  • Ok, if they have this show, where is the Weather Report clip? It was the same venue, year and same date probably.

  • This is Dave Mancini on drums.

  • Wow, he's playing a 4-valve flugelhorn. Shades of Don Ellis! So Erskine is NOT on drums?

  • wait a second is this steve gadd o rDave mancini?

  • hi

great video. Do you have any videos from the weather report show, at this very

    same festival?

    thanks

  • this is one of my favorate alto solos ever! wow.

  • smoking alto sax

  • @ :24 is Maynard saying, "hope that you like my mom."? haha

  • what an amazing song! but no trumpet can equal to Teena's voice.

  • el sonido del maestro del sax se me hizo parecido al de cris vadala me gusto mucho gracias boricuajazz

  • Yes Dave Mancini is the drummer. He only did part of this tour though and was replaced by Gregg Bissonette brother of the bass player in this video. Mancini is a monster player but I really like what Gregg brought to the table. With Matt and Ron Pedley that was a friggin killer rhythm section. I saw them 3 times! Oh and I agree that Mancini had to be heavily influenced by Gadd!!

  • Is that his name....hmmm. Never knew. We always referred to him as the crazy drummer who looked like he was either coked up or getting pleasured under the drum stand there. Or both. Lotta energy.

  • He may have been coked up but so was Maynard so it didn't matter!! LOL

  • Dave Mancini is the drummer.

  • Hi boricuajazz8:

The quality video is not good, but enough to admire those great musicians. Thank you very much.

The end of the drummer solo, when he gives the entrance to the band, is fabulous (27 years ago). The drummer style remember me some of Steve Gadd, I didn't undestand his name, do you know it please?

Otherwise, do you know if it is possible to buy this video?

    Thanks again.

  • Yes it is Steve Gadd, sorry about the quality of the video. it was from a vhs rip many years ago.

  • Thanks for your answer.

  • No problem bro.

  • Hi again boricuajazzz8:

In your other post, "Portuguese love" in Montreal Jazz Festival, at 9:00 M. Ferguson says the drummer name (he is not Gadd).

Otherwise, congratulatios for your great collection.
