  • Photo stream doesn't :-(

  • This has worked for me will give it a go now cheers!

  • Muchas gracias, funciona de maravilla!!

Thanks a lot, it works perfectly

  • Er... I tried this, and for some reason it didn't seem to save. I've tried it several times, I even referred to another tutorial which recommends changing the 600 to 200... But non e of these worked; I still get the message about it needing Windows Vista or newer. Help, somebody?

  • @iwillkilluaftermynap You need to click save, Also make sure you're logged in as an Administrator

  • @TheReecedogCP I did, and the only account on my computer is an Administrator... :(

  • LOL! It works! Thanks!

    Thanks!!!

  • Doesn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • lmao thanks dude, worked like a charm.

  • Well i tried this version and also another one that asked to delete that row completely and at first iCloud found problems installing itself. so i downloaded the files and reedited it (by deleteing the whole row again) and finally it worked. Work done mate. The others having problems keep trying ... at the end it should work regardless the many annoying attempts of the same procedure ... dont give up :)

  • Thanks! This works :D

  • how do we fix the photostream problem ? anyone solved it ?

  • great man thank you

  • Thanks, but ...

    #1 - Where do I download Orca MSI exactly ? I found a SuperOrca .. is that ok ?

    #2 - Where do I find iCloud.msi ? It`s not in my Control Panel .. can`t see it anywhere here !

  • @flexibilitygirls Have you followed the instructions? NO! you have not.

Have you heard about Google ? Neither that...

  • @djgrand2 WTF are you talking about ? I did follow them, but you didn't make them crystal clear. Good effort, though .. but a couple steps were left out.

Don`t reply, please. I am all set now.

  • AWESOME!! Thanks a lot!!!

  • PhotoStream not available:

    imageshack.us/photo/my-images/535/icloudwinxpnophotostrea.jpg/

  • O mas fácil entra en iCloud.com desde tu navegador ;)

  • Just proves how nooby apple is with windows. lol they did not even add any discompile protection!

  • thank you, you absolute legend ! :D

  • i installed it but when i went to control panel i went on icloud i signed in the it said icloud encountered an error plese respond and help.

  • doesnt work for me it says installer encountered errors before icloud control panel could be configured

  • @mcansh171 I had same problem. But then I found out you have to make sure you extract all the files from the iCloudSetup.msi container into a folder. As there are other files the ORCA modified iCloud.msi installer needs to use. Hope that helps :)

  • @get2arora helped a lot! thanxs

  • Photostream doesn't work :(

  • @ARCarSystems I found the same problem - PhotoStream checkbox is disabled!

  • brilliant . thanks very much

  • Hi! Love the tut, simple and easy. U da BOMB! But after installation, my shortcut to iCloud is missing & can't find it anywhere on my pc. (While installing I chose to show all shortcuts and menus). Can you help?

  • @GameScanner its in the control panel ;)

  • @doctaGeorge it installed but I can't get to photostrream. everything is greyed out except IE bookmarks

  • @doctaGeorge Doh! Tx, this was insultingly easy :P

  • I did all this, but when I try to install he says that had an error.

  • i instaled and can see icloud in control panel. it just wont run

  • IT WORKED!!!!! YOU'RE THE BOMB!!!! =D

  • I followed the instructions and I got an error message saying Icloud control panel requires running windows vista or newer... Now what? =)

  • @doctaGeorge The instructions work and it loads fine for me. However, I can't enable Photostream as the check box is grey'd out. Do you know how to get around this?

  • @siksetup Yes the photostream function doesn't work with this bypass. I don't know how to fix that.

  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services\ApplePhotoStreams.exe and ApplePhotoStreamsDownloader.exe

Now i can see these two depend on the the newer version SHELL32.dll at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\

They look for a SHGetKnownFolderPath entry in SHELL32.dll which exists in Win7

It should be the root cause. i tried to replace that file by the shell32.dll copy of win7 simply, but it just crash the all GUI system. Do you have any idea? Insert a new entry in the old dll or something?

  • @lhhsiaotube yes i tried manipulating those files a few days ago using resource hacker but I didnt have much to work with. Just the manifest which is for windows vista and windows 7, which technically should work on xp. but overall since its not open source its hard to do anything with it. but i think you're on the right track.

  • @doctaGeorge.. To me closes before it opens when i try To log in I put my password and email when I click log in it tries to.. But it says it encounters an error and it needs to close...

  • @Elreymisael try uninstalling everything (even logout of your old mobileme account) and install it again.... make sure you're installing the correct icloud.msi for your system.. Also make sure you have the compatible microsoft office.. .. i believe 2007 or later.. and setup your me.com account as primary. Otherwise I don't know what could possibly be causing the glitch.

  • Thank you a lot!!!

  • @mcmarphy your welcome.

  • This did not work every time i run icloud it has to close and never opens

  • It closes before ever installing or this happens after installation?

  • I tried this and it got past the version check, but when trying to install it the installer reported that it encountered errors before the iCloud Control Panel could be installed and it aborted. So it didn't work.

  • @Morac Maybe try uninstalling or signing out of mobileme. Others have mentioned that as being an obstacle for them.

  • After installing it I couldn't enable the photo stream, Does anyone have the same issue.

  • If you right click on the .exe file and select extract you will get the files you need...

  • @justinnally1983 Yes, that did it. Installed w/o a problem. Thanks.

However, when I sign in w/ my Apple ID, the sign-in window disappears and the iCloud Control Panel never comes up.

Updated iTunes to be sure, but the problem persists. Any suggestions?

  • Same here. No rar file here, just an iCloud.exe download. Running it does not install any iCloud.msi files, as far as I can tell. What am I doing wrong?

  • I completed Step 1 and downloaded "iCloud for Windows" but this is a .exe file, not a .rar file so why do I need winrar to extract it as in Step 2? Sorry if I'm being dumb! Regards

  • I'm having a similar problem...I can install the iCloud no problem but when I go to start/open iCloud I get an error report saying "iCloud has encountered a problem and needs to close. " I have tried all the suggestions below like making sure that iTunes is up to date and installing MobileMe and Bonjour....if anyone has a solution to this I would really appreciate a solution...thanks

  • Perhaps someone can help me I installed icloud successfully but everytime I try to login windows finds an error and it needs to close

  • Thanks for the help. I precise my problem: the Cloud Control Panel work but the option Photo Streaming appears but is not available. Why? Thanks

  • @frdemau I think it's because the path for the folder of "pictures" in windows 7 and vista is different from windows xp. I have to get into the programing of the file to figure that out but I'm a bit busy these days. If anyone else has figured it out please feel free to share.

  • @doctaGeorge Hi, thanks for the instruction, it's very useful. Just wondering if you have any update on the photostreaming? Thanks

  • @alkhk1 No I'm afraid I haven't figured that out.

  • it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • iCloud si installa ma Photo Streaming non si attiva. Si puo' fare qualcosa ?

  • Thanks for the solution. I followed your instructions, downloaded and installed and all seems good between my Windows XP PC outlook software and the cloud. However, now i have no sync between the cloud and my ipad or the cloud and my iphone. Anyone else getting this??

  • @klbcfi from what i understand everything on your icloud account automatically syncs with all your devices simultaneously as long as you have it activated on that device.

  • Thanks a lot.

Its stupid how this giant company like apply and Microsoft try to make more money by getting ride of XP.

    Thx dude.

  • @shahin70075 Anytime

  • Thanks so much. It worked great on three machines. One question though.....will all the updates just install now the the control panel is up? Or will we need to do this with all new updates

  • @aaglassaag I think you will probably need to repeat this process as the new update might probably have the restriction on there as well.

  • One other thing though... when it finally installed and synced the outlook calendar, it re-sent invites to appointments that were on the calendar to everyone that was originally invited, even though I was not the original creater of the appointments... pretty weird. Anyone else have this happen?

  • @adalegator

Same for me... No clue why

  • I GOT IT! I believe that the snag was that MobileMe was signed-in. Once I opened up MobileMe and signed-out, the iCloud.msi would install just fine. This proved true for another computer in my office which had the same problem and is running XP 32-bit. Thanks for the help everyone, and I hope this helps others. Good Luck.

  • same for me ... it works but when I'm inside all the features except internet explorer are greyed. any ideas? thanks in advance

  • Ok... I get the "Welcome to the iCloud Control Panel Installer" window, click next, then accept the terms, click install, and then almost immediately get a window titled "iCloud Control Panel Installer Completed", but it then states "The installer encountered errors before iCloud Control Panel could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, pelase run the installer again." There is no iCloud in the Windows Control Panel... any ideas?

  • @adalegator I'm not sure why you're getting that error. Are you sure you're installing the correct icloud file? if you're using windows xp 64-bit then you need to install icloud64.msi rather than icloud.msi

  • @doctaGeorge yes, I'm using the x64 file...

  • @doctaGeorge yes, I'm using the x64 file... i have had to use this, or similar, work around in the past to install iTunes on this XP 64bit machine... do I need to have the most up-to-date iTunes? if so, I will have to download and modifiy all of those files again... last time it was not a smooth process so I was trying to avoid doing that again. I no longer want to sync with this machine (work computer), but I do need iCloud to sync my outlook calendar.

  • @doctaGeorge There is actually a quick flicker of the next window "Please wait while iCloud Control Panel installs. This may take several minutes. Status: Processing additional packages".

I did proceed and install iTunes 10.5 onto the machine and it appears to work, but I still get the same error on install of iCloud Control Panel.

  • @adalegator Lets leave that as a last resort since it's such a hassle. Have you tried installing the other software files that were extracted manually? like try installing appleapplicationsupport.msi , bonjour.msi etc. but you will probably have to edit them using orca as well ro eliminate that warning message.

It seems that apple software has issues with 64 bit systems.

  • @doctaGeorge I did install all of the other software files (modifed LaunchCondition), and then tried reinstalling them, which lead me to the "repair" option. I even installed the MobileMe64.msi file... which i'm a little confused why Apple is sending out with the iCloud installation files. At one point, I did have a working MobileMe on this computer, but that stopped working months ago. I'm a little discouraged at this point. I would like to think I'm fairlycomputersavvy, but maybenotwiththisone.

  • @adalegator

I have this same issue. I am not sure I did all the steps correctly though. On the Orca.msi editor, I right clicked on the "versionNT>=600 and clicked "cut", but I did not see a "save" option. I did go under file and hit save, but didn't know where to save it to. I am not the most computer savy, so I am sure I am missing a step.

  • @adalegator I get the same error on Windows XP SP3.

  • Can I use some other freeware besides WinRAR?

  • @clhiggins76 winrar is freeware. winrar pro is the one you pay for.

  • I discovered this exact same workaround the other day...downloaded it, got the message, 5 minutes with 7-zip and Wise Install Studio 7 got it to install just fine.

I hate it when companies impose artificial limitations like this...

  • Now why couldn't THEY just do that???

  • Even though the photo stream function is not working, still this is a great tip for those who want to try iCloud with XP. Thank you.

  • This is awesome!!!!!! So easy and it works. Thanks so much!

  • I successfully installed it, but the only problem is that after putting in my apple id and password, the windows error report pops up and prevents me from logging in. Could you suggest anything...?

  • photostream is grey!but still good.

  • Ok I found it in my actual control panel. Duh! But anyway they control panel has the photo section greyed out. I've taken new photos to see if it just needed new photos to be taken for the option to become available but it not. Can you help with this please?

  • @shoelssweb1 Yeah sorry about that I'm not sure how to fix the photostream issue yet. If I do figure it out I'll post a solution.

  • @doctaGeorge Thanks for figuring this out. I would definitely like to be able to use photostream on XP. I will check back regularly to see if you find a solution.

  • @shoelssweb1 Thanks for posting this! It would be nice to have photostream working. I will be checking back regularly to see if you find a solution.

  • I have xp and followed your directions, it installed with no problem except it tells me I can access the icloud through its control panel and im not finding the control panel anywhere. Can you help me?

  • It worked!!!! Thanks sooooooooo much!!!

  • @seaprinceA glad to help

  • do a video of this!

  • @TheDinamit12show I don't have the time to do a whole video. Just wanted to let people know how to do this since I couldn't find anyone else with this information when I searched online.

  • thanks it worked

  • @oscaralex562 anytime
