You would think by looking that it's too tight. But you have to remember how snug they are in the womb. If that swaddle was any looser than that, he was able to squirm his way out, which you want to keep from happening. If you read the book, he says the most common reason swaddling doesn't work for people when and if they try it, is that they do it too loose and then it doesn't work. That blanket in particular was actually made of a stretchy material, so you had to pull it even tighter.
Hah! If you want to see a happy husband, you should see him after the kids go to bed. He is very involved though. Our boys are very lucky. You can really see the difference in children's development when they have an involved father. It's sad that so many men have to be macho or whatever it is. I think they're too embarrassed when they get teased by friends for wearing the baby in a sling, changing diapers, etc. To me, seeing men have confidence and know how to take care of a baby is sexy.
Hah! You think that's bad. You should hear his little brother... and swaddling didn't work for him like it did with our first. I now have the opinion that "The Happiest Baby on the Block" method doesn't work on all babies.
That blanket was AWESOME! Does anyone know where I can get one? And to lebouefgraphics, how roomy is YOUR uterus? Baby's are "swaddled for 9 months and then removed from their "safe" environment. For baby's, a snug swaddle is a safe swaddle.
Ditto for me - that's not too tight. One reason alot of people have problems with swaddling is that they swaddle way too loose and baby easily wiggles out and doesn't feel secure. I could see that blanket was stretchy (and stretchy blankets need to be wrapped tighter than say a woven flannel) and it looked just right to me.
speaking from a lot of experience (im due to have my ninth baby) you did well Dad nothing wrong with that wrap.. baby seemed very settled and secure & when they are secured like that they feel much happier. Nice looking wrap too. Ill look at getting one for our next baby.
