theres alot difference in the wifi options for example i was not able to access my colleges internet before becasue cupcake only supportedd wep now it supports the encryption that the school uses
You completely missed the addition of both the VPN capabilities and the speech synthesis. Wi-Fi now supports WAP2-Enterprise. As others noted, you missed the new functionality of the search bar. Voice command starts quicker. In Security and Location, there is now a "Secure Credentials" bit too. The "Manage Applications" section now calculates on the fly so that you can work with the list instead of waiting for it to finish first. Also left out the search settings. Plus more. Poor review, IMHO.
man it sucks no multi touch no flashi mean its the same damn thing man im dissapointed they should have worked on it more bbbbbuuuuuuuuu !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
The IPhone would have used an glorified mobile version of the website. He was actually on engadget not iengadget. Not to mention his phone was doing other things; which he could have stopped, at the same time. But I agree it wasn't smooth but he didn't prepare for this very much.
donut was released today by t mobile expect the update to hit all g1 users by the end of the week to weekend my touch users by the end of the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please excuse my ignorance here, as I have no real experience with Android or how Android phones work... but what would this update mean for MotoBlur users? Is this update only for certain Android phones? If you have Motorola's CLIQ do you get any of these features? Please lemme know.
Phones using Motoblur will be able to update to Android 1.6. No, this update should be available for all Android devices, except for maybe the G1. Not sure about that yet.
The G1 will receive this update. Think about it, 1.6 has been released for the Dev Phone 1. That is a G1, just unlocked. All other specs are the same. Also the MyTouch 3G has the same specs as the G1 as well (in the US at least). All Android phones will get this one. The G1 most likely won't get 2.0, however.
You're right, I forgot the Dev Phone got 1.6. I thought the problem with the G1 getting further updates was there wasn't enough memory on the G1. But I guess it has enough for donut, awesome! I have a G1, and I want donut! XD The MyTouch has slightly better specs than the G1, more ROM and RAM I think, just FYI.
the mytouch3g has double the ROM size, but same RAM specs. vodaphone magic and tmobile mytouch use the 32b board= 192mb, the rogers and unlocked htc magics use the 32a boards=288mb RAM
motorola will not be getting the 1.6 update until they can incorporate into their motoblur ui. samething with the htc sense ui. htc and motorola need to update their ui so it will support 1.6.
starting oct 1st midnight , tmobile g1 users will start getting the 1.6 update and oct 2nd midnight tmobile mytouch3g users will start getting it.
The animation of closing and opening apps seems to have changed, where it does a fade/zoom in and a fade/zoom out, where before it would simply slide whatever is on the screen off to the left side.
do keyboard settings work for g1?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This "review" could've been
A: better (you missed various things as people noted)
B: A lot shorter
At this moment I think 18.988 people want at least 5 minutes out of their lives back..
I'll watch other channels for info on Android from now

I've been using Android 1.6 on my G1 for about a couple of weeks now and it's running fine.
anthrax704 2 years ago
all of these features should be in the new moto phone.
Android is the base of the OS, so all updates should affect all android phones. the "MotoBlur" crap is like window dressing on top of the OS.
ekeefe41 2 years ago
the update wont come as early for motoblur phones since motorola needs to update their ui to support 1.6, same with htc sense ui
