The point of what I was saying was that aid only goes so far, but that unless there is an internal resolution to this conflict, any foreign aid only provides a temporary fix for the thousands of displaced peoples. I am not a hypocrite in any sense of the word - I don't believe that there should be Western dominance in African or Middle Eastern countries, but there needs to be a solution to the fighting and destruction in Darfur - do you have any solutions??
A key problem with Darfur is that while we can provide international aid and help with the tragedy as it unfolds, what steps have to be taken to rectify this situation properly? The political, tribal and religious situation of Darfur and Sudan is so immensely complicated that effective "peace deals" are very hard to bring about.

The point of what I was saying was that aid only goes so far, but that unless there is an internal resolution to this conflict, any foreign aid only provides a temporary fix for the thousands of displaced peoples. I am not a hypocrite in any sense of the word - I don't believe that there should be Western dominance in African or Middle Eastern countries, but there needs to be a solution to the fighting and destruction in Darfur - do you have any solutions??

Unfortunately this video sounded too upbeat for the realities of what is happening there. Do the research, go the aide organizations and you can read what it is really like there. As much good as IMC has done there it will never be enough until the politics are resolved. It is a bandaid on a large wound. I am a teacher and I am teaching my students about what is going on there and my students are doing fundraisers to help and writing letters to enact change. More needs to be done!

Do u think if people like Oprah Winfrey, Shaquille O'Neal, the Williams sisters, P. Diddy, Jamie Foxx, Chris Tucker, Halle Berry, Eddie Murphy, other black entertainers, other black athletes,...were to do with one fewer mansion, one less luxury car, less jewelry, less designer duds,...that if they were to contribute that money that they would be able to help many African countries. They need to really help and not just give a drop in their buckets, which is what they've been doing.

I could not possibly agree more. They only donate to help them sleep at night. Think about it, think about how many billionaire and millionaire CEOs, celebrity, politicians ect there are... I mean there is no justification in not helping when you have that kind of money.
I mean what, would these rich people really be hurting if they lived off say... $100,000 a year? That is a god damn GREAT wage, ANYONE can live VERY comfirtably with that kinda money.

As for your asking whether I've contributed, how can you ask me to contribute when I am two paychecks away from bankruptcy, and when it obviously doesn't bother you that Oprah is donating pennies? Keep in mind that to people like Oprah, millions are like pennies; they're a drop in her many buckets. Perhaps you have to be poor to understand what I've said.

If you cannot contribute, than quit whining about other people not contributing. Yes, it sucks that there are people who have much much more money than you and I, but that's life for you. Get over it. Just because you're two paychecks away from bankruptcy doesn't mean you're poor, it means that you're inadequate at handling your own finances. There is so much opportunity in this country, and all you can do is complain about your own self-inflicted issues. I pity you.

I do understand your point, but as for myself, I value all human lives equally. I constantly strive to better the lives of everyone around me, be it family, friends, peers, or strangers. I also have a strong urge to travel to Sudan and help these people with my own hands. This injustice is apalling to me and I feel a responsibility to stop it.

Oprah isn't of the same religion as these people nor is she Sudanese, she is American. I'm not saying that Americans shouldn't be concerned, I'm just saying that it is absurd to expect contributions from a person just because of their skin color. That is racism, if not in a minor form. In reality, caucasian people are more to blame for this situation than African Americans. It was the Imperial Expansion of the Europeans into Africa that segregated Africa and caused this whole mess.
