@skatecubed I'm from ivory coast (black obviously), although my ancestors were white settlers that came in africa from Portugal. I've been an exchange student in canada for 2 years now. Never experienced any kind of racism (directly at least). I find it disgusting, no matter what your color (I know black people can be very racist). It is just the way I am, I tend to try get to know people before deciding if I hate them or their culture. And I never generalize or stereotype.

Many people see anything "white" as inherently wrong. I have no problem with different cultures, I am sick though, of being told that my family owes people for perceived wrongs. @skatecubed When it came time for "black history month", the Jamaican students got an all expense paid ski trip as a "black history trip", I am sure you see that irony, on the trip they did nothing with black history when we had a wealth of freedom train and slave history in the area we were, the ending point of the freedom train from the US. This history included the tunnels in local churches where slaves where kept hidden for a time from the people who recovered escaped slaves.

@gill427 I belong to a minority, I am Celtic, not Anglo-Saxon, yet when I filled in the "other" box back in school for an anonymous survey, identifying myself as a minority, i was mysteriously identified and threatened with detention, for daring to call myself a minority, because my skin was white and I did not speak with an accent. The fact my skin is white and I speak the language well does not mean I am not a minority. My father has suffered the effects of racism due to his accent.

@skatecubed I'm from ivory coast (black obviously), although my ancestors were white settlers that came in africa from Portugal. I've been an exchange student in canada for 2 years now. Never experienced any kind of racism (directly at least). I find it disgusting, no matter what your color (I know black people can be very racist). It is just the way I am, I tend to try get to know people before deciding if I hate them or their culture. And I never generalize or stereotype.

@gill427 I have met white people from the Ivory coast oddly, and you are welcome here, and welcome to live within Canadian laws, any way you want, but if you start trying to jam down throats, your way of life or culture, rather than share it, I am sure someone will have issues with that, and that has nothing to with race, any more than not allowing honor killings in Canada, and supporting women's rights is an act of racism. @gill427 That was in fact a copy of a post someone else made that I happen to agree with. Though I am a minority, i am white, and not a "visible" minority. Many people see anything "white" as inherently wrong. I have no problem with different cultures, I am sick though, of being told that my family owes people for perceived wrongs. For instance, my ancestors on my mother's side worked on the freedom train bringing slaves to freedom from the US. (continued in next comment)

The same principal who threatened to give me detention for self identifying as a minority on a anonymous survey, If I didn't change my answer, because I was white.

@skatecubed Jamaicans were not slaves, they were the people mainly who avoided slavery by becoming the wives and lovers of the slave traders, so their ancestors did not experience slavery, but because they were black, they felt they were entitled, also, my ancestors worked to get slaves out of slavery, at risk to their lives, so I owed them nothing for my ancestors actions, the opposite really, but I do not believe in that kind of thought.

@skatecubed When it came time for "black history month", the Jamaican students got an all expense paid ski trip as a "black history trip", I am sure you see that irony, on the trip they did nothing with black history when we had a wealth of freedom train and slave history in the area we were, the ending point of the freedom train from the US. This history included the tunnels in local churches where slaves where kept hidden for a time from the people who recovered escaped slaves.

@skatecubed A few of us inquired about trips for people from other ethnic backgrounds during their respective history weeks or months, and we were threatened with expulsion from the school for even bringing it up, we were being racist, because we were mainly white, even though many were from eastern block countries, Poland for example. Celebrating our history is seen as racist, so we are not allowed, simply because of our European heritage, is that not racist too?

@jojo24love Also, slavery has been around since before biblical times, what we think of slavery now, the abuse of "owned" servants, is a relatively recent creation, and is/was wrong. slavery, also known as indentured servitude, is not the sole realm of blacks, peoples of all colours, and races, have been owned, and treated kindly (and poorly) by their masters for thousands of years. There are many places that though they do not call it slavery, still have Indentured servitude.
