  • 過年好(哈哈哈)我知道春節結束了,但是既然這個視頻的一部分是關於春節的,我就應該說(過年好)哈哈。 我真的很喜歡學粵語,但是縂也沒有時間,因爲得提高我的漢語 (我是指普通話) oh by the way, what is the name of the song playing in the background. I really like this type of music but i can't find it anywhere, phewie (我稱這樣的中國音樂為"中國餐廳音樂“,因爲去中國餐廳的時候,我總是聽到這樣的音樂)anyway, thanks for the vid... be happy and good luck in your endeavors

  • Does this very pretty woman actually speak Chinese? Sounds like she had a hard time getting started. But then, what do I know? I can speak not one word in Cantonese and can only butcher a few Mandarin phrases. She is very pretty. Too bad I'm not 20 or 25 years younger!

  • I'm Korean and French-Canadian!! whoo!!!

  • @TheSweetSpotShop the french-canadian sounds sexy. the korean... not so much.

  • Haha its funny (: Good effort tho! Love your accent!

  • what's the song in the bckground? :)

  • you know, my cantonese isn't exactly very good either. my family told me to speak more cantonese to improve. but when i want to talk, the first word that comes out of my mouth is usually in english! i like english alot better than my own language. but that doesn't mean im not proud to be able to speak cantonese!

  • awesome! i understand you! i always thought you were mandarin! i was so surprised when you talked in cantonese!

  • hey your English is very good, do you teach your Chinese bf Eng or he is Chinese American like you too?

  • This is shameful just even browsing through Chinese videos (I am chinese too).

TO all of those who are Chinese and to those who are white and are learning Chinese languages, please get the fucking facts right.

There is no such language called Chinese, Chinese is a race not a language.

Its horribly shameful why people even put these tittles such as "I can speak chinese".

  • @441meatloaf People like saying chinese, because mandarin sounds like a fruit

  • @brb941

LOL mandarin doesnt sound like a fruit. Those who say that are people who don't appreciate the differences in culture and languages.

If mandarin sounds like a fruit Cantonese is even worse. Canto is slang ver of mandarin.

  • @441meatloaf i mean literally there is a fruit called a mandarin

  • @brb941

lol if u now make it clear then the confusion is gone. But what does a fruit have to do with the language??

  • @441meatloaf CANTONESE is a dialect. It isn't a 'slang ver' of mandarin.

  • @ahhh196

    You're completely clueless.

It is a slang ver of Mandarin. Canto as a language lacks all aspect of grammar. Even when we write chinese the written language grammar structure is the same as that of Mandarin.

Mandarin is a correct form of the language since spoken and written is the same in its grammar structure. However, canto lacks the aspect of it.

  • @441meatloaf Excuse me, I happen to be a Chinese. Not an ABC either. I speak the language and write the language everyday. Cantonese IS A DIALECT. Please get your facts right. It is not a slang version.

  • @ahhh196

speaking and writing the language doesnt mean you understand the history of chinese. If you even have taken some time to notice the commonalities you would see.

  • @441meatloaf every chinese dialect has commonalities. and i would like to point out that even though i might not fully understand the history of chinese, it's not like you do either.

  • @ahhh196

If you dont understand Chinese history you have no rights to even comment on my knowledge on Chinese language of Mandarin and Canto.

I don't understand how you can comment on someone about a knowledge question yet you don't know the knowledge yourself.

Plain ironic and stupid criticism coming from you.

  • @441meatloaf i never said i do not understand chinese history. it is one of the subjects taught in school which i happen to be good at, mind you.i said i do not fully understand chinese history, because it is so exapnsive one will never be able to understand it all. i do not believe you have great knowledge on it either, so you also have no right to say my criticism is ironic or stupid. and you really have no knowledege at all do you, because every comment i have replied is based on true facts.

  • @441meatloaf What constitutes a dialect is usually a political question and not a linguistic one. Cantonese isn't anybody's 'slang' but the language of the Yue (粤) people who today are considered part of the Han (汉)ethnicity (who you refer to as the 'Chinese' race). The differences between Mandarin and Cantonese can be compared to the differences between and English and Italian. You are correct that there is no 'spoken' language called 'Chinese'. The written language, in both forms is Chinese.

  • @ezzerdamoose

I'm not saying Cantonese is "anybody's slang" but in actual sense, Canto is just a transformed version of spoken mandarin and there is significant evidence to prove that. Since i know how to speak the two languages you often find similarities between the spoken tone.

What people mistaken is that when they think about Mand and canto they think its two complete different languages.

  • @441meatloaf 粤语 and 普通话 share a common linguistic ancestor (Middle Chinese) but it is entirely incorrect, as well as chauvinistic to suggest that one of these languages developed from the other. In fact, Cantonese is older than Mandarin. The last book I read on the subject is very informative. Allow me to recommend The Sino-Tibetan Languages by Graham Thurgood and Randy J. LaPolla. Dialect or "complete different languages"? Leading linguists don't agree but to me its politics, not science.

  • @ezzerdamoose

My argument here is that, the spoken form is different with similarities. But if you go deeper to the roots of canto, its emanation from Mandarin. Why? Cantonese itself cannot be considered a full language because it has no written form. There are many words that are spoken in Canto simply has no words in proper Chinese. For ex: "一D人" meaning "these people", "D" is spoken but no actual word in chinese for it.

Canto written form is the same as Mandarin.

  • @441meatloaf You seem to contradict yourself here. Is there "no written form" of Cantonese or "Canto written form is the same as Mandarin."? Chinese is one of the few genuinely unique forms of writing and it was employed by the entire Confucian world so that even Japan and Korea wrote in Chinese before developing their own systems. There are differences between 'Simplified' (PRC) and 'traditional' (ROC, HK, SNG) characters.

  • @ezzerdamoose

Mandarin and Canto is like the difference between English UK and English USA.

There is minor differences in terms of grammar, but spoken language is little different. And because of the similarities people don't quite know the differences and ambiguity starts here.

  • @441meatloaf "English UK and English USA"? Mandarin and Cantonese are mutually incomprehensible.

  • @ezzerdamoose I think you have the wrong "yue" --- 语 is more correct.

  • @tableaux88 The hanyu pinyin for 语 is 'yu' (third tone), not 'yue'. I'm trying to figure out what it is that you think you are correcting. If it's 'yue' as in 粤, this character means 'Cantonese', like 粤语 is the Cantonese language. 粤菜 is Cantonese cuisine.

  • @ezzerdamoose Oh, I'm sorry. I assumed you were putting emphasis on that it is sounded out as though it is with a dowel. I thought maybe you had just made a mistake in the spelling of the pinyin.

    My bad.

  • @ezzerdamoose

The difference is not really as big as between English and Italian. Rather between English and Dutch (or German).

    You're basically right though.

  • no,

the difference btwn chinese and cantonese is London English and Scottish English.

There's minor pronunciation differences but these are systematic and can be easily acquired.

English and italian have different vocabulary, while cantonese and mandarin have not only the same characters, but the same vocabulary.

I'm sick of white people takling about cantonese as a language, what do you get out of it, really.

  • @lukas1421 I'm mandarin chinese, my friends are cantonese chinese, I have no idea what they're talking about.

  • @asiangangster007

thats because you are a faggot, please 别给中国人丢脸了

    这里面的白人都在以非广东人听不懂广东话作为分裂中国的一些说辞

    你不明白就别再着留言,傻逼

  • @lukas1421 我自己没有什么分裂中国的目的。你太偏执吧。

  • @lukas1421 What do I get out of it? It's my job. I teach linguistics at York University in Toronto, you racist twat.

  • Comment removed

  • @ezzerdamoose What linguistics do you teach you dumb shit, im a phd in east asian linguistics

  • Comment removed

  • @lukas1421 To respond to your blatantly racist remark regarding 'white' people wanting to call Cantonese a language. It would appear a lot of Chinese people think that way too. Regional dialects are usually 话 or 'speak' as in 四川话,云南话,while there is 广东话,it is also called 粤语 where 语 means 'language' in Chinese and is not used for 'dialects'. Of course you know that too. Why is your channel 'not available'? What are you hiding from? btw: There's no fucking way you have Phd. in linguistics.

  • @ezzerdamoose

im from u of t ...come down here sometimes and ill smack your head in the Cheng Yu Tung east asian library.

I'll smack it so hard you'll be like please let me go up the DVP to go back to York U.

But your ass will have been so beaten up that when you cant sit in the driver's seat, sucka!

  • @lukas1421 Hahaha...Whoa there, tough guy! Are you sure you don't have a Phd. in ass kicking? You're hilarious. if you didn't already prove yourself to be both a liar and a coward I might even have been a bit afraid.

  • @ezzerdamoose whatever

  • @ezzerdamoose

my channel is not avaiable because i want to prevent faggots like you from leaving any msg

pls, dont use expletives on this. i love this girl and dont be blasphemous in her video

    goddam it

  • @lukas1421 “Faggot", huh? I used to work with Sheryl (you know, the girl in this video. The one you 'love'. She also went to York) I don't know her very well but I do know that what turns her off are liars, cowards, racists and homophobes and congratulations, you've managed to fit into all four categories. 看出来是你给中国人丢脸了。

(Sorry about this Sheryl, I promise I'll stop talking to this douchebag and messing up your comment board with this crap after this post. I swear).

  • @ezzerdamoose Oh look, it's the cyber police.. Shut the fuck up.

  • @ezzerdamoose wow, where did you work with Sheryl??? That's pretty cool. I have respect for Sheryl.

  • @lukas1421 A small language school in North York (Yonge and Sheppard area) where she (the 'Chinese' girl) taught English and I (the 'white' guy) still teach Mandarin twice a week (I do have a professional native-speaking teaching assistant specifically for pronunciation training). That's twentieth century Canada for you.

Yes, Sheryl is cool, a great teacher and obviously quite talented.

  • @ezzerdamoose

I know that area...theres a church there. It's slick that you teach mandarin. lol. Thumbs up to you. Where is Sheryl now do you know??? :D

  • @ezzerdamoose

I want to take her english class ... private lessons. I am willing to pay 100 an hour....ahhhhhhh

  • @441meatloaf Chinese is not a race; it's a nationality.

  • Cantonese is so hard to learn!! I'm sticking to mandarin haha. 你很大漂亮 =)

  • Yeah your Cantonese is kinda perfect but the word "祝" is kinda weird.

  • i really hate poeple make fun azn, like how they talk. is really pissed me off =[. i speak like little bit of chinese, vietnam (alot), japese (little bit) and little bit of koran. =D i love it!! they almost sound the same and kinda make me crazy to try to understand it
