  • I think he did a great job adding his own interpretation while still capturing the incredible melancholy and vulnerable expression of Bjork's original. Two thumbs up to both artists!

  • In my opinion the best covers re-imagine a song rather than try to replicate them. The new artist brings their own interpretation, soul and feelings to the piece and in the process produces a new piece of art. When someone tries to replicate a song you tend to end up with a dodgy karaoke version or something like those insipid compilation albums by Telstar in the 70s for people too poor to buy the originals...:)

  • Thom did his best but Bjorks vocals are just too pure and unique to do a cover and do it justice , he gets a 5 for effort, I agree with Ginovelez somethings cannot be replicated

  • Now if only they song a duet of this...pure bliss.

  • i want that vox mic. absolut killa.

  • The only person who can do Bjork justice.

  • Radiohead is my favorite band, but some things simply cannot be replicated.

  • un reverb.

  • @LivingwithoutAir912

if you're trying to say there's too much reverb, there most certainly isn't. in fact there's none of the vocals, and the instruments are clear

  • @LfunkeyA yup. you are right. the other person is wrong. have a thumb fellow muso.

  • @mykalmint400

i made a spelling mistake. also, my reply was more of an assumption.

  • @LfunkeyA oh okie dokey. have a thumb then.

  • Beautiful cover by my favourite band - music-wise I love this just as much as (possibly slightly more than) the original; however there is one thing that bothers me about this cover: which is the lyrics. Thom omits the lines, "so when you come back, we'll have to make new love." To me this makes the song feel a bit like an unfinished sentence - cut off. We are left with "He'll never return it.", and this gives it almost a different meaning, I think. But still a beautiful cover, nonetheless.

  • Well I love both just as much, cause they still sound so different to me, both lovely singers.

  • It's easy to say "Oh, I prefer the original" because the original is better. But, it's a good version.

  • """""n a webcast covered Unravel, which he previously has described as his favourite song ever."""""

    from bjorks web site...

  • according Bjork, Thom is supposedly her favorite male vocalist....

  • I love Bjork and I love Thom Yorke, so Thom Yorke singing my favourite Bjork song is pretty much heaven!!!!!

  • Love the simplicity of this version. But then again Thom can do no wrong music wise to me.

  • It's all about that ending, where everything just gets swept up in a simple, melancholy piano melody.

  • very beautiful!!!

the original touches me much more, it's so deep

but it's a really cool cover, especially because it has a different flavour and that in yorke style

    that's amzing!

  • I wonder why Thom didn't attempt the high note run that is present in the original?

  • @mathproof

Probably because they were all really trashed by then xD

  • @mathproof because he's awesome and he can do whatever he wants.

  • jeez, this is so good. he's amazing. she's amazing. great stuff ;)

  • Wow, what a hearfelt cover. Thom Yorke's voice is so sincere and fragile. He reminds me of Ray Davies, or of Pete Townshend singing his Tommy demos.

Huge Björk fan here, and I actually prefer this version to the original. :)

  • es genial esa vercion !!!! ...

    te amamos!

  • Has anyone else watched Anthony Green's version of Unravel? Am I missing something? People are saying its a better version! It is absolutely awful! Please dont tell me Im on my own in thinking this!

  • no one see that version please its horrific

  • I guess it would be a boring world if everyone agreed with one another wouldn't it? I still think this is a beautiful homage to Bjork.

  • BJORK IS GOD.

  • It's so easy to say "Oh, I prefer the original"... Thom has completely made this version his own. OPen your tiny mind haters!

  • eu não gostei, na verdade foi muito ruim...prefiro a original!

  • In my opinion, this is Thom showing his pure admiration for Bjork, this is his tribute to her. Beautiful.

  • magistral. sem mais comentários.

  • Have a Great Summer...Radiohead is here in NYC this August...can't wait!

    ...no hard feelings I hope.

  • "And if can only take Bjork's music in small doses it's because you haven't evolved musically enough. "

Ohhh, you know me THAT well, eh?

I've heard Björk's entire discography, including her output with Sugarcubes, and I do appreciate her a lot as an artist and love most of her work (Vespertine and Medúlla are my top favourite albums by her). Just because I don't listen to her every day of my life, doesn't mean I haven't evolved musically.

  • Who on earth was referring to you!

...unless of course you're" funktronique" from a few days ago.

I don't listen to her music everyday, but I can go into periods when I do,(the same with Radiohead, when Kid A first came out I killed that CD).

I think that Bjork has raised the standards of contemporary music because she challenges the listener to evolve musically. Just her use of ambient sounds on her tracks compels the listener to hear things that are not considered music musically.

    ..no offense

  • It was me who said that I like Björk in small doses, so I assumed your remarks were directed at me, no? :/ Nimes is in France.

I shagged Ricky Martin once. It made me realize what an authentic artist he is. Not really, but come on! What do Björk's looks have to do with her music? You arguments lost all credibility after you said that, because it revealed how infatuated you are with her. No offence...

  • Why can't a great artist be physically beautiful? Wow...talk about narrow minded! Must an artist, a female artist especially, be unattractive to be taken seriously? Like I had written in my post, she's prettier that I had thought which was surprising and very shy. I guess that I too was expecting someone a little more alien, but no she's a beauty...sorry to disappoint you.

  • That's not what I was saying, dammit! Why do you have to turn everything upside down? How beautiful or ugly she is doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Homogenic rocked and Volta sucked. Do you understand? Now leave me alone.

  • I totally disagree! I'm well aware of her talent as a musician... that's why I'm a huge fan! Can I not think she's a lovely looking woman and say it? What kind of bullshit is that!? What's with this militant approach anyway...this is supposed to be fun and you're acting a little emotional if you ask me. She's a hot looking woman ok, and she's a genius too.

What male artist like myself wouldn't think that of Bjork?

  • Woooooooooooow... I'm not interested in discussing with you how beautiful you find Björk as a woman, geddit? Jeeze...

  • Who said we were having a discussion? I'm merely pointing out that aside from her being one of the most ground breaking artists in contemporary music, she also happens to be very attractive. I know you want to discuss the merits of her music, and with an artist like Bjork, you're bound to have a CD, (Volta) that's not everyone's taste. That's because she's about taking chances, not repeating herself, (thank God!). She doesn't want to get "stuck" doing the same thing. I, for one, applaud her.

  • If you read some of the comments posted here about Radiohead,a lot of people would rather have them go back to the days of Ok Computer, but they need and want to evolve in their music. We should evolve as well. The music of these two artists, (Bjork and Radiohead), is about breaking new ground. I find that exciting!

    ...don't you?

  • you're both gay, problem solved.

in other news: this cover is awesome.

  • "The music of these two artists, (Bjork and Radiohead), is about breaking new ground. I find that exciting!"

Well, at least we can agree on that. :)

  • ...and Bjork is a little " Hottie" too come on admit it.

    ...only kidding!!!!!!

  • I completly agree with timeages13, some people said that she's trying to go mainstream because she worked with timbaland on volta but some artists want to work with producers that have a unique talent such as timbaland and are easy to work with (not that i have) but to me shes not trying to be mainstream, she wants to try everything she can get her hands on and i love her for that

  • I saw her on a talk show, Charlie Rose, it's a show here in New York. She said that she rarely reads reviews and blogs about her music. She didn't do it because she didn't want to be enamored with the past, with what she had already done. I think if ever artist was inspired only according to their reviews, they'd be condemned to repeat themselves until a fickle public got tired of it.

  • By the way, just saw Radiohead in Nimes two nights in a row..........my head is still SPINNING!!!!!! Hope you have a blast in NYC! :)

  • Where's NIMES?

Yeah I'm really excited about this concert...hope my head is spinning like a top as well.

Thanks for your well wishes...glad you enjoyed it so much!

  • Bjork has released some fantastic tunes in the past as well as a fair amount of duds. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan, but let's be honest here: the quality of her material is rather inconsistent. Volta was a major disappointment. And Portishead just released the album of the year. Give it a listen, let me know.

  • Another thing I wanted to add is I met Bjork a few times, once at my gym in NYC. She's far prettier than you might imagine, (flawless fair skin and dark hair), and incredibly shy! When I said how much I admired her music, her face went a beet red! It gave me a glimpse of how

authentic a person/artist she really is.

...I regard her music that much more after those encounters.

  • Obviously you're frustrated, I'll admit she's not an easy listen. There's a tremendous amount of thought and effort that goes into her music, and so the listener is asked to do the same. When you compare Bjork to artist like Portishead, Massive Attack, I cringe!

...she's not that, sorry, she's too big for that little box.

You don't appreciate her music, it's not simple enough...go back to tired Tori Amos music.

...stew in your own limitations for all I care, I'm surprised you like Radiohead!

  • Believe me you won't see Radiohead covering anyone else's music because they know the genius of this woman. Listen to Vespertine for example on headphones and hear the exquisite tapestry of sounds, music, and choir, and then that soaring voice of hers!

You can't "strip" her music away, you miss the point of her intricate, totally original arrangements.

...too bad you don't get it, a lot of people don't either.

She's not POP, never will be...sorry

  • Who can compare? Tori Amos!?

    ...you must be joking.

Apparently you know very little about music and how it's

    arranged and composed.

And if can only take Bjork's music in small doses it's because you haven't evolved musically enough. She's not meant for a pop audience, and your comments make that ever so apparent.

  • I'm a huge Radiohead fan, but how can you compare this to the Bjork's perfromance of this song...please.

Truth be told she has demonstrated a much broader range musically, and is far more original as an artist..I mean who can you compare to Bjork!?

While Radiohead is far and away the best band making music today, there are comparisons that can be made to bands past and present.

This song is a tribute to a great artist, and she is great and believe so as well.

  • who can we compare to her? Tori Amos? Polly? Kate Bush? Portishead? Massive Attack? What makes her stand out from the pack is her voice, clearly, but she hasn't fallen to the Earth from the Moon, you know, despite what some might be led to believe. She has had her influences, too.

  • Also, how can one compare this to the original? But why compare? The only thing that matters is the emotional response it gets from the listener. It's a beautiful song, and I loved this performance. And I love Bjork, too...in small doses.

  • beautiful

  • Sorry, I don't like it. But I'm glad you all do !!

  • i like it lots!!!!

  • Wow thats amazing!

  • Does anyone know where I can download this?

  • They bring something different to this song ; definitely as good as the original one.

  • Bjork is Great, Radiohead too is Great!!

  • Best band alive

  • I read that Thom Yorke said "Unravel" is his favorite song EVER!

  • where'd you read that? i read on bjork's website that its his favorite bjork song...

  • prolly true, but the possibility of knowing a musical genius's favorite song is irreistable, don't you think?

  • I read that too... I think it's on Bjork's Wikipedia page

I was there about two hours ago, I think, lol

  • Wonderful soul cleansing!

  • Do you ever get the feeling that Radiohead are too good?.

  • I dont mind this. Yeah Thom does fuck up on the first "You'll never return it" but he NAILS it the second time around...how can you diss this guys falsetto? its angelic

  • i love it i love it i love it

  • amazing.

  • I know it's not so important, but it's a great feeling to know they love the same music as me ^^

  • pura magia...

  • wow.

  • Absolutely beautiful, it creates an atmosphere that blends perfectly with the theme of the song

  • Wow!

  • I was amazing to me that Radiohead would cover Bjõrk, because I feel that her expression is so unique and actually Radiohead is on of my favorit bands. I traveled in Iceland because of Bjõrk and Icelantic music in generel. I think there will be very few good covers of Bjõrk, because Bjõrk is just so BJÕRK, and that's what we love about her right?

  • q voz tan chingona poca madre

  • aiaiai!!!!

  • secondo me poteva lasciar perdere..

  • It's Brilliant!

For all you people talking shit about it being a bad cover, Check out these awful covers:

Yeah yeah yeah's - Hyperballad (Bjork)

    The Killer- Shadowplay (Joy Division)

These will have you throwing up shit.

  • i acctually really liked the YYY's cover

U have to be very careful when u judge covers...especially when thier live

you have to listen to them a few times

becuase the 1st time u'll be too much comapring it to the original

you have to wait till you can treat it liek a new song uve not herad be4

....give the Yeah Yeah Yeahs another try

  • i have the worse one

Fall out boy - Love will tear us apart...

  • major thumbs down to Colquhouny, holypaladin5150, and rvpatv for being whiny unnapreceating to the fact this was only a warm-up cover ....not hours upon hours spent trying to replicate the original, just R-head being subtle and a tribute to Bjork, get a life!

  • All I said was shaddup to the whiners and I pissed on! Nice one!

  • so yeah why bother with the band.

you can barely hear the guitars, sounds more like distant violin...

should be labeled as "Thom Yorke's cover of Unravel"

anyway, it is a great song and a very nice cover. nice job.

  • I love this song. My bahjeezus.

  • what a sad soul u must be?have many traffic tickets to pay?if not......i would expect some soon.

  • You're trash.

  • out of the 3 covers on the webcast, I liked this one the best.

  • Beautiful. But Bjork has already stolen my heart.

  • oh yeah? you probably wouldn't get to its toes.

big mouths like you is what we don't need.

  • Do it and upload it to YouTube. I wanna see.

  • TMGLMOAT

  • oh come on.

do you really think im going to post it?

whether it was great or not, it wouldnt matter.

    youre all so biased.

    its quite pathetic.

    i bet youre all AtEasers.

  • you're so full of shite, Colquhouny

  • who was arguing that Bjork sings this song better?! she fucking OWNS this song. but this is still a good cover...different but enjoyable just the same.

and you're full of shite, cause you're claiming that you can sing better than Thom fucking Yorke, and then when asked to post a video of yourself singing you're looking for an excuse not to. yes, yes you ARE full of shite. if not, fucking prove it - post a video of yourself doing a cover of Unravel. douchebag.

  • i wanna see it, upload to us!

  • a bit weak compared with the original, but still enjoyable...

  • Thom said in a magazine that he's always wanted to cover this song.

  • Great song...awesome performance

    Amazing!

  • Great song...better performance.

    Amazing!

  • are u some kinda special ed case? you sound retarted if u want to hear the real song look up bjork - unravel. L2sing noobs.

  • I don't know why but this really touches me. I think it's incredibly beautiful.

  • mal no está,pero con la Bjorky es mejor

  • he is drunk.truth...watch the full webcast.

  • Yeah, go watch it, and this time pay attention to the part where they say that the cover of Unravel was pre-recorded during rehearsal sessions a few days prior to the webcast.

  • Omg my favourite singer singing a cover of my second favourite artist who's Björk. Awesome

  • This is very sweet and a great tribute to a wonderful artist and amazing song.

  • hes just paying respects to one of his favorite singers, nothing wrong with that...

  • bjork's version is better but this is pretty damn fucking good! radiohead rocks!

  • I love this song! Thom's voice makes it happen. Although it sounds like he's a tad bit too close to the mic, it still works! WOW!

    Take care everyone.

  • meaning,

    x

  • umm you guys are aware that this was a simple webcast cover, right? stop treating it like a full-fledged studio release. it sounds beautiful. and even if you don't think so, it's unmastered, unedited, a nice, raw rough bit.

  • you know, it's actually not that bad. unravel is one of my favorite songs as well, but if you really liked it there would be nothing that could make it sound bad.

not to mention there are much, much worse covers of this song.

  • "its like saying "hey..i like your stuff, but i can do it better".. "

you couldn't be more wrong on this.

Unravel is one of Thom Yorke's all-time favourite songs. Radiohead didn't cover it to try to better the original...they covered it because they simply love the song.

i thought it was a great cover, i honestly don't hear what you're hearing..."pissed at a bar"?.. really? in any case, nothing about this cover is insulting to Bjork...flattering, if anything.

  • Jeez calm down it could be much worse. Unravel could end up a sample on some shitty rap/dance song like some classics at the moment. At least Thom Yorke respects the song and (in my opinion) does it justice.

  • i agree.i am a fan of both......but please remember that they were drinking during the webcast.mabye just one of those "spur of the moment things"?i doubt they will play this live.they are just haveing a good time.i wouldnt be 2 offended.i doubt bjork is....and i know radiohead dont give a fuck....so...just take it easy........nothing wrong with a great band getting drunk and playing a bjork song is there??????

  • you really need to get a hold of your self.

and by the way art is all about perseption.

  • people who feel a little disappointed on In Rainbow, not because that ablum itself, it may because they have spent a lot of time on youtube with radiohead. sorry, my english is poor.

  • I think that the people who were disappointed in in rainbows have bad taste but i don't see why we're thumbsdowning them? i don't want to see a comments section where it's like 5,000 comments that all just say "OMGZ THIS IS GREAT" ..everyone gets their own opinion

  • dissapointed*

  • nearly - try again

  • I'm not dasapointed in In Rainbows! more of it I really LIKE IT!!! so many great songs from here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
