Also, you really cant tell the males from the females until theyre adults, and i for one havebnever seen turtles for sale that are bigger than 2-3 inches. If you accidentally get 2 males, by the next say you'll have 1, maybe none, because they killed eachother. I do agree that hhere should be a littoe less water, but you dont have to call him an "ig

@randy12368 Ok dumbass, red eared sliders love water, they arent on land very much, only to bask in the light. This is a perfect setup for the little guy. The more water the better for these turtles. Put em in only a couple of inches of water and they get stressed and get sick or die. And these turtles are perfectly happy by themselves. You really need to educate yourself before looking like a complete ignorant dipshit.

I think this is a wonderful setup! :) The water looks to be just right. Turtles need excercise too. So I disagree with the comments about it being too deep. The water could easily be this deep in the wild and the turtle would be just as happy.

@woodsta1992 - Turtles need a lot of water!!! They need a turtle dock thats suitable for their size & weight & that is enough. The rest needs to be water as they are more wet than dry animals. They love to swim & they only come onto land to dry out & bask. I wish that some people on here would put a few hours into reading up on their pets before coming on here & telling people incorrect information. It doesnt help the turtle owner or the turtle! :-(

whoa buddy, the lamps are really close to the dock, take a temperature of the dock, it shud not exceed 95 degrees farenheit, 85 is good. And the lamps shud be about 8 inches away from the dock at least.

what do you use for a heat source. i use the flukers clamp lamp but i dont no wat bulb to use because i just used a regular incandescent bulb and the lamp heats up pretty fast and i dont want it to burn down the house.

for the basking light you can use any sort of house bulb that you would get at home depot but you the most inportant part is the uvb light

not only do they need room but let me tell all the pet owners get a gooodddd filter and a big tank because they urinate a lot and large amount of water dilutes the pee... and the filter cleans the water,,,, if you dont have these then your turtle has a hight chance of getting an infection such as peeling skin or iriated eyes or a respitory infection.

I would think that it may get too big. Our turtle is roughly 4" or smaller and the 55 gallon is great. I would never go smaller than this because they need lots of room to swim and play.

You are right, turtles need to be able to sun most of the day to get vitamin D as well as let their shell dry out completely during the day to prevent shell rot. We have a turtle dock as well as a turtle rock and I would never have a turtle without one. They are very sensitive and take a lot of care.

all of the plants are real, we are using Java Moss. I would highly recommend it because it grows really fast and we usually have to take some out when the tank is cleaned. Would you like to buy some :)

We use both because they each have a purpose. The UVB light is for his shell and the heat light is to dry out his shell so he doesn't get shell rot. Both lights get turned on at 7am and stay on till 7pm, we make sure that they are off at night so he can sleep. Make sure that the turtle can dry off completely.

@CreativeArtwork - Same with me. My light is on 8 till 8. You are recreating the suns heat & light )UV A & B rays) so a good 12 hours of sun & then 12 hours of night are perfect for your turtle. I use a ZooMed Clamp Lamp which is coated inside with basically a glow in the dark paint. It absorbs the lost light during the time your bulb is turned on, then once turned off it gives off a nice glow, recreating the moon actually. Turtles love it. :-)

Map turtles are very territorial and skiddish and seem to like no-one else around. Our turtle is almost full grown now, the male Map turtles only usually grow to be 4 inches where RES grow to be 12 inches. 6 RES are going to take a large tank once they grow. A 55 gallon tank is just enough room for Tank.

I am glad that people are starting to use larger tanks and are filling them full of water. Turtles are very strong swimmers and will pace back and forth when they do not have enough room, you just have to make sure that they have a spot to bask and sit or hold on at night while sleeping. They are better rested that way. Good Luck!

We had to improvise on our stand. We couldn't really find anything at a reasonable price so we used a shelf that we already had and just made sure that it was really strong. We also drilled it into the wall so that in any case it wouldn't tip over. Good luck with the search, they are hard to find for a good price.
