Agreed i was very very very disappointed when Quake 4 had no decent combat tracks...

but overall i cant hate quake 4 except for the lame variety of strogg and level design was just plain booring and awful compared to quake 2...

the hyperblaster and rail guns in quake 4 sucked ass big time... i miss the whine of the old QUake 2 Hyperblaster.

i miss fighting the old TANKS...

now quake 2 with the doom3 engine...thats what i would love to see :)

IMO, ID really crapped out with doom 3 and quake 4. There is no more fast paced running, blowing strogg into bits of gore at 100 mph, or insane miniguns that blow through 200 rounds in 5 seconds. What the heck happened? The turned the series into a boring, tactical mess!

That tactical stuff is meant for human-human fighting, so it's good against Tactical Transfers and Z-Secs. BUT ONLY THEM. When you have a Berserker on Pinky running your way, it gets Ninja Gaiden hard.

I personally didn't have a problem with the road id took with Doom 3 and Quake 4. The narrative elements may have been a little too subtle (especially since they went for a more horror/story-oriented approach) but the overall game play was good. Definitely a few notches slower than its predecessors, but it still remains fun nonetheless. Even if I still prefer Quake 2, I find both D3 and Q4 to be worthy additions to their franchises.
