Never could say Goodbye to Dusty...gorgeous & glorious voice lives on forever sounding as beautiful & soulful as ever! Bravo Dusty, your the greatest & RIP
Passionate & soulful anthem "Learn To Say Goodbye" is one of the finest from Dusty Springfield and would have been a blockbuster hit but radio didn't play it...at this time they only programmed singer/songwriters with bad voices and Dusty didn't fit in to this tired mix so "Cameo" was only appreciated by us fans and wore out several vinyl copies...love the CD, a masterpiece from Dusty and this engrossing ballad is closing song...Bravo Dusty!

I watched say goodbye maggie cole back in 1972. You cry straight through the movie. My brother died of acute leukemia. He left a wife and two children. This movie just gets to my heart.
My Mother and I watched this movie together..we cried together. Throughout the years..we always remembered the movie..thanks to Dusty Springfield's gut wrenching delivery of Learn To Say Goodbye, We also knew that Susan Hayward was also stricken with cancer.
Little did I know...that I'd be here...listening to this song and missing my best friend..my Mother. It's true..one cannot learn to say goodbye..to anyone they've loved. This song confirms it.
does anyone know where to find this sheet music???have been trying to find this for years and still can't i know it was by hugo montenegro and brad (forgot his last name) and have been unable to locate anywhere on the web--please help--i need the piano version--thanks in advance.
Thank you for this. It brings back memories of bunking off school in London in the 1970s (where I was bullied for being gay) and staying at home to escape into made-for-TV American movies in the afternoon. Say Goodbye Maggie Cole was one of the many films I watched, and I shall never forget the impact it - and Dusty's song - had on me. It is a joy to discover Dusty's lovely song again on You Tube. PS I survived the bullying!
I'm a retired funeral director, and have used this song at several funerals. I've also used "I'll Be Seeing You" by either The Skyliners or Tony Bennett, depending on age group.
One of my favorite ABC MOVIE OF THE WEEK(telecast in September of 1972 I think). Thanks so much for uploading the beautiful opening theme by the great Dusty Springfield.
I kept thinking of this song for such a long time when the movie came out and it came from the last tv movie Susan Hayward made about this dying woman,it touched so many of us because Ms.Hyaward was also dying of cancer, infact it was to be said the movie she made in the desert where the bombing took place and John Wayne and Vancliff all died of cancer due to the radiation they were exposed on the set, rumors ran of this for years about all the cast members on the movies.
She made an album Reputations which had major input from the Pet Shop Boys and at least 3 hit singles with them here and over in the States.Dusty the best female vocalist ever IMHO!!!
I listened to this song in 1986 just getting divorced, it helped me allot thanks dusty

the haunting lyrics and Dusty's perceived desperation make me want to cry! She's great; it's just too bad she didn't sing even better material.

This was from an ABC Movie of the Week called Say Goodbye, Maggie Cole.
She encounters a young woman with leukemia and the two relate.
She knows the prognosis for the young girl is not promising but still wants to pursue experimental treatment that initially proves promising.
However, in the end, the young girl is going to die and Maggie needs to be with her.
This is a total tearjerker with Maggie staying with the young girl as she dies and calls her mommie.

She was so beautiful. I met her in at a dance club in Los Angeles in the 1980's. I think that she did a song with the Pet Shop Boys.
