  • Traditional Esquire Switching: Does that mean that it has the infamous "Mud Setting."

  • @Hoopermazing Never mind... I see that it does.

  • Have you ever compared that pickup to regular Tele singlecoil?

  • @jeTTa002 Yes - I have compared it to a regular Tele-single coil bridge pickup. In fact, three of my other videos use Tele pickups. The Filtertron is not quite as bright, has a little more midrange, and is very quiet. It handles gain extremely well - sounds absolutely great IMHO with a medium-hot level of gain.

  • gREAT VIDEO DEMO. tHANKS.......QUESTION IF I MAY ? IS THAT A START NECK ON YOUR TELE ? iF SO, I WAS THINKING OF BOLTING ONE ON ONE OF MY TELE'S FOR A WIDER STRING SPACING FOR MY FAT FINGERS. ANY IDEAS ARE WELCOME. THANKS AGAIN FOR SHARING YOUR GUITAR TONES ETC. ROCK ON !!!!! BILL

  • @BILLYBOBSTUNES Thanks Bill! I still love this guitar! The neck in the video was off a cheap Tele-copy called something like NY Jr. It was okay for a while, but now I have an Allparts TRO-22 neck on it that I love. It's a little wider than a standard Tele neck, and nice and chunky.

  • I have a BEAUTIFUL figured-ash SVK Thinline/Custom hybrid...the stock humbuckers are just dark, muddy.......BLEH, in definitive terms, LOL. Tried a guitar similar in layout to yours today...think I may have found this guitar's salvation yet with some 'Trons...

  • @bowslap Gotta love the tone from the Filtertrons! And the Gretsch ones are reasonably priced too.

  • At the end of the video I was playing the opening riff from Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh. The other stuff was just noodling.

  • were you playing party in the USA?

  • I've not heard better tone from any type of guitar/pickup combination. Your licks were just right to illustrate the tone as well. I wonder--is that a relatively recent HS Filtertron or a TV Jones pickup? Thanks for the demo.

  • @blowinviper Wow - thank you for the kind words. This guitar still does it for me! And the neck and bridge upgrades only improved it more. The Gretsch Hi-Sens Filtertron seemed relatively new - it still had a lot of wax coming out from the pole piece screws when I got it.

  • I'm planning a build.. a la cab clone.. and these pickups are perfect! thanks for a great demo!

  • @lowfatberryblue Thanks, Man - glad you like it!

  • Very very very cool guitar, strat hardtail bridges never seem to get the recognition they deserve! Which caps and resistors did you use to get that dark tone in the forward position?

  • @cowie86 It's a standard Fender Esquire wired control circuit that I got from dbg-guitar ... the Fender normal 0.05 uf caps and 3.3K resistor. I normally wire my own controls, but this one was a good deal and the Fender Esquire components have a deservedly good reputation.

  • Beautiful guitar. Sounds great too. Well done! I'm having a TV Jones Filtertron fitted to an Ibanez RS 315. Should sound similar, hopefully.

  • very nice

  • @menga111 Thank you - it actually just keeps getting better, too. I got lucky with this one.

  • Simple, but elegant axe! Nice job. Loving that Filtertron tone. Strat headstock is a nice twist.

  • @SingleMaltDrinker Thanks! I've recently replaced the neck with a 22-fret Allparts maple/rosewood Tele neck. It's a fantastic neck and really completes the guitar. I liked the Strat-style headstock as well, but this new neck is much nicer.

  • How that guitar got that amount of sustain!

    I want to know!

  • @surfco - I think it's the Northern Ash body. It's mostly a one-piece, and the board was flatsawn, rather than quartersawn. So, the body has got this super-resonant sound wave-conducting characteristic. Think of the flat grain connecting the neck and bridge in one plane - and the strings vibrate along that same plane. That's my theory anyways!

  • Dude! I gotta get one of those!

    How much?

    LOL just kidding.

It'll be interesting that you get into the guitar building for others if you will stuff.

  • That dark vintage with gain has some nasty bite. Really cool guitar.

  • @Tyler18GoPhils - Thank you!

  • WOW. You did a great job on that wood, my jaw dropped when you said it was handcarved. Great tones, I'm diggin' it!

  • Thank you - the wood is not really carved - I used a hand-held router and hand held power drill and sander. No table router, and no drill press or expensive tools.

I've got a nice neck and upgraded bridge on the way next week - can't wait!
