  • Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres is my mentor, but like your self I have long way to go to get close to hem. I like your technique and over all your sincerity honesty and humbleness. I'm painting oil for the last 40 years, and for the last 15 years I "trying" the CLASSICAL REALISM of the 7 LAYERS.

I did won a free topics contest and I presented my reproduction of the PRINCESS Albert de Broglie by INGRESS.

I got the first place, but like your self I'm not satisfied!! Probably will never be....

  • @segurola702 hello, I googled a bit and can find almost no references in dutch. But in english there are a lot, thnx.... Well.. I do think I prefer a more rational approach to painting... My technique resembles that of Singer Sargent (but my skill doesn't)...

  • What is oil painting? Oil paints on the canvas. It's an indisputable definition. I think though that oil painting is more than that. From the 16th century to the beginning of the 20th century artists used the seven layer technique. Like music where there are seven notes, seven keys, and within each there are seven more. 7 days in a week. 7 Layers of Paint. Each layer in oil painting must dry for seven weeks. The energy which we receive from old paintings in museums, like ghosts in old

  • Hi... obviously you are painting in the CLASSICAL REALISM SCHOOL but you are not use the classical seven layers can you tell me how you do it. I really like to use your system it is much more faster!

You do not have any problems with the long-term results? I will appreciate your opinion please. Thank you. Your job is excellent!

  • hmmmm 'the classical seven layers'??? I've never heard of those. To be honest, I don't think there is such a thing as 'the classical seven layers', but I could be wrong. You better not tell your teacher this. Im just painting straight forward 'wet into wet'. If you ask me, if you don't know how to paint wet into wet, you can't paint even with any number of layers. All 'classical' masters had to do some wet into wet painting at some point Only with layers one can achieve more...
