somehow i think the RRT4 (Ridge Racer Type 4)'s intro its better for me

This intro was such a letdown in comparison to R4 intro.

First we got that cool intro.

Then we got hints of what Reiko could look like rendered in real time in the 1999 PS2 tech demo before the system was released.

Then they scrapped all that and made a whole new character no one asked for and a shorter less impressive intro than the last with forgetful music. Blah!

although the game lacked gameplay the graphics are a big step up from the ps1 games. either way, R4 will still always be the most remembered game due to its LOOONG Gameplay, vast car selection, and the best part, the opening movie

You know I have to agree RR4 was better. RR5 was not as much fun. I think RR6/RR7 are somewhat in the right direction. I wish they would remake RR Type 4 with new graphics for the PS3. Still RR5 is a classic launch title for the PS2.

Actually the model has more polygons than any other character ever had on the PS2 system in my opinion. Surely that was because she was just for show off. Anyway, it bothered me that you could never get to see the model in the game again, except for that shadow image.

I don't know why but I was unable to get into this RR, I really loved this series on the PS1 it was so much gameplay. I just couldn't get into this part which was a shame.

Heh, I still remember the game was a CD ROM as it was an early game on the PS2, the CD's spin much faster than DVD's. Due to this the noise the drive made added to the engine noise ; )

me too i get this game in a cd not dvd and after i turn the game on that loud noise scared me to death and i thought that my ps2 had some problems reading cd's then i relize that it's the speed of the spinning of the cd disc's.

In it's defense, it used the natural rendering potential of the PS2 for these graphics instead of a pre-rendered cutscene.

However, I still favor the type 4 and PSP intros as well

When I saw the PS2 demo back in 1999 thew showed a (Maybe)real-time gorgeous rendered Reiko Nagase...Sony promised too much, I was so excited to play RRV back then...

But instead they sent this horrid piece of junky racing game with awful controls and jagged graphics with this ugly bitch Ai Fukami (whatever) Since it's a low quality video it hides the jaggies and the low-rez artefacts, (it´s so jagged my eyes hurt!) so you can't judge how AWFUL the real thing is, unless vou've played the game!

this is a first gen ps2 game actually ps2 is way capable of running ai fukami and the cars at the same time however this hole opening is made with the same in game graphics i remember having a game magazine showing some image of RR5 saying that this game going to lanch with the same date of lanching the ps2 and they say it's actually to show what the ps2 can really do in his erly first games i think this game is using a 40 or 50 % of the ps2 hardware capeabilty.

You are right, the real -time opening is the only thing that actually eats some of the power in PS2. It is shame most developers did not bother detailed real -time characters as seen on this game or The Bouncer. PS2 was capable PSone FMV quality real -time visuals, but because PS2 could draw so much but texture so little, only certain type of games can use the power inside PS2.

RR 2 on PSP really isnt the second game... Namco America wanted to mess with the title and numbers. Ridge Racer on PSP was really titled Ridge Racers in Japan so that it didn't sound like it was the first game.
