The way we get oil out of the ground is extremely bad for the environment. Even on land we have settling ponds with really harsh chemicals in them, the mud we use to drill with is mixed with chemicals and is extremly toxic, and all the pockets of gas we hit on the way down the hole escapes into the air,( we usually burn it of, when we can) Not to metion all the gas and diesel engines running on and off the rig, and all the land we clear to put the platform on and the road to get there.
I`ve worked in oil and gas all my life, up till recently, and all on land. I think we should stop drilling for oil offshore until we can do it safely. The reserves offshore dwarf whatever you got on land, so if somthing happens, which it does all the time, its a very big deal, it doesn`t usually make the news though.
In eastern Canada here, we never had big sharks, or hardley ever. I know because i was born on an island and im in the ocean alot. For a couple of months now we`ve had 10 foot sharks simming around our boats and 3 beached whales, we usually have 1 beached whale every couple of years. Its hard to even catch mackrel now.
NONE of it is on our local news, and it might be a good thing because it keeps our fisheries image up, but that spill was alot worse than anyone has portrayed it on the news.

This was not just the fault of BP Oil with the spill. The US govt. should never have allowed a well this deep. Both BP Oil and the US Govt. are to blame. Now the US Govt. is trying to sue BP Oil for something that was allowed. US regulators should have kept a close monitor on BP Oil when it was such a deep well to begin with. Both are to blame and when it comes to money they will probably do it again. I have seen fish die like this before when totally cut off from the oxygen source.

Far too many stories of decidely UNAMERCIAN activities carried out by a Coast Guard run by BP. The way we get oil out of the ground is extremely bad for the environment. Even on land we have settling ponds with really harsh chemicals in them, the mud we use to drill with is mixed with chemicals and is extremly toxic, and all the pockets of gas we hit on the way down the hole escapes into the air,( we usually burn it of, when we can) Not to metion all the gas and diesel engines running on and off the rig, and all the land we clear to put the platform on and the road to get there.

I`ve worked in oil and gas all my life, up till recently, and all on land. I think we should stop drilling for oil offshore until we can do it safely. The reserves offshore dwarf whatever you got on land, so if somthing happens, which it does all the time, its a very big deal, it doesn`t usually make the news though.

In eastern Canada here, we never had big sharks, or hardley ever. I know because i was born on an island and im in the ocean alot. For a couple of months now we`ve had 10 foot sharks simming around our boats and 3 beached whales, we usually have 1 beached whale every couple of years. Its hard to even catch mackrel now.
NONE of it is on our local news, and it might be a good thing because it keeps our fisheries image up, but that spill was alot worse than anyone has portrayed it on the news.

I know it's a bit cruel but there would be no more doubts about wether or not oil and oil dispersants kill wild marine life. It's so easy anyone living near those shores could take a buket full of ocean water and dump it in an aquarium filled with live healthy fish.
