everyone keeps talking about how "in Jamaica" and shit this is. And what its all about. This song was written by Dandy in ENgland where he moved when he was like 15.
I didn't know A Message to you Rudy was a cover until now haha. I love this version but the memories I have of The Specials version aren't going to budge easily so I still have my personal favourite ;)
@mp2611 My biggest surprise was hearing Al Capone for the first time and recognizing the beat from Gangsters. As you said, they are both great, but the Specials are never going to be topped.
@coolpopcornful Rudy is Jamaican slang for like a skinhead (original, NOT Nazi) or someone like that. They are known for being rowdy and causing trouble. That's what this song is about.
@Deanbass77 "Rudy" is simply Jamaican patois for 'someone who is rude'. Nothing more or less. It's been in use far longer than this classic song, let alone this genre.
@Deanbass77 Rudy is slang for gangster, JA is an extremely violent country with shooting deaths occurring all the time (even Bob Marley was shot) and in the 60's it was really bad so the government asked musicians to write songs deterring violence. This song is about throwing your life away in jail if you don't wise up and change your ways. There is no Jamaican slang for Skinhead, in Jamaica their is more songs about skinheads than there is about rudies. Search Skinhead Reggae.
Great tune man. I grew up litsening to this tune, I really like this particular cut. The Specials and Judge Dread also did good versions of this song as well. But this one wins it for me. Cheers!!
this was the last song played recently at a party i was at.....what a great choice!!!!!!! just made everyone smile and brought everyone back down to earth somewhat!!! xx
@TheTrecoollover forgive me if i'm mistaken, but i think its not to one specific individual as such but just generally the "Rude Boys" (and girls) getting into trouble and crime etc so kinda like just telling them to straighten up and think of your future etc before you mess it up...
bless this guy and bless you for uploading!

Great song,..I only knew it from the Specials' version. Wonder what the story is behind it..was it about him, or a friend of his? Anybody know?
