Halloween! How I love Halloween. I've loved it since I was a kid. I read Goosebumps, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (speaking of which, the bastards completely replaced Gammell's unbelievable illustrations), and all kinds of ghost stories. Things haven't changed much! It's also kind of leeched into my taste in music, now that I enjoy Black Metal and Dark Ambient and things of the like.
jez good to hear america about time u got in th real world here n n.z wev been doing tht shit for years, we dont take it serious at all not even the presents haha
I'm Pagan, so for me, Halloween isn't secular, but do I care that it has become secular for a lot of other people? No. Just like I don't care that the Christians stole Christmas (Yule) as the day for celebrating Jesus's birth. What DOES irk me is Christians who have no idea that the Bible says nothing about the actual date of Jesus's birth, and insist that Christmas should be kept religious because it is a 'Christian holiday.' Who CARES? People have fun! What's wrong with that?
@PassTheMarmalade1957 You are obviously a fake pagan, as Halloween is from a completely separate religion than the one "Yule" comes from, you are just.. hilarious.
In Japan people celebrate Christmas and they don't care/know why we celebrate it. All they know is, "Oh look, a fat guy that gives children presents! Let's bake a cake to celebrate." :D Then they put out big posters and decorations and people dress up. Stuff like that. They don't actually seem to realize that it was originally linked to Jesus' birthday. It's not even his birthday. Basically, it was a Winter holiday about a nice guy that was born in the Spring like 2000 years ago. :P
If by "which makes more sense" and you are talking about a bible and a 10000 year old earth, and modern science with its rigourous application, then comparing bronze age hallucinations with modern investigation, i can only suppose the 10000 year old earth theory is totally crackpot. I'm sure most christians would agree the earth is at least a billion years old. Young earth believers are a pretty rare breed worldwide, we have education to ensure that "thank god". ha
Sadly I have relatives who forbid their kids from having anything to do with halloween. No dress up, no candy etc. They believe it's devil worship. Gad!
originally Christmas was the Germanic winter solstice and santa was saint nick
the norwads had their own version.the fat guy in the red suit gave candy and coal to get thru the winter then the church got involved and took it over
I think it is important to support Santa Claus. The entire "don't spoil it for the children' industry is so pervasive, so collusive... and then, one day, poof! Santa is a Myth. (Sorry, kids!) That just sets the stage for the later reveal about the whole Christian thing, and you come to believe that THAT MANY people would cooperate in perpetrating a story as being factual. Santa is a good precursor to Atheism because any argument for religion works for Santa too.
My parents never did that with me. To this day, we all like to speak fondly of Santa Claus. He's someone to look up to, and he is in no way is comparable to the God of the Bible.
Instead of kinda screwing your kids over and making them wait a week more than their friends to get gifts you ought to just celebrate on the winter solstice and let them have them a couple days early instead.
Halloween is a time when we can stuff our faces with candy, and watch pretty women dress like sluts. If that's not a reason to celebrate I don't know what is.
well i agree with this but im kinda lookin at it different cause i dont like religion but i like the base teachings of peace and love and understanding which no one really follows they just hate each other cause my religion is better than your and so on. and the greedy corporate asshats have taken all the holidays and turned them into greedy material holidays. which makes me sad. PENN WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT OCCUPY WALLSTREET BE HONEST
Actually Penn, there are those psychotic Christians that think Halloween is all evil.
They've even been trying to start something called "JesusWeen" (even though "HolyWeen" would have sounded better, but whatever) to replace their October 31st with going around and talking to people about Jesus. Fuck. The fundies suck the fun out of EVERYTHING. Can't have porn. Can't have science. Can't sleep in on Sundays. Fuck that noise. Give me my Sunday morning science porn!
@MagnusIan lol im catholic and i do what ever i want on sunday. i believe in science and i am no one to say the big bang didn't happen. hell, i'd be arrogant to say that there is a god because no one knows for a fact. i believe in a god but i have no mind to say "there is no god" or "there is a god" because that would be impossible to know.
@painokitos You, sir, are a typical Catholic. (i.e. Not a fundie asshole and pretty much like everyone else only maybe you might have a crucifix on the wall.)
The JesusWeen crowd are the whacko baptists, really. They can be quite ridiculous.
There's so much confusion about the Real meaning of holidays.
Take Easter for instance, people think Easter bunny and chocolate. When in reality Christ was crucified ,died and buried for our sins and three days later he miraculously rose from the tomb, saw his shadow and there were six more weeks of winter.
Christmas sucks it's become a competition to see who can spend the most on useless shit.
Halloween used to be awesome but our city screwed it up for the kids by holding some cheesy ass event. barely anyone gives out candy anymore because a vast majority of kids dont go out. at least we still got the halloween sluts.
I go to the USA every September, just as everybody is starting to gear up for Halloween and I love it. Every childish emotion & thrill I never had for Christmas, I feel around an American Halloween - it's all about fun, no religion, everybody's welcome, it's all inclusive. I love it.
What I hate is coming back home to the UK and having to deal with the Limp-Dick Halloween every shop tries to force on us. It sucks!
I still like xmas music as an atheist. Frank Sinatra singing he'll be home, if only in his dreams, or Perry Como singing about coming up to PA for some pumpkin pie... yeahhhh. Christmas is becoming more and more secular. I think it's the opposite for Halloween though. People seem more vocally against it today than when I was a kid, plus nobody trick-or-treats anymore. I end up with all the candy I bought.
Fuck Christmas, Hooray for Halloween. Hooray for atheists, Libertarians, Conservatives, and the Republican party because I'm an atheist Libertarian Conservative, that's also a member of the republican party.
Godiva is expensive? I never thought of it as expensive, and I have been to far more expensive candy stores. I was at a Halloween Trick or Treat event at a mall and Godiva gave away chocolate of their normal quality.
People are always talking shit on Witches. Yes, they believe in gods that are about as believable as Yahweh, but they don't shove it down other people's throats. They also don't harm anyone or anything (I am not counting the more voodoo sects which I do appose). Next to Atheists, they are the closest group to nature because nature defines their faith.
Here in Sweden, you can live thru the whole Christmas and never hear the name Jesus at all. See Tv and shopping, and no Jesus. If you do, it's rare and a accident, or if you want to.
Halloween is secular, Wiccans celebrate Samhain, on the same day, not Halloween. Samhain is much different, definitely not secular, but still incredibly silly.
im jus confused how is x-mas not secular? jus because you put up a tree and believe in santa doesn't make you a christian nor does it mean you believe in jesus, lots of people celebrate x-mas.
@CraCaJaC Yes but it's ties to Christianity upset some people. Personally I agree with you but I see why non-Christians wouldn't celebrate it. I'm Atheist but I celebrate Christmas every year. I see it as a time to spend with family, give gifts to the ones you love, and just another excuse for my dad to get drunk in front of the entire family.
@DoctorLazers exactly my man! its about family if jesus is real im pretty sure he would love the fact we celebrate his birth but i think he would also love the fact that its a holiday for families i mean the true story of gift giving comes from St.nicholas but imo its all jus semantics.......to anyone who reads this remember jus because something looks "christian" doesnt mean it is because alot of christian holidays revolve around some sort of pagan tradition.
I hate the gift exchange at christmas. I just feel that people know what they want and will get it if they need it. It's not like you are saving them money. They are buying you and other people presents. I want every holiday to be thanksgiving. Food and family is all you need.
He's obviously never experienced Halloween in Mexico (Día de los Muertos). Unlike Halloween here in the States, it's taken as a quite literal "day of the dead".
hey penn,just a heads up.there are people who do celebrate halloween.ts just that we do not rub it into peoples faces nor where it on our metaphorical sleeve like some people with thier stolen holidays...
I love Halloween. i am an Atheist and I also celebrate Christmas. Just because of the memories of Christmas as a kid. My best friend is also an Athiest and we both have a tree up, and I make dinner and exchange presents and the whole thing. But Halloween is awesome. I love candy and scary movies. People dressing up as freaks.
It's something he's always done to point out how powerful misdirection is. A good magician will have people looking where he wants them to look, to the point where they won't even notice a BRIGHT RED FINGERNAIL!! It's awesome.
@420simpson It's to honor his mom. When she was still alive he painted a nail just to be funny and he has been doing it ever since. She died a few years ago.
In my neighborhood, if someone dresses up as anything other than a disney character they will be brutally attacked by mothers with small children because they think that it is too scary for their kids. I am not kidding.
Christmas isn't a christian holiday anyway, at least not originially. It's a pagan festival. The winter solstice. It was hijacked by the Romans as a method of spreading christianity, by making it more appealing across europe by tying it in with the popular holidays around 350AD. The whole nativity story is a complete farce. You wont find anything in the bible about it. Not that the bible is a credible source for historic accounts as it is.
@dude157 Actually wait I read your last statement wrong, the Bible is actually pretty accurate on a purely historical level (not counting any of the miracles or anything supernatural) as many anthropologists and archaeologists have reported on. They have found tablets detailing the escape of israelites and so on. Not only that but the Bible is closer to the original source than any play or writings we have of any ancient writers. Not only that but after centuries of research people still can't
@monkeywolf So what? The Bible is accurate because those people lived through those events. The Epic of Gilgamesh made mention of a flood before the Bible was written. There was definitely a major flood. Does that mean the supernatural events of the Bible occurred? No, it's just a primitive type of science. People can't figure out why such things happen so they come up with different supernatural accounts. The political events? Again, they lived through it.
@NihilistSlacker Again I said IF YOU DISREGARD THE MIRACLES OR SUPERNATURAL come on people do you know how to read or do you just selectively choose to ignore things that prove you wrong? I literally said the Bible is a pretty accurate historical account if you cut out all of the supernatual stuff, such as people saying clouds of fire guided them somewhere, and that still doesn't disprove anything I said in fact you agreed with it. -_______-
@monkeywolf The fuck is the point of bringing it up then? Where are the people claiming that Bible has NOTHING right? Obviously the Bible documented many historical events. Anyone who claims otherwise is fucking stupid. That said, if you are trying to bring up a point what is it? Do you have some objective evidence for the Judeo-Christian god's existence and its miracles? Or are you just making the obvious statement that jews knew how to document historical events?
@NihilistSlacker umad!? Anyways, go backa nd read through the entire conversation then comment. You'll see why I brought it up and everything else. Then again you might just be an idiot. Either is fine with me.
@monkeywolf Mad? No. Idiot? Maybe. I read yo shit homie and I get what u sayin' mah brutha. When it comes to politics and events the Bible is usually spot on. I agree, the Bible was written by people who lived through those events and politics. I'm trying to drag out you your beliefs on the supernatural shit. I sorta sense you have a reason for bringing up the considerable accuracy of the Bible and I think religion may be involved. I pester all reasonably intelligent people into why they believe
@NihilistSlacker Well, you are truly an idiot, because you obviously still didn't read the entire conversation the person I first replied to basically everything in the Bible was false. He also detailed the originas of Christmas before hand. I pointed out to him that he was actually wrong, why? Because, again, if you take out the supernatural stuff the Bible is very accurate. I can tell you must be one of those raging atheists who think they are superior to people soooo I'll just say...Umad.
C. I fuckin' read the whole thing. Again, I agreed with everything you said. I simply sensed that maybe you had a religious conviction (as you were eager to put the misinformed ragetheist in his place) and I was trying to start a debate about that. Are you religious? If so why?
D. I dislike militant atheists as much as I despise militant religious loons.
@NihilistSlacker Funny you tell me to calm down when you're the one getting angry. Irony? Yes, yes it is. Pointing out someone is wrong automatically means I have bundles of bundles of religious convinction inside me? Or could it just be I was informing the person they were wrong and telling them why they were wrong? I think the second one makes more sense. If I am then I am if I am not then I am not. No debate needs to be started over that because it will simply go "religious loon!" in the end
@monkeywolf Lol. This has been a disaster of miscommunication. Probably on my part. Again, I was not stating you HAD religious convictions. I FELT you MAY have had them based on the anger in your response to the guy, who obviously didn't get what you were saying anyway. I didn't get angry or attack you either. Profanity is just how I roll.
Do you believe there is any objective evidence for the Judeo-Christian god? Yes or no? If yes, what is it? If no, don't reply.
@NihilistSlacker there isn't evidence one way or the other most atheist arguments are shallow and simple observations and most Christian arguments rely on faith and belief
@monkeywolf Thank you for that simple, but absolutely correct (in my humble opinion, anyway) answer. Well finally, we can agree on something (actually we did the whole time). Now, for everyone else's sake, I'll stop carpet bombing the comments section of this poor video.
You are, the whole area around the Red Sea is a constructive plate boundary, an extension of the Great Rift Valley. The most recent eruption in the area was the Nabro volcano in Eritrea, which erupted in June.
Check out the Global Volcanism Program's Volcanoes of the World website.
@monkeywolf To be honest I don't know. However, that story may not have originated in that region either, but again I don't know. The description though very much resembles a volcano that is active. It could be plausible that the pillar of smoke that "lead" them away was the ruler/leader/whatever's way of getting his\her\their people out of harm's way. Might also have given them the excuse they need to invade other lands in a less than peaceful manner. Just speculation of though.
@dude157 discredit the Bible 100% from a historical standpoint (getting into the spiritual stuff is just a matter of belief so it's pointless to talk about) or even 50% really.
@dude157 I enjoy how you ignore any other evidence to bring up that point. However, a massive flood happening during that time period has been confirmed to happened. Not only that studies have shown that an Ark built to the specifications as in the Bible, which is it pretty specific, was possible to have worked and could have been built. Now whether it was or not isn't proven and talking about a man getting every animal 2 by 2 onto the Ark is a more supernatural element.
No it has not. You are not fooling anyone. What evidence? all you have posted is your opinion, you have provided no sources to back up your retarded claims.
Please point out to me which part in the bible it says jesus was born dec 25th. The gospel of luke is a book written by the romans in order to clear their name for killing jesus blaming it on the jews instead of themselves. It also has the basis for the nativity, which is used to spread christianity across europe.
I enjoy how you ignore reality and continue to believe that shit. The whole concept is totally ridiculous. The guy (god) is supposed to create the universe and everything in it and all he can come up with to fix HIS problems is a flood and a massive genetic bottleneck. Non-sense
@mattshark100 ....Ironically you jumped to conclusions by saying I believe anything nor did you actually refute anything I said beyond saying "God can't do anything but make masss extinctions happen", you also ignore the point I said of "if you ignore the miracles or supernatural in the Bible" meaning you would ignore what you just brought up. Maybe if you READ the full conversation you wouldn't come off as an idiot.
No you are the idiot. You said there was a great flood, but that is psuedo science. There is no flood of the magnitude even closely resembling that of the bible requiring an ark being built. If you ignore the miracles or supernatural in the bible, not only is it boring, but it is still very vague and inaccurate. There is no way you could confirm any of the information in it and i doubt any of it happened, even moses trek is most likely false according to archaeologist ie FUCK YOU
@mattshark100 You obviously haven't researched anything you said and are clearly trying to troll. How do i know this? Simple historians and archaeologists have all found evidence of a mass Hebrew exodus from Egypt outside of the Bible, there are multiple records of a mass flood occuring in the Fertile Crescent velley where Noah would most likely have lived, also reports of a massive flood extend to China and Greece during the same timeframe. It isn't psuedo science and you should research it.
Rage? You effectively called me an idiot. All those flood events are small and localised. There is never been any confirmed finding of any piece of ark material and certainly no ark would have been created in time for a specific flood. The mass exodus has NOT been confirmed by archeaologists and there is no evidence of 40 years of wandering either. In fact the overwhelming evidence is that 'moses' people are not from egypt at all but a local isreal regional tribe.
@mattshark100 Wrong, there is evidence of a amss exodus from Egypt infact it was actually featured in National Geographic's magazine a while back. Look it up. No one said Hebrews were from Egypt, you obviously don't know the history of Hebrews, or else you would know this. Thank you for showing how little you actually know.
@mattshark100 Think before you type next time and let your rage simmer down. Go to any History Channel, Discovery Channel, Encyclopedia (book or website), or creditable website, as well as look at any History textbook and you will find everything there. Stop being ignorant.
Don't patronise me. Ignorance is believing anything in the bible, the book was written from verbal tradition in a backwater society centuries after the supposed events with no evidential system of anlysis in place, yet you buy it lock stock and barrel, that is by definition ignorance. It is better to believe maybe we have NO knoledge of that era than believe anything in that pile of dung known as the bible.
@mattshark100 Too bad the Bible si the most accurate text we have of the ancient word and if you wish to discount the Bible you have to litterally say that Julius Caesar, the books of Aristotle, Plato, every Greek play and epic poem, and Alexander the Great didn'f exist. Again you simply refuse to believe that somehow historians have agreed with the Bible. Again take out the miracles and the supernatural (like Thomas Jefferson did) and the Bible is very accurate to history. Learning please do it
We have a complete history of julius caesar. There are statues and relics of the era, yet none of the relics of the era can depict jesus, for example, even jesus as a man not a supernatural entity. The poems and epics of the mediteranean are often regarded as pure fiction because that is how they are written, much as the bible should be, don't tell me to go do some learning until you start using common sense. Greek philosophy is self evident, the bible is not.
@mattshark100 Bzzt wrong we DO have resources that depict Jesus during that timeframe are you really THIS out of touch with history? There are multiple accounts that DON'T just come from the Bible that tell of the Christian rising and of the execution of Jesus. Serisouly dude, all you keep saying is "this is regarded as fiction" without providing any sources to go fact check it. I have given you places to go fact check, hell you can even go to google and look it up. Come on man you fail.
YES, except that julius caesar has a bust and coinage, jesus has no description of his appearance, none of the modern churches have an accurate representation other than he would be a ruddy arabic looking round faced man. There are NOT multiple historical accounts of jesus outside the bible from the time of the actual events, even the new testament is written decades after the events. You failed to provide sources for your original argument so if i fail, you also fail.
@mattshark100 So wait.....because Julius Caesar has a bust that makes him more of a historical figure than a man who has more recordings of his journey than ANY OTHER historical figure? Homer also has a bust yet no one is positive he existed same with Socrates whose ONLY referrence for existence is from Plato. A bust isn't a proof of existence like most sculptures it's a form of art. Going by your definition the fact Michaelanglo did the Pieta means Jesus.
@monkeywolf what the hell, lets clarify. There are always floods in various parts of the world at various times and sometimes they coincide, but guess what, these are not the floods of the bible over mount ararat or whatever. Any flood in any coastal situation can occur at any time and provides no basis for the biblical hyperbole. As for the floods themselves, they are called flood myths because they are myths, true in one aspect that there ARE floods, but useless in proving biblical accuracy.
@mattshark100 The problem is though...you are ignoring the fact that nearly EVERY historian and anthropologist agree that a flood DID occur. Are you saying they are all wrong depsite them having degrees and hours upon hours of research in the field?
@monkeywolf No you are ignoring the fact that massive floods occur all the time, hundreds of thousands of people have died from tsunami and floods in the last decade, it's not new or special or specific and it isn't a historical revelation since the bible contains no reliable matched timetable to use as a basis for what it says. The history of the bible is designed to aggrandise the history of the people, rather than the probable truth which is "they were local tribesmen"
@mattshark100 Like I said you are still ignoring the fact that historians and most people studying the Bible have stated that a massive flood occurred, this is cross referrenced by sources OUTSIDE of the Bible and in cultures MILES away as occurring at roughly the same time as what is recorded in the Bible. Am I saying Noah made a massive ark? No. I am saying that a massive flood did occur however. Once more, look it up and use objective reasoning not your own hate.
@monkeywolf NO, there is no correlation between big floods and biblical canon, there is no reliable timeline in the bible so it is effectively meaningless. As for a worldwide flood, learn some science, there is not enough water in cycle in the last 20000 years for a flood of a truly massive magnitude, lesser floods happen regularly therefore floods are not historical markers for the bible.
@mattshark100 Are you stupid? Once more if there is no reliable timelime then howcome historians use it and actually agree, almost completely agree, that the Bible is historically accurate? Literally dude look it up it is all right there. Unlike what you are saying you can go to any of the sources I listed, History.com Natgeo discovery an encyclopedia. Hell you can even look at Wikipedia!
@monkeywolf Whatever, how about wiki "criticisms of the bible" then or maybe wiki "the bible and history" look up "biblical minimilism" and you'll see which camp i am in with regard to the bible as historical precedence. We disagree, it is irrelevant what we think anyway, but you'll see that your assertion that the bible is accurate is contestable and that is my point. Am i stupid, no i am not, i have a point of view that differs from yours. Sources how 'bout Zeev Herzog
@mattshark100 The problem is....your point of view isn't even backed by historians in anyway. In fact it is ignorant because all it does is flat out deny facts simply because it came from the Bible. That isn't being smart that's self-ignorance. I could say light isn't the fastest object in space, when clearly it is (ignoring recent findings at CERN) and what can you say against it? Nothing cause I will just keep saying light isn't the fastest thing in space. Self-ignornace.
@mattshark100 Also I never said my position wasn't contestable, really now I am convinced you are an idiot, I said if you take out everything supernatural the Bible is a very clear historical record. There is evidence of Pontius Pilate existing, evidence of there being a Jewish kingdom and two temples being built, etc etc etc. What you are doing is literally denying historical facts and you aren't proving ANY of them wrong. Even Atheists agree the Bible is very historically accurate so lol?
Bingo, you said "EVEN ATHEISTs". What sub group would that be that it requires "even" in front of it. Say how are those atheists going, look matey i denied the flood first off and i'm right, there was no world wide flood in human history, it is a myth, it is called "a flood myth" as in NOT real, no world wide flood, period.
@mattshark100 I said even Atheists because they aren't fond of Christianity (or religions in general), obviously, which lends credence to the Bible being historically accurate enough that Atheistic historians or scientists who want to discredit the Bible agree that the Bible is for the most part historically accurate. Also once more stories ofa amssive flood all appear at the same time in history all around the world. Please go to school and learn. You must be 12.
You always say that, yet you haven't named a single archaeologist that agrees with you, should be easy there are plenty. I named Herzog, you must have plenty.
@mattshark100 Lol so you name one person and you say it's proof you are right? Again the majority of Araechologists agree with what I have said, aka look up any archaelogoist chances are they agree. Bottlenecks and genetics don't prove a world wide flood didn't happen. Bottlenecks are localized events inside of a population of a specific animals (like Cheetahs) and as such couldn't be used tot race a worldwide flood.
@monkeywolf actually they do because a worldwide flood wold result in every species bottlenecking, thats fairly solid evidence, ps name someone its easy, just wiki it.
@mattshark100 Sigh I don't have to name one person I gave you entire channels and magazines to review like Nat Geo, History Channel, Discovery. Sorry I don't have every Archeologist memorized -____-
Well thanks for your time it's been interesting. I apologise for any personal insult i may have made and for disagreeing with your worldview. i have plenty of examples of where the bible is historically incorrect and there are plenty where it isn't, i suppose some of the facts would have to be right because somebody wrote it with history in mind. The bible is full of hyperbole and skewed in favour of the isrealites, in this, it is with a grain of salt, one must take any 'fact' init
@mattshark100 That's the key thing to remember, the Bible is an isrealite document of their history from their eyes. It isn't meant to objective, but subjective. Again I never said it's 100% correct, I just said it is probably the most accurate ancient document we have to date from a historical standpoint when you take out all of the stuff dealing with miracles.
Back to the start of this. You claim worldwide floods have been shown to occur. Evolutionary theory alone counters this. Essentials of Geology, Earth Science, American Scientist, Oceanus and 99.9% of all scientists agree with me. You have nothing now you can piss off.
@monkeywolf Yes it does moron, a giant world wide flood is not supported by evolutionary evidence. The genetic bottlenecks and molecular genetics point towards NO world wide flood event
@dude157 I tell people that all the time, and most of them accept my words but still make an excuse why they think of it as a christian holiday. It's America, folks; celebrate whatever you want, however you want.
Also slut is a gender neutral word. That is why people say "she's a slut". If it was gender specific you wouldn't need the she. So I can easily say "that dudes a slut" and it would be accurate.
Halloween! How I love Halloween. I've loved it since I was a kid.

Instead of kinda screwing your kids over and making them wait a week more than their friends to get gifts you ought to just celebrate on the winter solstice and let them have them a couple days early instead.

There's so much confusion about the Real meaning of holidays.
Take Easter for instance, people think Easter bunny and chocolate. When in reality Christ was crucified ,died and buried for our sins and three days later he miraculously rose from the tomb, saw his shadow and there were six more weeks of winter.

@CraCaJaC Yes but it's ties to Christianity upset some people. Personally I agree with you but I see why non-Christians wouldn't celebrate it. I'm Atheist but I celebrate Christmas every year. DoctorLazers 4 months ago

Not that the bible is a credible source for historic accounts as it is.
dude157 4 months ago 64
@dude157 Woah woah woah sir, the Nativity story is somewhat in the Bible. You can't say it all isn't there. Everything else is 100% correct.
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@dude157 Actually wait I read your last statement wrong, the Bible is actually pretty accurate on a purely historical level (not counting any of the miracles or anything supernatural) as many anthropologists and archaeologists have reported on. They have found tablets detailing the escape of israelites and so on. Not only that but the Bible is closer to the original source than any play or writings we have of any ancient writers. Not only that but after centuries of research people still can't
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf So what? The Bible is accurate because those people lived through those events. The Epic of Gilgamesh made mention of a flood before the Bible was written. There was definitely a major flood. Does that mean the supernatural events of the Bible occurred? No, it's just a primitive type of science. People can't figure out why such things happen so they come up with different supernatural accounts. The political events? Again, they lived through it.
NihilistSlacker 4 months ago
@NihilistSlacker Again I said IF YOU DISREGARD THE MIRACLES OR SUPERNATURAL come on people do you know how to read or do you just selectively choose to ignore things that prove you wrong? I literally said the Bible is a pretty accurate historical account if you cut out all of the supernatual stuff, such as people saying clouds of fire guided them somewhere, and that still doesn't disprove anything I said in fact you agreed with it. -_______-
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf The fuck is the point of bringing it up then? Where are the people claiming that Bible has NOTHING right? Obviously the Bible documented many historical events. Anyone who claims otherwise is fucking stupid. That said, if you are trying to bring up a point what is it? Do you have some objective evidence for the Judeo-Christian god's existence and its miracles? Or are you just making the obvious statement that jews knew how to document historical events?
NihilistSlacker 4 months ago
@NihilistSlacker umad!? Anyways, go backa nd read through the entire conversation then comment. You'll see why I brought it up and everything else. Then again you might just be an idiot. Either is fine with me.
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf Mad? No. Idiot? Maybe. I read yo shit homie and I get what u sayin' mah brutha. When it comes to politics and events the Bible is usually spot on. I agree, the Bible was written by people who lived through those events and politics. I'm trying to drag out you your beliefs on the supernatural shit. I sorta sense you have a reason for bringing up the considerable accuracy of the Bible and I think religion may be involved. I pester all reasonably intelligent people into why they believe
NihilistSlacker 4 months ago
@NihilistSlacker Well, you are truly an idiot, because you obviously still didn't read the entire conversation the person I first replied to basically everything in the Bible was false. He also detailed the originas of Christmas before hand. I pointed out to him that he was actually wrong, why? Because, again, if you take out the supernatural stuff the Bible is very accurate. I can tell you must be one of those raging atheists who think they are superior to people soooo I'll just say...Umad.
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf
A. Calm the fuck down brah.
B. I'm an agnostic/Deist, not a full out atheist.
NihilistSlacker 4 months ago
@NihilistSlacker Funny you tell me to calm down when you're the one getting angry. Irony? Yes, yes it is. Pointing out someone is wrong automatically means I have bundles of bundles of religious convinction inside me? Or could it just be I was informing the person they were wrong and telling them why they were wrong? I think the second one makes more sense. If I am then I am if I am not then I am not. No debate needs to be started over that because it will simply go "religious loon!" in the end
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf Lol. This has been a disaster of miscommunication. Probably on my part. Again, I was not stating you HAD religious convictions. I FELT you MAY have had them based on the anger in your response to the guy, who obviously didn't get what you were saying anyway. I didn't get angry or attack you either. Profanity is just how I roll.
Do you believe there is any objective evidence for the Judeo-Christian god? Yes or no? If yes, what is it? If no, don't reply.
NihilistSlacker 4 months ago
@NihilistSlacker there isn't evidence one way or the other most atheist arguments are shallow and simple observations and most Christian arguments rely on faith and belief
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf Thank you for that simple, but absolutely correct (in my humble opinion, anyway) answer. Well finally, we can agree on something (actually we did the whole time). Now, for everyone else's sake, I'll stop carpet bombing the comments section of this poor video.

You are, the whole area around the Red Sea is a constructive plate boundary, an extension of the Great Rift Valley. The most recent eruption in the area was the Nabro volcano in Eritrea, which erupted in June.

onehairybuddha 4 months ago
@monkeywolf To be honest I don't know. However, that story may not have originated in that region either, but again I don't know. The description though very much resembles a volcano that is active. It could be plausible that the pillar of smoke that "lead" them away was the ruler/leader/whatever's way of getting his\her\their people out of harm's way. Might also have given them the excuse they need to invade other lands in a less than peaceful manner. Just speculation of though.

monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf Are you suggesting things like Noah and his ark are historically accurate?
dude157 4 months ago
@dude157 I enjoy how you ignore any other evidence to bring up that point. However, a massive flood happening during that time period has been confirmed to happened. Not only that studies have shown that an Ark built to the specifications as in the Bible, which is it pretty specific, was possible to have worked and could have been built. Now whether it was or not isn't proven and talking about a man getting every animal 2 by 2 onto the Ark is a more supernatural element.
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf
It also has the basis for the nativity, which is used to spread christianity across europe.
dude157 4 months ago
@monkeywolf
I enjoy how you ignore reality and continue to believe that shit. The whole concept is totally ridiculous. The guy (god) is supposed to create the universe and everything in it and all he can come up with to fix HIS problems is a flood and a massive genetic bottleneck. Non-sense
mattshark100 4 months ago
@mattshark100 ....Ironically you jumped to conclusions by saying I believe anything nor did you actually refute anything I said beyond saying "God can't do anything but make masss extinctions happen", you also ignore the point I said of "if you ignore the miracles or supernatural in the Bible" meaning you would ignore what you just brought up. Maybe if you READ the full conversation you wouldn't come off as an idiot.
monkeywolf 4 months ago
@monkeywolf
No you are the idiot. You said there was a great flood, but that is psuedo science. There is no flood of the magnitude even closely resembling that of the bible requiring an ark being built. If you ignore the miracles or supernatural in the bible, not only is it boring, but it is still very vague and inaccurate. There is no way you could confirm any of the information in it and i doubt any of it happened, even moses trek is most likely false according to archaeologist ie FUCK YOU
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 You obviously haven't researched anything you said and are clearly trying to troll. How do i know this? Simple historians and archaeologists have all found evidence of a mass Hebrew exodus from Egypt outside of the Bible, there are multiple records of a mass flood occuring in the Fertile Crescent velley where Noah would most likely have lived, also reports of a massive flood extend to China and Greece during the same timeframe. It isn't psuedo science and you should research it.
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf
In fact the overwhelming evidence is that 'moses' people are not from egypt at all but a local isreal regional tribe.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 Wrong, there is evidence of a amss exodus from Egypt infact it was actually featured in National Geographic's magazine a while back. Look it up. monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf
Don't patronise me. Ignorance is believing anything in the bible, the book was written from verbal tradition in a backwater society centuries after the supposed events with no evidential system of anlysis in place, yet you buy it lock stock and barrel, that is by definition ignorance. It is better to believe maybe we have NO knoledge of that era than believe anything in that pile of dung known as the bible.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 Too bad the Bible si the most accurate text we have of the ancient word and if you wish to discount the Bible you have to litterally say that Julius Caesar, the books of Aristotle, Plato, every Greek play and epic poem, and Alexander the Great didn'f exist. Again you simply refuse to believe that somehow historians have agreed with the Bible. Again take out the miracles and the supernatural (like Thomas Jefferson did) and the Bible is very accurate to history. Learning please do it
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf
Greek philosophy is self evident, the bible is not.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 Bzzt wrong we DO have resources that depict Jesus during that timeframe are you really THIS out of touch with history? There are multiple accounts that DON'T just come from the Bible that tell of the Christian rising and of the execution of Jesus. Serisouly dude, all you keep saying is "this is regarded as fiction" without providing any sources to go fact check it. I have given you places to go fact check, hell you can even go to google and look it up. Come on man you fail.
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf
You failed to provide sources for your original argument so if i fail, you also fail.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 So wait.....because Julius Caesar has a bust that makes him more of a historical figure than a man who has more recordings of his journey than ANY OTHER historical figure? Homer also has a bust yet no one is positive he existed same with Socrates whose ONLY referrence for existence is from Plato. A bust isn't a proof of existence like most sculptures it's a form of art. Going by your definition the fact Michaelanglo did the Pieta means Jesus.
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf what the hell, lets clarify. There are always floods in various parts of the world at various times and sometimes they coincide, but guess what, these are not the floods of the bible over mount ararat or whatever. Any flood in any coastal situation can occur at any time and provides no basis for the biblical hyperbole. As for the floods themselves, they are called flood myths because they are myths, true in one aspect that there ARE floods, but useless in proving biblical accuracy.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 The problem is though...you are ignoring the fact that nearly EVERY historian and anthropologist agree that a flood DID occur. Are you saying they are all wrong depsite them having degrees and hours upon hours of research in the field?
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf No you are ignoring the fact that massive floods occur all the time, hundreds of thousands of people have died from tsunami and floods in the last decade, it's not new or special or specific and it isn't a historical revelation since the bible contains no reliable matched timetable to use as a basis for what it says. The history of the bible is designed to aggrandise the history of the people, rather than the probable truth which is "they were local tribesmen"
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 Like I said you are still ignoring the fact that historians and most people studying the Bible have stated that a massive flood occurred, this is cross referrenced by sources OUTSIDE of the Bible and in cultures MILES away as occurring at roughly the same time as what is recorded in the Bible. Am I saying Noah made a massive ark? No. I am saying that a massive flood did occur however. Once more, look it up and use objective reasoning not your own hate.
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf NO, there is no correlation between big floods and biblical canon, there is no reliable timeline in the bible so it is effectively meaningless. As for a worldwide flood, learn some science, there is not enough water in cycle in the last 20000 years for a flood of a truly massive magnitude, lesser floods happen regularly therefore floods are not historical markers for the bible.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 Are you stupid? Once more if there is no reliable timelime then howcome historians use it and actually agree, almost completely agree, that the Bible is historically accurate? Literally dude look it up it is all right there. Unlike what you are saying you can go to any of the sources I listed, History.com Natgeo discovery an encyclopedia. Hell you can even look at Wikipedia!
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf Whatever, how about wiki "criticisms of the bible" then or maybe wiki "the bible and history" look up "biblical minimilism" and you'll see which camp i am in with regard to the bible as historical precedence. We disagree, it is irrelevant what we think anyway, but you'll see that your assertion that the bible is accurate is contestable and that is my point. Am i stupid, no i am not, i have a point of view that differs from yours. Sources how 'bout Zeev Herzog
mattshark100 3 months ago

Even Atheists agree the Bible is very historically accurate so lol?
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf
Bingo, you said "EVEN ATHEISTs". What sub group would that be that it requires "even" in front of it. Say how are those atheists going, look matey i denied the flood first off and i'm right, there was no world wide flood in human history, it is a myth, it is called "a flood myth" as in NOT real, no world wide flood, period.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 I said even Atheists because they aren't fond of Christianity (or religions in general), obviously, which lends credence to the Bible being historically accurate enough that Atheistic historians or scientists who want to discredit the Bible agree that the Bible is for the most part historically accurate. Also once more stories ofa amssive flood all appear at the same time in history all around the world. Please go to school and learn. You must be 12.

@monkeywolf
You always say that, yet you haven't named a single archaeologist that agrees with you, should be easy there are plenty. I named Herzog, you must have plenty.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 Lol so you name one person and you say it's proof you are right? Again the majority of Araechologists agree with what I have said, aka look up any archaelogoist chances are they agree. Bottlenecks and genetics don't prove a world wide flood didn't happen. Bottlenecks are localized events inside of a population of a specific animals (like Cheetahs) and as such couldn't be used tot race a worldwide flood.
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf actually they do because a worldwide flood wold result in every species bottlenecking, thats fairly solid evidence, ps name someone its easy, just wiki it.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 Sigh I don't have to name one person I gave you entire channels and magazines to review like Nat Geo, History Channel, Discovery. Sorry I don't have every Archeologist memorized -____-

@monkeywolf
The bible is full of hyperbole and skewed in favour of the isrealites, in this, it is with a grain of salt, one must take any 'fact' init
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 That's the key thing to remember, the Bible is an isrealite document of their history from their eyes. It isn't meant to objective, but subjective. Again I never said it's 100% correct, I just said it is probably the most accurate ancient document we have to date from a historical standpoint when you take out all of the stuff dealing with miracles.

@monkeywolf
Back to the start of this. You claim worldwide floods have been shown to occur. Evolutionary theory alone counters this. Essentials of Geology, Earth Science, American Scientist, Oceanus and 99.9% of all scientists agree with me. You have nothing now you can piss off.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 ...You're wrong though Evolution doesn't contradict anything that's been said, you really are an idiot aren't you?
monkeywolf 3 months ago
@monkeywolf Yes it does moron, a giant world wide flood is not supported by evolutionary evidence. The genetic bottlenecks and molecular genetics point towards NO world wide flood event

@monkeywolf
Anyway, i'm done arguing with you, your actually beginning to bore me.
mattshark100 3 months ago
@mattshark100 Only because you can't actually counter anything you say with actual facts.

@dude157 The Nativity Story is in the book of Matthew... Not that comments from randoms on YouTube are credible sources for anything...

@smiledammit24 It doesn't matter if it's in scripture or not; it's still a farce.

@dude157 I tell people that all the time, and most of them accept my words but still make an excuse why they think of it as a christian holiday. It's America, folks; celebrate whatever you want, however you want.
cyanmanta 4 months ago
@dude157 ummm christmas itself isnt a christian holiday nor never has been

Also slut is a gender neutral word. That is why people say "she's a slut". If it was gender specific you wouldn't need the she. So I can easily say "that dudes a slut" and it would be accurate.
