoiding conflict in a non-reproductive manner. It would be a good starting point to explore the merits of homosexual behavior.
Third, homosexuality does not inhibit heterosexual intercourse as pointed out earlier. The skewed notion that the ultimate criterion is reproduction is rather weak. Survival plays a huge role. That said, if you do the effort of looking at the dark side of religious conversion, you'd find heartbreaking stories too often.
@avdmeers You consider man equal to an animal...if you feel nothing more than that, you're free to think so...but it's totally contrary to evidence that shows men are spiritual beings and not just like the animals...prehistorical men had religious feelings.
The fact that homosexual acts don't prohibit heterosexual intercourse does not make homosexual acts moral. A sexual act with an animal does not prohibit natural hetero intercourse either but this doesn't make sexual acts with animals moral
@littlemary86 (1/2) Define animal behavior. Is animal behavior universal throughout all species? You might want to think twice before attributing negative characteristics. As mentioned before, if you heap out all the garbage in religious doctrine, you retain aspects inherit to human nature. You simply allow religion to claim a monopoly on them they don't have.
Religious tendencies aren't a big surprise, but inexplicable phenomena don't always remain inexplicable do they? MRI scanning shows...
@littlemary86 (2/2) .. that deeply religious persons prohibit blood flow to certain brain regions (look up 'God helmet'). It's time to step off from this desire for irrationality and starting using our brains optimally. After all that's what has led to our advancement.
Lastly, I asked you to provide sound arguments why homosexuality is wrong, and you don't name any, not one. Your belief stems from a doctrine invented by humans, with no origin in any supernatural entity.
@avdmeers I've already told you why homosexuality is not moral...natural law establishes it, not the Church...go read the past comments, if you don't like it fine but don't say i didn't give any explaination
@littlemary86 No you have not. I've given indication as to why it is natural and presented the facts as they occur in nature. I highly doubt you've gone to research the role of homosexuality in bonobo species. Ignoring evidence is too common among believers. Natural law establishes a role for homosexuality. Instead you try to walk your way around my demand for arguments. Again, give me sound arguments, you have not provided any.
@avdmeers We're human beings, not bonobos...you said homosexuality has some positive aspects in human society, name them...things among humans are not exactly the same as in the animal world...you talk about human species as it were no different from animals...you would have more than a problem in defending your fundamental rights if we really used this idea.
@littlemary86 (1/2) Like I hinted earlier, go out and look for studies about homosexuality in species (including Bonobo). The evidence and observations on how they improve group dynamics is overwhelming. I've given some crude examples, but the only way you'll ever know is to find out yourself. Since you're a student, I would expect you to be independent. You can ask specifics, but don't demand in a condescending tone that the world needs to bundle it all together just for you.
Furthermore, I find your approach to be rather disturbing, it feels like your denying homosexuals their ability to love, have compassion and be humans, which they are. Tell me, does it give you a kick when you are allowed to profess your discriminatory behavior and tell homosexuals, they are bad? You wouldn't have a single argument to justify it, as you still haven't given reasons (I haven't countered) why homosexuality is unnatural.
@avdmeers You're really boring, repeating over and over the same things without knowing what the christian doctrine really claims about homosexuality: homosexual acts are immoral because contrary to the natural laws that regulate human sexuality...this doesn't mean homosexuals are not persons or they're inferior or they don't deserve to be respected...they're children of God too but with disordered tendencies in their sexuality. Period...btw a tendency that can be corrected
@littlemary86 If I were you I'd be bored to for not being able to provide arguments backed up by evidence. Perhaps you can break the cycle by giving some?
On homosexuality: Lev 20:13. Homosexuality is not immoral in the slightest sense, to say so implies it is had strong bad consequences.
Respect for homosexuals... sure wasn't always the case (Middle Ages, Nazi Germany was strong Catholic, ...). No wonder nobody takes you seriously.
Scientific literature backing up you correction claim?
@littlemary86 (2/2) Yes, we are animals. But... why is it that different animal species, behave differently? And... why is it that animal species more closer together on the evolutionary tree of life exhibit closely related behavioral patterns. Gee, I wonder why that is.
You, see aside from some mutations, the main difference between us and chimpanzees on the molecular level is the fusion of two chromosomes into chromosome 2, a chromosome closely linked to intelligence properties... (3/2)
@avdmeers So If someone decided to kill you or your mother or your best friend i guess you wouldn't condem that person to 30 years of jail..he's killed nothing but an animal...when you kill a pig, a cow, a chimpanzees you don't go to jail.
@littlemary86 You seem rather daft on all the hints I've been giving. You see, when for example an individual from a closely related species to humans commit a murder inside his/her own community, you can bet he/she will not survive for long. That's nature.
Again, you lack every knowledge on what animal behavior implies, since you associate it with murder, rape, ... natural selection favors social interaction for our species (and others). I've pointed this out many times, read before posting.
@littlemary86 (3/2) You're right that we are animals, including you. But you're not correct in stating that animal behavior does not imply emotions (ape species show emotions too), that animals can't reason (they can reason, in terms of short memory patterns cognition, chimpanzees outscore humans), or that moral values are not present (many species show altruism and other social skills). So go ahead, use it, but don't rape it... science will be there to shove the hard facts in your face.
@avdmeers Honestly, i have never met anyone who repented from converted to God. On the contrary, i know many people who regret to have spent many years of their lives away from God. The only dark side i see is the pride and hatred that lead many to hate their creator...some people have used religion to justify their terrible purposes, without a doubt but it's men's fault not religion itself. You said prove the existence of God...to look at the universe is sufficient to understand rationally
@littlemary86 a rational being created and ordered it. But the best prove you can have is to try to call him to show you he really exists, if only you put aside your pride and hatred against religion.
@littlemary86 If only you'd put aside your blind and stubborn belief, you'd see just how puny and unstable the foundation of your religion is. You'd see it for what it really is, a machine to let individuals gain control over masses by preying on their weakness, undeserved control.
Do proceed with laying down more worthwhile arguments to argument for the possibility of a supernatural creator. Cause so far, there is none on the table.
@avdmeers I've experienced God in my life, i've seen how life completely changes with or without Him...and no scientific experiment is needed for that. If you think science is enough for you i surely won't be the judge of your life but please stop considering believers stupid and blind...you can leave without science but not without love
@littlemary86 The correct thing to say is that you hallucinate and have an unhealthy desire and try to personalize a concept that is irrational to begin with. Your faith is based on the assumption present in a large community, which doesn't make it any more real. It remains irrational and with no shred of evidence backing it up. I challenge your religious beliefs, and I have all right to do so, they are immoral and untrue.
@avdmeers Believe me, i have no intention to force you to make you change your mind...God himself cannot do it...on the contrary i see a strong attempt on your part to convince me of your ideas, as if you couldn't stand the fact that many many people still strongly believe in God in the 3rd millennium. Just curious...did God do anything bad to you to provoque such a reaction??
@littlemary86 (1/2) I believe you, I also believe you have all intention to not let the truth reach your mind at all costs. My arguments have been well placed and backed up with evidence in many cases, yours weren't.
How could I hate something that doesn't exist? What I do hate is the gullible mindset of humans, quite a bad remnant of evolution, but history has proven many times that natural selection weeds out the gullible. Another thing I hate is the greed of man leading to the smart idea ...
@avdmeers Wow...your beliefs in evolution are perfect to back up racism...religious people are a bad remnant of evolution..they should be eliminated...most crimes of xx century were precisely based on the theory of evolution and you dare talk about the huge benefits of it. I really pity you
@littlemary86 Straw man and ad hominem argument, I was wondering when you'd start cracking. Evolution is not a belief system, it is a (powerful) theory describing reality, it is not a worldview. Firstly, there is no such thing as race (define it for me). Secondly, evolution is largely dependent on diversity, which is contradictory to racism, you've made a false accusation. If you know anything about evolution, you'd know it is contrasting to eugenics. Do some research next time.
@littlemary86 (2/2) ... to start a religion so they can make money off of the gullible. Happens all the time, and everywhere. You honestly don't think cults are meant to help people, are you? They're here to extort. And if they can keep themselves alive, by allowing its members to support each other in their delusion, they've happy to do so. Again: AJ Miller (Queensland, Australia), and example out of many. Religion has nothing to say on science, morality, sexuality, ...
@avdmeers The one who started christianity was killed on a cross, lived a whole life in poverty and served the neighbour...he made no money at all from religion...his apostles had the same destiny and many christians do the same today...i'm a christian, so if you want to talk to me talk about Jesus not aj miller etc...
@littlemary86 That's the myth, and you have no evidence to back it up. And the bible does tell us some details on money (Luke 8:3, John 12:6). Ministering by women, expensive oil treatments, seems to me he was living a good life. The only extra-biblical references to Christ have no weight or don't even give valuable information. There are no recorded miracles, nothing.
The AJ Miller issue was to draw an analogy to cult psychology. Christianity is a cult, and you have no counter evidence.
@littlemary86 (1/2) "With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
The fact of the matter is: you haven't bothered reading the stories of people who had to endure religion in its true horrible form. If you choose to ignore those stories, I can not have respect for you.
Beauty as an argument for god's existence... really? Science does a way better job in explaining its ...
@littlemary86 It is your duty to look for them yourself. And you owe it to yourself to go further. You're a student, and if you go through life blinded to reality, I'd say you've failed as one.
As one of numerous examples (add point between 'blogspot' and 'com'):
@littlemary86 (2/2) ... vast complexity. You may have stared at the wonders of nature. But I've stared at both its wonders and the beauty of science explaining it. I appreciate the wonder of science to grant you insight into the most common, and the most complex phenomena.
No, I'm afraid your argument in by far insufficient, and but an emotional appeal to try and ignore the power of science to reveal the natural processes leading to life's diversity and cosmological beauty.
@avdmeers I love science, it's a God given gift to understand and appreciate the beauty of creation...and it's a sufficient instrument to claim the existence of God...
@littlemary86 Well, that's the easy way out isn't it? I known many just like you, saying how they 'love' science, yet never care to even look at what goes on in the scientific field. You haven't given arguments for the existence of god (though I asked for it), and you already go on about claiming it's god's gift. Your arguments are devoid of any logic reasoning, they can only arise from the mind of a simpleton who doesn't ask questions. I doubt you can tell me the principles behind evolution.
@avdmeers Yeah..everything we have is God's gift...the first one is life..and yes it's the only way out since we move on too different levels. Everyone's happy with his own, so what's the problem? at the end of our lives we'll find out who was right...better this way?
@littlemary86 (1/2) Again you use the false assumption that there is a supernatural force without arguing for its existence. No student should be this close minded. I find it mad to say that religion keeps a person happy, it is no different than saying that cocaine keeps a junk happy.
Here's some food for thought. History is riddled with charlatans trying to push new religions down people's throat. Some don't succeed and die out, either in tragedy or not. Some succeed and give rise to ...
@littlemary86 (2/2) ... Mormonism, Islam and Christianity. And it doesn't stop in modern days. Right now, a person called AJ Miller, claims to be Christ' second reincarnation. Silly? His congregation is growing steadily and the money flows in.
In 150 years, science has build up an extensive and detailed knowledge on life's mechanisms, so elaborate the theory is to be considered fact. You've had 2000 years to come up with conclusive evidence of your religion. You still haven't got a shred.
@littlemary86 Given the massive amount of evidence breaking down religion, you hardly have a crutch to stand on and believe there is an afterlife. So this is the natural scenario:
When you die, it ends. As you slip away into nothingness, it becomes apparent that you have led a life in vain. Idolizing the invention of a bunch of deceivers to the heart. Perhaps you might find solace in your mind circumventing the realization you have thrown away your life and feel sadness. But it's still sad...
@avdmeers ''Given the massive amount of evidence breaking down religion'' if you're trying to convince yourself you're right it's ok...if you think you may touch my faith with this made up phrase, try something better.
If this is the way of reasoning of atheists, faith brings people to reason much better: if i slip away into nothingness when i die how can i be aware of having lived in vain?? some part of my being must survive to have this kind of consciousness...does it make sense?
@littlemary86 (1/2) First off, I'm not trying to convince you, I'm simply giving you the fact, whether you like it or not. Christianity is form of plagiarism of other religions in nearby geographical areas (Egypt, ...), including virgin birth, resurrection story, ... I expect you to ignore it, as you're programmed to avoid and deny information.
The fact that studies have shown faith/religion to negatively correlate with reason/education and the scientific landmarks have been made in absence ...
@avdmeers Christianity derives from Judaism, jews were so jalous of their God in opposition to the pagan gods of the nearby populations they would have never allowed pagan elements to enter their religion...Jesus' apostles were jews and so all the first christians. You really don't know what you're talking about
@littlemary86 And the elements of virgin birth and resurrection, and sun god are shared among other religions closely situated in time and geographical area. It's been well documented, you're just reluctant to read up on history. I know rather well what I'm talking about, because I know if it, you seem to be the one in ignorance here. Probably the third time I have to encourage you to study some more.
@avdmeers I don't care a thing of what your opinion on me is...are you hapy with your beliefs in science alone, evolution, death=turning into nothing, man=animal...go for it!!! i'll leave you the last word sure it'll make you happy...i have much more useful things to do with my time. Goodbye
@littlemary86 I'm simply pointing out your misrepresenting science and even lying about it. I gave you the burden of proof and instead of coming up with arguments you told straight lies and tried to work your way out in an emotional way. It just shows that Catholicism has no form grasp on reality, they ought to disband and stop leeching on children and emotionally sensitive people. Same for all other cults and religions (which are basically big cults... breaking up into multiple denominations).
@littlemary86 (2/2) of faith, just shows how wrong you are.
As for your remark, I explicitly stated that you might be able to avoid the crude realization of your wasted life (perhaps try and read better next time?). But does it make your lifestyle any more justified? You don't want to visualize the scenario, since it is one where you might have doubts about your religion. That's the fear factor stops you from going further. I'd expect a student to ponder on, not shut off immediately.
@avdmeers If i won't be able to realize i was wrong in believing in God i'm not taking any grave risk, after all faith helped me to endure great sufferings for which many unbelievers commit suicide...it was a useful tool for my life..even if imaginative..on the contrary, if you're the one who's wrong then you're risking much more, you're risking your eternal destiny. But i guess you are not honest enough to admit it to yourself
@littlemary86 Pascal's wager. You insult many non believers that do not commit suicide and many believers that do commit suicide. Atheist dominant countries have some of the best statistics in the world when it comes to poverty, criminality, etc...
Again, you have no evidence whatsoever that your religion isn't a scam (there is much supporting it to be a scam). Basically I'm more honest admitting I choose not to support a tyrant, but to be righteous and oppose.
@littlemary86 (1/1) On this comment: prove me god is real. Then we can start talking about hearts and other stuff. And no, I won't believe you. I want falsifiable logic that can be tested, and not the same emotional appeals that started the whole mess called religion.
@littlemary86 (2/2) Perhaps you'd like to give more elaborate reasons to regard homosexuality as bad? Religious conversion as a method is potentially harmful way of forcing someone to accept an already unjustified belief. In the majority of cases it does not work, instead leaving a living person behind as broken or worse... dead. If you also support the Pope's contraception policy, I advise you to defend that position to the people in Kenya, where outbursts of HIV infections have occurred.
@avdmeers Really, to say the pope and the Church are guilty of HIV infections is either be ignorant or just in bad faith...the purpose of the Church is to remind God's plan on human sexuality...the pope does not say have sex whenever you want but don't use condoms...he says not to have multiple sexual partners and be faithful to your wife/husband. If everybody put into practice the catholic morality on sexuality AIDS would totally disappear!!
@littlemary86 First of all, the Church does not have the authority to dictate sexual behavior. Secondly, human nature prevails over doctrines, always has always will. What matters is sex education and availability of contraceptives. Human rights organizations have to go to great lengths pushing through, and the main opposition comes from churches, which could do more effort spreading Sex. Ed.
Before making claims, you should at least browse through official reports, such as those of UNAIDS.
@avdmeers The problem with people like you is that you don't care a thing about the morality...the only thing that counts is have sex whenever you want without getting deseases...the purpose of the CHURCH is not this one...the problem with you is that you hate God and its commandments and try to justify immoral behaviours. Good luck
@littlemary86 At this point I'm pretty fed up with you. As a challenge I asked you to describe me animal behavior, you'd come to the conclusion it's not all centered around 'negative characteristics', and that what is considered moral comes about in nature (you'd be surprised the similarities between us some animal species concerning altruism). You've ignored to do so. You have set up another straw man argument. Then you go on about launching ad hominem attacks, which was to be predicted.
@avdmeers Don't you think an open mind as you claim you are should also consider the possibility you're the one who's wrong? i took into consideration your idea of death=end of everything...and i answered...now you should do the same with mine.
Since you like logic so much, you said you're fed up with me so why are you continuing to reply to me and challenge me?
@littlemary86 (1/2) You didn't take mine into consideration (see previous posts). Anyway, given that all claims the bible makes related to the natural world, have been mercilessly disproved, we can explain nature far better, protect ourselves from diseases, find contradictions and loopholes in the bible, uncover the history behind the sham that is Christianity, I argue that the burden of proof lies with religion. In 2000 years, you have only a tradition, but no evidence in favor of a god at all
@littlemary86 (2/2) Simple, you're close minded. All you claims had no evidence to back you up, and you're parroting what you've been taught by your environment and church. Your arguments weren't arguments to begin with, just infantile attempts.
Now, probabilities aside, I'll answer you: the god you worship, like many others is a jealous, murderous, immoral god (read the bible). So if I'd appear for him and the description matches, I'd spit on him, not only to insult him but also to avoid (3/2)
@avdmeers The only evidence i have and i can offer to others is the PERSONAL experience of the risen Christ i have had in my life...i don't care if it doesn't have a scientific explaination...it deals with my spiritual being and science cannot do experiments with it, so hard to understand this difference?
@littlemary86 Ah yes, personal experience. Cause if you've 'experienced' (hallucinated) a rabbit with lasers as eyes and wearing Prada shoes singing Beethoven 7th symphony, it makes all the more true, doesn't it? Believe all you want, just know it has no evidence supporting it and you're participating in a delusion, which you cannot justify.
Too bad the same difference you advocate doesn't hold, as it would imply that your spiritual beliefs can not manifest themselves to you.
@littlemary86 (3/2) ... being stuck for an eternity in a place riddled with many of the dumbest and most intolerant people on Earth. I'd rather spend eternity in hell, alongside people that have made great advances in science, society, etc... who are able to love one another, not out of fear for god, but out of empathy. But that were still banned, simply for not petting the ego of god. I'll be joined by the countless babies that dies prematurely and people of other religions.
@avdmeers Well, be sure you'll go there...God respects your will. You really know NOTHING about catholicism, you talk out of ignorance otherwise you would know aborted babies go to heaven, people of other religions can go to heaven and people with false love of God won't. Study better the cathechism and after that comment
@littlemary86 Yes, except there is no hell, and no heaven. Again, the burden of proof lies with religion.
I was raised Catholic, I've plowed through the bible and know my fair share of religion. No need to set up an act, sunshine. Secondly, tell me where the bible says aborted babies go to heaven, and Gentiles. The bible contradicts you, so try and study up on the bible.
@avdmeers The Bible tells nothing sure about the destiny of aborted babies...surely it doesn't say they'll go to hell...what we can be sure of is they're in the hands of a loving a merciful God...since he wants everyone to be saved...let God do his job.
@littlemary86 Everybody is born with sin. If a fetus has gained consciousness after several months and dies, it dies with sin according to your teachings. Not to mention the enormous amounts of fetuses dying from birth defects. I suppose you could thank your invisible sky-man for that. If there is a creator, he has done one lousy job.
@avdmeers How many lives has evolution saved? i'd be curious to know how...God saves your soul firstly that is immortal, the body will turn to dust one day. Most important, don't mix fanatics with all the others
@littlemary86 Science progressing on the theory of evolution has made great advances in medicine, allows us to trace diseases to gene sequences. Without it, we would have no resistance to a broad spectrum of diseases. You're disputing directly results booked in a large number of scientific domains and its applications. You however have no evidence at all justifying your religion. Lastly, I show contempt towards fanatics, but that aside, religion is not a force of good, as history has shown.
@avdmeers Religion is not against science, faith and reason are not in conflict...what a wonderful day it will be when this stupid idea vanishes. First of all when you talk about religion you talk generally as if christianity were the same as the religion of maya who sacrificed human beings to their gods. You say religion is not a force of good?? don't you know that it's because of a religion that today there aren't slaves anymore, that women are considered equals to men in dignity, that human
@littlemary86 (1/3) The fact that religion has been present throughout historical events in no means portray it as the leading cause, and doesn't justify their hideous claim they play a benevolent role. Its doctrines are in sharp contrast with modern resentment against slavery, equal right, etc... I argue that most beneficial accomplishment are due to human nature itself revolting against the obsessive control of religion. Your contrasting claims are rebutted by opening any history book.
@littlemary86 (2/3) At face value, science does conflict with religion. To dismiss it as a stupid idea is but a futile attempt. We've seen religion evolve out of necessity to the principles of NOMA, yet eagerly to jump on any plausible evidence that god does interfere with the natural world, only to retreat when disproved again. If you claim that religion has no business in the natural world, it is but a mere belief, no more plausible than a belief in flying turtles. Science contradicts every...
@littlemary86 (3/3) claim in effect on the natural world as told in the bible. Even on morality, religious doctrines are ridiculous, a copy of basic rights, corrupted with extra laws to keep people meek. If you chip away the outlandish hypocrisy, the beliefs without evidence and the encouragement to remain ignorant of a religion, you retain what is already explained by science. Religion is nothing but a malevolent agent preying on human nature to enrich a group of charlatans.
@avdmeers life is defended as sacred, that racism is banned cause we're all part of God's family, that poor and sick are respected and helped...and i could go on.
The road has not been easy uptil his point but none of that matters now, because God has enabled us to go. Im truelly greatfull and can't wait to see you all there...
To those that are unable to make it, Know that God will bless you in another way, and never give up HOPE!!
The music and video is inspiring and superb.. I have been watching so many of WYD videos on youtube! All conveying the message of christianity .. faith, charity, friendship and living life to the full , The Universality of Church is the biggest gift to mankind Long live the Pope and the let the WYDs go on this way i wish and pray...
I want to go so much that I told my parents to cancel my debut party so I can go to WYD. The only problem is that its too expensive. I hope my money will be more than enough for me to make this trip.
Hello everybody! i'm from Sabah,Malaysia and i hope the entire altar server group from Sabah will go to Madrid there to serve the masses.I am an altar server(mass prefect)too and i hope i can go!

nothing is more scary than to watch young religious fanatics all condemning gays and every other religion to burn in hell for ever. Yeah, something to be really proud of.
leptismagna10 5 months ago
@leptismagna10 you know what? you're scary...!!
jadetiger88888 5 months ago
@leptismagna10 Couldn't agree more. And they're trying hard to conceal that rotten ethos under a layer of supposed "compassion", just to make it acceptable, instead of doing what's best and disassociate "sin" from homosexuality. Yet they don't have a single problem demonizing scientific progress. A single idea like evolution has had more impact saving lives than all religions had over all time.
Most fanatics haven't even read the bible in full.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers It's not necessary to be a believer to understand that homosexuality is contrary to nature: in nature there two different sexes, made to be united in mutual giving and to generate new life and this cannot happen with two men or two women, not because catholics decided so but because it's nature
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 Wrong, homosexuality arises as a natural phenomenon in a multitude of species. It has both genetic and non-genetic origin. Its non-genetic component serves a social function, which leads to a robust social hierarchy in many species. Moral judgments on homosexual behavior are often the result of subconscious disgust and not based on rational arguments. Furthermore, homosexual preference does not inhibit one from heterosexual intercourse. Culture has since increased prejudice.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers You say homosexuality is genetic? please show me the scientific discovery of the gene of homosexuality. As regards its social components the society is full of bad influences that lead people against the moral law..and the society we live in in this 3rd millennium seems to exalt all the possible sexual perversions. Have you ever heard of people who got out of homosexuality through a religious conversion?
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) Homosexual behavior is not linked to a single mutation, it is an emergent behavior from various social constructs, just like sex, and intelligence. Simple physics can lead to a complex system. Homosexuality has its positive effects, and in no way is linked to any bad moral behavior. A (flawed) doctrine gives you no reason to view homosexuality as "bad", in fact it is a doctrine is a bad basis of morality, and the Christian doctrine most certainly is.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Ok, i see you changed your position on the genetic issue, in fact homosexuality is not written in anyone's genes. On what basis do you claim that homosexuality has its positive effects?? name them please. Sexuality has two main purposes - decided by nature, not by the pope - the mutual giving and procreation. Now in homosexual relantionships neither of these two purposes exist. You're describing conversion as a method to FORCE others to believe...no true conversion can be forced
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) Let me point out that pulling a straw man argument is not going to give you much credit. When I mention social constructs, one needs to realize these emerge from the genetic complexity. To put it better: emergence arises from the intercommunication of simple building blocks (genes). AI is a fine example. Your claim that homosexuality is unnatural does not hold.
Second, if you look into scientific literature observant of the bonobo species, homosexual behavior is a strong ...
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (2/2) indicator of robust way of avoiding conflict in a non-reproductive manner. It would be a good starting point to explore the merits of homosexual behavior.
Third, homosexuality does not inhibit heterosexual intercourse as pointed out earlier. The skewed notion that the ultimate criterion is reproduction is rather weak. Survival plays a huge role. That said, if you do the effort of looking at the dark side of religious conversion, you'd find heartbreaking stories too often.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers You consider man equal to an animal...if you feel nothing more than that, you're free to think so...but it's totally contrary to evidence that shows men are spiritual beings and not just like the animals...prehistorical men had religious feelings.
The fact that homosexual acts don't prohibit heterosexual intercourse does not make homosexual acts moral. A sexual act with an animal does not prohibit natural hetero intercourse either but this doesn't make sexual acts with animals moral
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) Define animal behavior. Is animal behavior universal throughout all species? You might want to think twice before attributing negative characteristics. As mentioned before, if you heap out all the garbage in religious doctrine, you retain aspects inherit to human nature. You simply allow religion to claim a monopoly on them they don't have.
Religious tendencies aren't a big surprise, but inexplicable phenomena don't always remain inexplicable do they? MRI scanning shows...
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (2/2) .. that deeply religious persons prohibit blood flow to certain brain regions (look up 'God helmet'). It's time to step off from this desire for irrationality and starting using our brains optimally. After all that's what has led to our advancement.
Lastly, I asked you to provide sound arguments why homosexuality is wrong, and you don't name any, not one. Your belief stems from a doctrine invented by humans, with no origin in any supernatural entity.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers I've already told you why homosexuality is not moral...natural law establishes it, not the Church...go read the past comments, if you don't like it fine but don't say i didn't give any explaination
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 No you have not. I've given indication as to why it is natural and presented the facts as they occur in nature. I highly doubt you've gone to research the role of homosexuality in bonobo species. Ignoring evidence is too common among believers. Natural law establishes a role for homosexuality. Instead you try to walk your way around my demand for arguments. Again, give me sound arguments, you have not provided any.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers We're human beings, not bonobos...you said homosexuality has some positive aspects in human society, name them...things among humans are not exactly the same as in the animal world...you talk about human species as it were no different from animals...you would have more than a problem in defending your fundamental rights if we really used this idea.
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) Like I hinted earlier, go out and look for studies about homosexuality in species (including Bonobo). The evidence and observations on how they improve group dynamics is overwhelming. I've given some crude examples, but the only way you'll ever know is to find out yourself. Since you're a student, I would expect you to be independent. You can ask specifics, but don't demand in a condescending tone that the world needs to bundle it all together just for you.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers I guess you can't name one single positive aspect of homosexuality in human society cause you're still talking about apes only
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 Corna et al. 2004 (one of many)
Furthermore, I find your approach to be rather disturbing, it feels like your denying homosexuals their ability to love, have compassion and be humans, which they are. Tell me, does it give you a kick when you are allowed to profess your discriminatory behavior and tell homosexuals, they are bad? You wouldn't have a single argument to justify it, as you still haven't given reasons (I haven't countered) why homosexuality is unnatural.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers You're really boring, repeating over and over the same things without knowing what the christian doctrine really claims about homosexuality: homosexual acts are immoral because contrary to the natural laws that regulate human sexuality...this doesn't mean homosexuals are not persons or they're inferior or they don't deserve to be respected...they're children of God too but with disordered tendencies in their sexuality. Period...btw a tendency that can be corrected
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 If I were you I'd be bored to for not being able to provide arguments backed up by evidence. Perhaps you can break the cycle by giving some?
On homosexuality: Lev 20:13. Homosexuality is not immoral in the slightest sense, to say so implies it is had strong bad consequences.
Respect for homosexuals... sure wasn't always the case (Middle Ages, Nazi Germany was strong Catholic, ...). No wonder nobody takes you seriously.
Scientific literature backing up you correction claim?
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (2/2) Yes, we are animals. But... why is it that different animal species, behave differently? And... why is it that animal species more closer together on the evolutionary tree of life exhibit closely related behavioral patterns. Gee, I wonder why that is.
You, see aside from some mutations, the main difference between us and chimpanzees on the molecular level is the fusion of two chromosomes into chromosome 2, a chromosome closely linked to intelligence properties... (3/2)
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers So If someone decided to kill you or your mother or your best friend i guess you wouldn't condem that person to 30 years of jail..he's killed nothing but an animal...when you kill a pig, a cow, a chimpanzees you don't go to jail.
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 You seem rather daft on all the hints I've been giving. You see, when for example an individual from a closely related species to humans commit a murder inside his/her own community, you can bet he/she will not survive for long. That's nature.
Again, you lack every knowledge on what animal behavior implies, since you associate it with murder, rape, ... natural selection favors social interaction for our species (and others). I've pointed this out many times, read before posting.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (3/2) You're right that we are animals, including you. But you're not correct in stating that animal behavior does not imply emotions (ape species show emotions too), that animals can't reason (they can reason, in terms of short memory patterns cognition, chimpanzees outscore humans), or that moral values are not present (many species show altruism and other social skills). So go ahead, use it, but don't rape it... science will be there to shove the hard facts in your face.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Honestly, i have never met anyone who repented from converted to God. On the contrary, i know many people who regret to have spent many years of their lives away from God. The only dark side i see is the pride and hatred that lead many to hate their creator...some people have used religion to justify their terrible purposes, without a doubt but it's men's fault not religion itself. You said prove the existence of God...to look at the universe is sufficient to understand rationally
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 a rational being created and ordered it. But the best prove you can have is to try to call him to show you he really exists, if only you put aside your pride and hatred against religion.
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 If only you'd put aside your blind and stubborn belief, you'd see just how puny and unstable the foundation of your religion is. You'd see it for what it really is, a machine to let individuals gain control over masses by preying on their weakness, undeserved control.
Do proceed with laying down more worthwhile arguments to argument for the possibility of a supernatural creator. Cause so far, there is none on the table.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers I've experienced God in my life, i've seen how life completely changes with or without Him...and no scientific experiment is needed for that. If you think science is enough for you i surely won't be the judge of your life but please stop considering believers stupid and blind...you can leave without science but not without love
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 The correct thing to say is that you hallucinate and have an unhealthy desire and try to personalize a concept that is irrational to begin with. Your faith is based on the assumption present in a large community, which doesn't make it any more real. It remains irrational and with no shred of evidence backing it up. I challenge your religious beliefs, and I have all right to do so, they are immoral and untrue.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Believe me, i have no intention to force you to make you change your mind...God himself cannot do it...on the contrary i see a strong attempt on your part to convince me of your ideas, as if you couldn't stand the fact that many many people still strongly believe in God in the 3rd millennium. Just curious...did God do anything bad to you to provoque such a reaction??
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) I believe you, I also believe you have all intention to not let the truth reach your mind at all costs. My arguments have been well placed and backed up with evidence in many cases, yours weren't.
How could I hate something that doesn't exist? What I do hate is the gullible mindset of humans, quite a bad remnant of evolution, but history has proven many times that natural selection weeds out the gullible. Another thing I hate is the greed of man leading to the smart idea ...
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Wow...your beliefs in evolution are perfect to back up racism...religious people are a bad remnant of evolution..they should be eliminated...most crimes of xx century were precisely based on the theory of evolution and you dare talk about the huge benefits of it. I really pity you
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 Straw man and ad hominem argument, I was wondering when you'd start cracking. Evolution is not a belief system, it is a (powerful) theory describing reality, it is not a worldview. Firstly, there is no such thing as race (define it for me). Secondly, evolution is largely dependent on diversity, which is contradictory to racism, you've made a false accusation. If you know anything about evolution, you'd know it is contrasting to eugenics. Do some research next time.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (2/2) ... to start a religion so they can make money off of the gullible. Happens all the time, and everywhere. You honestly don't think cults are meant to help people, are you? They're here to extort. And if they can keep themselves alive, by allowing its members to support each other in their delusion, they've happy to do so. Again: AJ Miller (Queensland, Australia), and example out of many. Religion has nothing to say on science, morality, sexuality, ...
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers The one who started christianity was killed on a cross, lived a whole life in poverty and served the neighbour...he made no money at all from religion...his apostles had the same destiny and many christians do the same today...i'm a christian, so if you want to talk to me talk about Jesus not aj miller etc...
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 That's the myth, and you have no evidence to back it up. And the bible does tell us some details on money (Luke 8:3, John 12:6). Ministering by women, expensive oil treatments, seems to me he was living a good life. The only extra-biblical references to Christ have no weight or don't even give valuable information. There are no recorded miracles, nothing.
The AJ Miller issue was to draw an analogy to cult psychology. Christianity is a cult, and you have no counter evidence.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) "With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
The fact of the matter is: you haven't bothered reading the stories of people who had to endure religion in its true horrible form. If you choose to ignore those stories, I can not have respect for you.

@littlemary86 (2/2) ... vast complexity. You may have stared at the wonders of nature. But I've stared at both its wonders and the beauty of science explaining it. I appreciate the wonder of science to grant you insight into the most common, and the most complex phenomena.
No, I'm afraid your argument in by far insufficient, and but an emotional appeal to try and ignore the power of science to reveal the natural processes leading to life's diversity and cosmological beauty.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers I love science, it's a God given gift to understand and appreciate the beauty of creation...and it's a sufficient instrument to claim the existence of God...
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 Well, that's the easy way out isn't it? I known many just like you, saying how they 'love' science, yet never care to even look at what goes on in the scientific field. You haven't given arguments for the existence of god (though I asked for it), and you already go on about claiming it's god's gift. Your arguments are devoid of any logic reasoning, they can only arise from the mind of a simpleton who doesn't ask questions. I doubt you can tell me the principles behind evolution.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Yeah..everything we have is God's gift...the first one is life..and yes it's the only way out since we move on too different levels. Everyone's happy with his own, so what's the problem? at the end of our lives we'll find out who was right...better this way?
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) Again you use the false assumption that there is a supernatural force without arguing for its existence. No student should be this close minded. I find it mad to say that religion keeps a person happy, it is no different than saying that cocaine keeps a junk happy.
Here's some food for thought. History is riddled with charlatans trying to push new religions down people's throat. Some don't succeed and die out, either in tragedy or not. Some succeed and give rise to ...
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (2/2) ...
You still haven't got a shred.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 Given the massive amount of evidence breaking down religion, you hardly have a crutch to stand on and believe there is an afterlife. So this is the natural scenario:
When you die, it ends. As you slip away into nothingness, it becomes apparent that you have led a life in vain. Idolizing the invention of a bunch of deceivers to the heart. Perhaps you might find solace in your mind circumventing the realization you have thrown away your life and feel sadness. But it's still sad...
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers ''Given the massive amount of evidence breaking down religion'' if you're trying to convince yourself you're right it's ok...if you think you may touch my faith with this made up phrase, try something better.
If this is the way of reasoning of atheists, faith brings people to reason much better: if i slip away into nothingness when i die how can i be aware of having lived in vain?? some part of my being must survive to have this kind of consciousness...does it make sense?
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) First off, I'm not trying to convince you, I'm simply giving you the fact, whether you like it or not. Christianity is form of plagiarism of other religions in nearby geographical areas (Egypt, ...), including virgin birth, resurrection story, ... I expect you to ignore it, as you're programmed to avoid and deny information.
The fact that studies have shown faith/religion to negatively correlate with reason/education and the scientific landmarks have been made in absence ...
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Christianity derives from Judaism, jews were so jalous of their God in opposition to the pagan gods of the nearby populations they would have never allowed pagan elements to enter their religion...Jesus' apostles were jews and so all the first christians. You really don't know what you're talking about
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 And the elements of virgin birth and resurrection, and sun god are shared among other religions closely situated in time and geographical area. It's been well documented, you're just reluctant to read up on history. I know rather well what I'm talking about, because I know if it, you seem to be the one in ignorance here. Probably the third time I have to encourage you to study some more.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers I don't care a thing of what your opinion on me is...are you hapy with your beliefs in science alone, evolution, death=turning into nothing, man=animal...go for it!!! i'll leave you the last word sure it'll make you happy...i have much more useful things to do with my time. Goodbye
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 I'm simply pointing out your misrepresenting science and even lying about it. I gave you the burden of proof and instead of coming up with arguments you told straight lies and tried to work your way out in an emotional way. It just shows that Catholicism has no form grasp on reality, they ought to disband and stop leeching on children and emotionally sensitive people. Same for all other cults and religions (which are basically big cults... breaking up into multiple denominations).
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (2/2) of faith, just shows how wrong you are.
As for your remark, I explicitly stated that you might be able to avoid the crude realization of your wasted life (perhaps try and read better next time?). But does it make your lifestyle any more justified? You don't want to visualize the scenario, since it is one where you might have doubts about your religion. That's the fear factor stops you from going further. I'd expect a student to ponder on, not shut off immediately.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers If i won't be able to realize i was wrong in believing in God i'm not taking any grave risk, after all faith helped me to endure great sufferings for which many unbelievers commit suicide...it was a useful tool for my life..even if imaginative..on the contrary, if you're the one who's wrong then you're risking much more, you're risking your eternal destiny. But i guess you are not honest enough to admit it to yourself
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 Pascal's wager. You insult many non believers that do not commit suicide and many believers that do commit suicide. Atheist dominant countries have some of the best statistics in the world when it comes to poverty, criminality, etc...
Again, you have no evidence whatsoever that your religion isn't a scam (there is much supporting it to be a scam). Basically I'm more honest admitting I choose not to support a tyrant, but to be righteous and oppose.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers believe me...God converts hearts not men
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/1) On this comment: prove me god is real. Then we can start talking about hearts and other stuff. And no, I won't believe you. I want falsifiable logic that can be tested, and not the same emotional appeals that started the whole mess called religion.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (2/2) Perhaps you'd like to give more elaborate reasons to regard homosexuality as bad? Religious conversion as a method is potentially harmful way of forcing someone to accept an already unjustified belief. In the majority of cases it does not work, instead leaving a living person behind as broken or worse... dead. If you also support the Pope's contraception policy, I advise you to defend that position to the people in Kenya, where outbursts of HIV infections have occurred.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Really, to say the pope and the Church are guilty of HIV infections is either be ignorant or just in bad faith...the purpose of the Church is to remind God's plan on human sexuality...the pope does not say have sex whenever you want but don't use condoms...he says not to have multiple sexual partners and be faithful to your wife/husband. If everybody put into practice the catholic morality on sexuality AIDS would totally disappear!!
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 First of all, the Church does not have the authority to dictate sexual behavior. Secondly, human nature prevails over doctrines, always has always will. What matters is sex education and availability of contraceptives. Human rights organizations have to go to great lengths pushing through, and the main opposition comes from churches, which could do more effort spreading Sex. Ed.
Before making claims, you should at least browse through official reports, such as those of UNAIDS.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers The problem with people like you is that you don't care a thing about the morality...the only thing that counts is have sex whenever you want without getting deseases...the purpose of the CHURCH is not this one...the problem with you is that you hate God and its commandments and try to justify immoral behaviours. Good luck
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 At this point I'm pretty fed up with you. As a challenge I asked you to describe me animal behavior, you'd come to the conclusion it's not all centered around 'negative characteristics', and that what is considered moral comes about in nature (you'd be surprised the similarities between us some animal species concerning altruism). You've ignored to do so. You have set up another straw man argument. Then you go on about launching ad hominem attacks, which was to be predicted.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Don't you think an open mind as you claim you are should also consider the possibility you're the one who's wrong? i took into consideration your idea of death=end of everything...and i answered...now you should do the same with mine.
Since you like logic so much, you said you're fed up with me so why are you continuing to reply to me and challenge me?
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (1/2) You didn't take mine into consideration (see previous posts). Anyway, given that all claims the bible makes related to the natural world, have been mercilessly disproved, we can explain nature far better, protect ourselves from diseases, find contradictions and loopholes in the bible, uncover the history behind the sham that is Christianity, I argue that the burden of proof lies with religion. In 2000 years, you have only a tradition, but no evidence in favor of a god at all
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (2/2) Simple, you're close minded. All you claims had no evidence to back you up, and you're parroting what you've been taught by your environment and church. Your arguments weren't arguments to begin with, just infantile attempts.
Now, probabilities aside, I'll answer you: the god you worship, like many others is a jealous, murderous, immoral god (read the bible). So if I'd appear for him and the description matches, I'd spit on him, not only to insult him but also to avoid (3/2)
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers The only evidence i have and i can offer to others is the PERSONAL experience of the risen Christ i have had in my life...i don't care if it doesn't have a scientific explaination...it deals with my spiritual being and science cannot do experiments with it, so hard to understand this difference?
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 Ah yes, personal experience. Cause if you've 'experienced' (hallucinated) a rabbit with lasers as eyes and wearing Prada shoes singing Beethoven 7th symphony, it makes all the more true, doesn't it? Believe all you want, just know it has no evidence supporting it and you're participating in a delusion, which you cannot justify.
Too bad the same difference you advocate doesn't hold, as it would imply that your spiritual beliefs can not manifest themselves to you.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@littlemary86 (3/2) ... being stuck for an eternity in a place riddled with many of the dumbest and most intolerant people on Earth. I'd rather spend eternity in hell, alongside people that have made great advances in science, society, etc... who are able to love one another, not out of fear for god, but out of empathy. But that were still banned, simply for not petting the ego of god. I'll be joined by the countless babies that dies prematurely and people of other religions.
avdmeers 5 months ago
@avdmeers Well, be sure you'll go there...God respects your will. You really know NOTHING about catholicism, you talk out of ignorance otherwise you would know aborted babies go to heaven, people of other religions can go to heaven and people with false love of God won't. Study better the cathechism and after that comment
littlemary86 5 months ago
@littlemary86 Yes, except there is no hell, and no heaven. Again, the burden of proof lies with religion.
I was raised Catholic, I've plowed through the bible and know my fair share of religion. No need to set up an act, sunshine. Secondly, tell me where the bible says aborted babies go to heaven, and Gentiles. The bible contradicts you, so try and study up on the bible.
avdmeers 5 months ago

Most important, don't mix fanatics with all the others
littlemary86 5 months ago
