  • Nice music from A Space Odyssey there.

  • :o ... i live in ohio

  • This and KC Munchkin came out at the same time. They were part of an attempt by Magnavox to up the quality of their games and for a while it worked. They were generally better than any of the Atari games that were out at the time. They also had their Master Strategy games, like Quest for the Rings and some stock market sim (that didn't work so well, the market always seemed to bottom out to zero in like 20 or 30 minutes).

  • 2:12 - Those exciting screenshoots, man!!!

I know, i know... but still i have seen much better back covers for same old games. Maybe it's the black all over.

  • basterds i though it was the reveiw for Freedom Fighters on the ps2

  • Duh! You missed the best part of this game. Of course it´s not meant to be played with two joysticks AT THE SAME TIME. What happens if you use joystick 2 is that the game turns into a defender scrolling game. When I was a child and I played it and discovered that using the second joystick I had a completely different game... I freaked out. Otherwise... great review!

  • They covered up what really happened: The Pulsar Empire only attacked the humans because the humans (this is set in the future, obviously) had forced them to watch endless repeats of "Angela Anaconda" and "Pink Lady and Jeff". So it is very understandable that they attacked.

  • AWWWW MAN TRICKERY!!!

  • That looks like such a cool game. The two joystick option is definitely a homage to Eugene Jarvis' Robotron 2084 which was released the same year as this game and had an identical control method. That's quite impressive of the programmers to include it on a home machine back then.

I think the men trapped in blocks is a homage to the ending of the Sci-Fi flick Dark Star. Anyone who's seen it will instantly know what I mean. I liked your use of the Blue Danube as a tribute to 2001 :)

  • OH and Angry Video Game Nerd is still better

  • @happychristmas1945 Nobody cares

  • @happychristmas1945 I will have to disagree with you on that. Besides, it's like comparing Super Mario Brothers with Call of Duty

  • @XxxGamer5641xxX Yeah. And Super Mario Bros still wins. CoD is garbage.

  • @stnewton09 I would agree with that :D

  • Oh and Invaders from hyperspace also

  • U.F.O and cosmic conflict were great also

  • great review!! I had this game back in the day when it first came out, it was a great game and as near to playing defender in my own home as I could get at the time.

The downside was the console, they kept breaking! I had 3 of them, in the end my dad took it back and got a refund on it and got me a CB radio instead, still it was great while it lasted.

This is an awesome game and I would play it now happily, thanks for sharing!!

  • Please review Granny's Garden for BBC Micro / Commodore 64

  • TRANSFORMERS WAR FOR FUCKING CYBERTRON damnit man you have to review this it is amazing best transformer/ shooter game I have ever fucking played and it is so close to the G1 it is hard to believe also I have no Nostalgic connection to G1 because I am not that old but let me tell you this forgives what Micheal bay did and should forgive him up until the credits of the next movie but I did watch most of the series and I can tell you it is better than those movies.

  • @NexusARC just in casae you havent seen it he has cant rember how long ago now but he did it

  • I recently watched this review and immediately found Freedom Fighters on Ebay for a very nice price. As soon as I got this game I played it for hours.

  • This game was okay, but I enjoyed UFO! more. The ship could shoot in almost any direction and it could ram passersby when the shield was charged.

  • Greeeaat game, I think! ^^

  • CGR isn't cool, isn't even awesome, it's Radical!

  • I don'tm know why, but I think to Monkey Island when I hear the sound effects of this game. However, I think the hyperspace mode could be good for Multiplayer. But that "Earth Federation"... and the Pulsar "Empire"... Perhaps Freedom Fighter is sat in the same storyline of that Odyssey 2 game called Cosmic Conflict!

  • you should review freedom fighters for ps2

  • @gunairsoft Ps2/GameCube

  • Should i get this or a ps3 slim?

    :)

  • ps4... i reccomend

  • this... it's that damn good...

  • This.

  • So, I was a big Defender fan and an O2 owner when I read about this game. I went down to my Magnovox dealer (the only place you could actually get the games where I lived), and they had it - for $59.99!

Was it worth more than the usual $49.99... Sort of. It certainly was one of the better games made for the O2 - but I think the over-$50 price tag was WAY over the top.

I didn't buy it that day, but a few days later I got an Atari 400 computer. Games were cheaper on comps - and better!

  • wow i want it now!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i think ill get an o2 for that game

  • loved this gam as a kid

  • Dude, I live in ohio !

    Good video .

  • I've seen Magnavox batteries in Denmark

  • "Zaxxun"

  • This might be the first bullet hell game.

  • MELECT GAME

  • HAHAHA.

2:30 and on is awesome. haha.

    "Unique space conflict simulation!"

    "Full sync sound"

  • Nice rendition of Strauss :)

  • Always nice to see the O2 get the credit it deserves, but just to add some info to this review. There is also a variation in which you acquire points by evading the enemy. (Though you are unable to fire.) The hyperspace control works best when you play with another person who basically helps you speed away when you get in a jam. The game increases in speed every 100 points and it gets pretty fast. I have never been able to get past 300 points

  • what is the song at 0:17 ???

  • Yeah. I'd like to know that too.

    It's awesome.

  • "It's impossible not to think of Superman 2 when I see those things" FUNNY! That's what I was thinking too when you were showing the box. As always, a 5 star video.

  • You know there's a game called Freedom Fighters On the PS2 .

    It's an EA Gta-like game .

My friend bought it but it sucked so he sold it.

  • Yeah another O2 review! I love when you go through the instruction manual. Marketing genius at its best. "Full Sync sound action."

They didn't half ass this sh!t.

  • My uncle had a fully functional Odyssey 2 with 9 games that where all complete (original boxes too) and in excellent condition.

Then he sold it for $10 in a garage sale without asking me if I wanted it :(

  • $10? You can get up to £150 for one now, in dollars, about $260.

  • I realize it could have sold for a lot more.

I was just sad he didn't let me make an offer. I would have paid a $100 easy. He didn't even tell me he had planned to sell it. I stopped buy his house and found out he sold it the previous weekend. Very sad day.

  • HALF LIFE REVIEW PL0X!!

  • Long live the Odyssey 2!!! You seem to have a love for it more than I did :)

  • Lol my state = EXPLODEDED!

  • mine too! that sux! lol

  • hahaha lol

  • that looks quite fun :O

  • what is your theme song? It's catchy :)

  • always good too fight for freedom :)

  • If Fire Fighters fight fires and Crime fighters fight crime What do freedom fighters fight?

  • FREEEEEEDDDDDDDOOOOOOOOOM

  • they fight for freedom :D

  • no...ohio

  • Freedom Fighters in hd? Are you a blooming idiot?

  • funny thing is magnavox is a company that's still around lol

  • Magnavox doesn't exist as a company any more. Phillips uses the brand to sell budget electronics. The original Magnavox is long gone.

  • ummm yes it is magnavox is still one of the leaders in electronics the tv i just recently bought was fro magnavox

  • Actually it's from Phillips, they just use the brand. Magnavox as a company no longer exists.

  • Magnavox makes DVD players lol

  • Magnavox exists, but only as a trademark. I think Phillips still own it, and brand some of there DVD Players as "Magnavox" in North America.

  • the ps2 also have a game called freedom fighters you should check it out. but its does not have the same epic plot like the o2 version

  • The description in the back sounds near epic.

  • "If you have an O2..". SO that's whose

been advertising on the player's shirts

at soccer stadiums. Players in the

    English Premiereship are sponsored

by Magnavox. Mark you unearth such

obscure truths in this show. I just

had to make the connection and there

it was. Nice review too. The game

    looks really smooth and fluid.

  • Thanks for the other Peggle review. I am totally addicted to that game now. Wow.

  • never heard of a magnavox.... when was it out?

  • he did a rewiev. search

  • cheers

  • The first Magnavox Odyssey was the first game console ever, released in 1972. The Odyssey 2 (this console being reviewed) was released in 1978.

  • cheers mate.

  • Excellent review!! You are the man!!

  • listen to Viva la vida while playing this game :P

  • freedom fighters, that reminds me of sonic satam

  • cgr rules!

  • amen

  • waa, theres another freedom fighters???? what about the one in new yorkXD

  • YARRRR

  • Aha.

  • you can try using your foot to hold them both down and use other foot to hit fire lol

  • You need to do Freedom Fighters for Gamecube ;)

  • yeah that game was fantastic

  • freedom fighters for the cube was an fantastic multiplayer titel.

  • Ya Freedom Fighters on Gamecube was the best! I never knew this one existed.

  • oh man, this brings back memories. I loved this game.

  • "Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight?"

  • This game looks cool; I might get an O2, I just don't know yet...

There's a game called "Freedom Fighters" on PS2 which is essentially "RED DAWN: THE VIDEOGAME". It's EA's best game after the original Road Rash, in my opinion.

  • omg i stll have that to

  • Freedom Fighters!, isn't really the name of this game. It would be more like "Sky Attack!" cause freedom fighters is more like a WW1/2 kinda name.

  • Full sync sound action? You know, after seeing the AVGN's video about the original Odyssey, and that the machine would only put three blips onscreen, no sound, and you had to put an overlay on the television screen, advertising that there's actually sound that syncs up with the graphics makes sense.

  • LOL @ The Graphics In The Manual Looking Better Than The Actual Game

  • LOL, true.

  • Mark is life!

  • Neat. Looks like fun.

  • I like old school games but that one looks like it would get boring quick. In fact, just watching it was a little boring. Did the challenge level increase the more you played? that might make it playable.

  • great review as always

  • You did some crazy evading, going right through groups of enemys, I thought you were gonna get hit a couple times

  • yeah. it sorta does look like defender. but odd enough i first thought of Asteroids. god i love that game.

this game seems so awsome i want it now. just watching this gameplay i get really into it and ever say, "damm!" when he get's blown up, like i was the one playing it.

  • i was hoping for the ps2 game with the awesome sound track

  • I love this game. I got it recently with my odyssey and loved it.

  • COOL

  • to me it looks kind of like defender for the 2600

  • NOOO IM IN OHIO :C

    5/5

  • me 2 :O

  • Excellent review Mark!

  • SATAM

  • when will HD be up, i'm dying to see this in HD

    cmon youtube process it!!

  • Takes about about 1-3 hours after posting.

  • Yeah geez, it's not that long. Why do people still post these questions? Or questions like: do I need to play the first in the series?

Anyways.....I love to see another O2 review and you can tell Mark enjoys talking about these old school games.

  • not for me 15-20 minnutes

  • cool

  • Shame you didn't watch the video before posting.
