  • Genial, muchas gracias.

  • I am following since always Ed but I have to say the here Barrett is spectacular!

  • The bassist is actually Squire Girsback, a fixture on the San Francisco scene for many years. You can tell he wasn't having much fun playing with Pops ;-) I don't know any musician who smiles as much as he is in this video.

  • Yes it is! William Girsback better known as Squire Gersh :)

  • does anyone know where i can find video of Paul Madison? A tenor and alto sax player who played in Hawaii? get at me.

  • Sorry I don't - have not even heard of him, there seems to be very little information on him

  • I know, and that's what has me concerned. It's like the media has silenced him. Thanks, and if you do hear anything, let me know.

  • @edmondhall Exactly! which is very concerning... You hear about everybody else, except him! But if you ask anyone who was on the music scene mid 80's... especially jazz... they know of him. He featured in a song from Doug MacDonald called "I've Got The Minor Blues".... This is freaky! Why has the media silenced him? I will get to the bottom of this. He was my Grand father and I've never even gotten to hear his music

  • Nobody better :)

    that's correct. YEAH!

  • i like the drummer

  • and trummy's solo is kickin

  • Barrett Deems - GREAT!

  • @edmondhall Barrett was amazing! I think one of the most underrated drummers to play Jazz.

  • Wow this is really cool!

  • Weren't they fanatstic? That band was (arguably) Louis' best outfit, a very driving and swinging one anyhow. Not wanting to take anything away from Jack Teagarden but Trummy Young was and always will be Armstrong's chief supporter, premier accompanist and right hand. Ed Hall fit so well in the All Stars, Billy Kyle as MD, "Squire Gersh", although no Arvell Shaw, did a good job and Barrett Deems...wow, what a drummer and showman...like all these great cats sadly overlooked and taken for granted.

  • Barrett Deems was the best all-star drummer only next to Cozy Cole who was still not at his best like in the 1960's.

Deems wasn't a flashy drummer like Krupa or Rich but held it down good and when he wanted could do the flashy stuff as well.

  • to me it seems louis really grasped the element of "Climatic tension" , then when it all comes lose baby , trummyyoung and ed hall are blowing there ass's off,,,,there such good players, more so ed lol

  • Absolutely correct!

You guys hit it right on the target with your comments - thanks very much for all your guys' great input!

  • Hi Its great to see clips of All you fellows playing again

  • Yeah it's great! they were and always will be- the best

  • The bassist is William Girsback aka Squire Gersh, not Arvell Shaw. CBS-TV "Ford Star Jubilee - You're the Top", Oct. 6, 1956.

  • that's correct it's not Arvell on this setting, My mind is just too focused on Arvell playing Bass with the all stars - Thanks for letting me know, I fixed it in the info write-up

  • We ve lived it,we ve felt it,we ve dream it,we are grateful to them in heaven..rest in peace with jazz.MAX
