The Director of the House of Theosophy, Bill Lambert, declares that the Roman Catholic Pope is going to be a "proper receptor" to the Antichrist and will be the Supreme Leader of the new global religion of the Antichrist. This part of the New World Order Plan labels the Pope as the Biblical False Prophet.
I appreciate you as a fellow Christian. You you are a scripturally educated Catholic and I believe you have a firm and personal faith in our blessed Lord Jesus as your Saviour. But I think you must also realize that you are a rare commodity in the nominal Roman Catholic Church. May God unite us in Christ!
Smh96 God bless you. Those who are not Catholic should really do some research on our faith first. We were the first Church, instituted by Christ. There have been miracles done, and scientifically admitted that when a physical transubstantiation occurred, they were actually transformed into blood and flesh, particularly heart tissue and type AB blood. Also, they should look at Fatima and the miracle of the Sun, where 70,000 people witnessed the miracle.

We are to put Christ first, above EVERYTHING, even self which can be the ultimate hurdle. He gave it all for us on the cross and expects us to do the same. 1 Corinthians 10 taken in context is warning against divided loyalty. Isn't committing to live a life totally surrendered to God more meaningful than any religious observance?
Wouldn’t “participation in the body and blood of Christ” be what’s described in Luke 26-27 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. And 33, “In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.”
Smh96 - I am a strong supporter of the Catholic Church. That being said...with deep respect I ask you to not criticize people for their spelling or do anything that diminishes the delivery of your argument. Although my degree is in business and I spent most of my career in the military, Christian apologetics is one of my greatest passions. The argument you present is logically sound, though your delivery needs more love. Trust me on this one brother and keep defending our Church. God Bless You!
I do read history. I have academic credentials, you do not. And now there is another thing that separates us, I can comment on this wall and you cannot. You are blocked, your comments are deleted. Learn how to spell, learn correct grammar, and actually open up a history book instead of going to some anti-catholic website. Have a nice day.
Freedom of speech applies to spoken language in PUBLIC. This is MY youtube video comment board, and I'm in charge here. The constitution doesn't mean I can't delete your idiotic comments full of poor spelling and grammar.
My issue with you is you don't BACK UP WHAT YOU SAY. If you did, I wouldn't delete what you say. So don't make this out to be me hating free speech. I hate STUPID, UNINTELLIGENT SPEECH. So either shape up or ship out. Final warning.
Hamlets, I warned you. If you want to play historian, you have to BACK UP what you say. I have a history BA; I know what I am talking about. You, apparently, do not. So if you want to be taken seriously, and not have your post deleted, then you are going to have to provide SOURCES that back up your claims. Burden of proof is on you, the one making the wild assertions. PLEASE don't make another comment if you aren't going to back yourself up. I will just delete it.
Oh, and if you continue to post without backing up your assertions, then I will promptly delete your comments. If you bring evidence to the table to support your "Constantine started Catholicism" rant, then I won't delete them. But as of now, it appears you are just regurgitating an anti-catholic urban legend with no more support that the bogus argument that Constantine put the canon of the Bible together at Nicaea.
Hamlets, you are being absurd. You wanna play historian? Okay, let's go. Provide historical EVIDENCE to support your assertions. And no, I don't mean expect us to believe anything you say on the basis of your own authority. Try citing primary and secondary sources. It seems to me that you are taking the date of the famous Edict of Milan, signed by Constantine and Licinius, and acting as if that is the date when Catholicism started. Very amateurish. What is your evidence?
Thank you for responding. Many non-catholics do not understand catholic doctrine because some protestant clergy twist the facts. I speak from first hand experience because my grandparents are evangelical pentecostals and don't understand my catholic faith as a result of their pastors.
To the Protestant anti-Catholics: The Catholic Church is not anti-Messiah. Most Catholics meet the requirement of Romans 10:9 (as a matter of fact if they dont meet the Romans 10:9 requirement they really arent Catholic). So anyone who says that Catholics are anti-Messiah is lying. Be a good steward of the time Jesus gave you on this earth and preach the Gospel to people who cant say Jesus is Lord rather than proselytizing Catholics who already can say Jesus is Lord.
HEIL! CONSTANTINE HEIL! CONSTANTINE the father and founder of the ROMAN catolic sect in the yr 313 and dont forget that constantine also founded the old basilica of st peter
history and archaelogy proves 100% that the ROMAN catolic sect didnt exist before the yr 313 , early christians had to worship underground or in caves , dont forget that christianity was punished by death in ROME
read history my friend , the armenian catolic church ,is the oldest , because armenia ,was the first country to adopt christianity in the yr 301 and they claim that the apostle bartolomev and thaddeus as the founders , but the father and founder of the ROMAN catolic sect was constantine ,in the yr 313, end of argument
and many christian churches including the armenian catolic church broke relations with the ROMAN catolic sect because the ROMAN catolic sect persecuted chrisitians and other religions like the cathars and muslims in the crusades
HEIL! CONSTANTINE HEIL! CONSTANTINE the father and founder of the ROMAN catolic sect in the yr 313 and dont forget that constantine also built the old basilica of st peter, end of argument
Thank you for this. It is a breath of fresh air to see Catholics defending their faith from what seems to be an unforgiving onslaught of senseless bashing that often is rooted in little or no knowledge of the Catholic faith itself. Well spoken rebuttal.
If a literal interpretation of John 6 is correct, then the Eucharist indeed provides salvation. As for Jesus' finished work on the cross, WHERE in the OT was a single animal sacrifice reduced solely to the death of the animal? Anyone in Israel could slay the lamb or goat. The true priestly role was offering up the slain animal after the fact by bringing the blood into the sanctuary of the temple. That is what Jesus did (Hebrews 9) and what He continues to do. His sacrifice is ongoing.
Great job, non-catholics do not attack what the church teaches, they attack what the church DOESN'T teach. If they knew what the church teaches, they would be in the church. when i found out what the church teaches I became Catholic
When we are saved Jesus has traded us His righteousness for our sin,His righteousness has been imputed to us,we are made perfect through this positionally.God no longer sees us as the filthy rags we truly are,but sees us through the filter of Jesus' blood. This shows us that if purgatory existed, then Jesus' sacrifice was not sufficient to remove our sin and we are still in them.
That isn't the doctrine of purgatory. purgatory are for those who WILL DEFINITELY go to heaven, but they have to be purged of their inclination of sin. God doesn't impute anything on us, if he did, we won't have the free will to choose to do wrong or do right. Or is it that you don't chose to do wrong at all?
It makes no sense, seeing that we all do wrong at some point in life
First off, we aren't filthy rags. That reference from Isaiah never says all peoples' works are filthy rags, Protestants misuse it. Also, in your view of imputation, God doesn't see us as we ARE, and is therefore imperfect or a liar. As for the sufficiency of the cross, did it save all men? No, because universalism is false. So it needs to be applied to each believer. The question is then whether it applies in one lump sum or progressively.
If the sacrifice of Christ applies to us progressively, and is linked to our SANCTIFICATION which is a real, objective thing, rather than a legal fiction of a justification...if justification is based on an infusion of grace rather than a fake, fictitious imputation of it...then purgatory makes plenty of sense.
Catholic/Protestant arguments always linger on secondary issues and don't get to the meat. The bottom-line issue is that the Pope has no real credible claim to be the unique successor to St. Peter. Rome was hot just because it was the capital. The RC's leadership claims privileges it simply doesn't have. All authority has its scope - the RC says it has right to rule over every person's conscience, so it's claims of authority exceed all boundaries. There is no reason every Christian must be Cath.
Some Prots are rude in their comments about the Church, but remember that they're responding to claims that you must be Catholic to be saved. Ideas like Petrine Supremacy and Apostolic Succession collapse if you look into them (which "apostolic church" is the one true one? The RC or the Orthodox?). The Vatican has blatantly earthy ambitions and its claim to be God's regent on earth has no real Biblical basis, just Catholic tradition, which contains many fanciful tales that just aren't true.
No, they don't collapse if you look at them. You give me a LOT of rhetoric here but precious little substance. And the role of Pope as Vicar of Christ has a distinct biblical basis. How do YOU understand the giving of the keys of the kingdom? Is your interpretation historical (related to what those terms and expressions meant) or based on the Protestant invention that everyone has the keys and all they mean is to preach the Gospel?
Well, sometimes they get to the meat (which is either the authority issue as you note, or soteriology. Luther thanked Erasmus for dealing with the latter rather than the papacy, purgatory, etc., since it got at the heart of the matter). As for your claims, I'm afraid that history does not back you up. Rome's primacy cannot be attributed solely or even primarily to Rome's status as the capital. No Church Father held that view, that is your anachronism. And what SHOULD every Christian be?
Sorry for the clutter, but let me write about the ethics of some fundamentalists/evangelicals.
I found the same misquote on 4 websites - one was even a Baptist church's, 2 were quasi Christian sites.
I emailed each in a civil manner stating the error and including a link. 1 wrote back saying "nice try, but the words mean the same thing" Yeah, sure.
Another wrote back saying he c&p the quote without mentioning from where, but didn't have time to verify.
I feel obligated to update my adjacent post regarding an anti Catholic misquote on four websites and the owners' unwillingness to change it.... May I have some salt with this 1/4 dose of crow?
A rep from one of the four websites, a Calvanist organization, emailed me and wrote that he'd forward my message to the author. The author emailed me - albeit with a hint of hostility - writing that he changed it but that he included Webster's definitions of the word "devotion". Fair enough, thanks.
I cannot get the long link to post regardless of what I try. Send me an email message and I'll be happy to forward the link to the Vatican's website of the entire speech in question, including the date in question of the speech verified.

Now you understand why I passionately denounce Catholicism. They defend evolutionism against biblical creationism, labeling it as "useless." This secular theory of evolution is biblically incompatible!
Yes, that headline is distressing, but upon reading the article, it looks like Fox is back into the "spin zone" using it.
"Creationism from a strictly theological view makes sense, but when it is used in scientific fields it becomes useless," Is what Ravasi said.
"Schoenborn has said he wants to correct what he says is a widespread misconception that the Catholic Church has given blanket endorsement to Darwin's theories."
But you're right, there is no blanket denial either.
From what I understand, the church does not want to flat deny evolution in the face of so much scientific evidence. I, like you, would love to see Darwin's theory regarding evolution of man debunked - (birds and fish ok).
Saw a great 2 hr PBS show last week re court trail: evolution vs intelligent design. Seemed to have compelling evidence against evolution when they discovered apes have 24 chromosomes; humans 23- but then they say 2 merged. Maybe next anti Darwin discovery can't be denied.
Jesus gave us His body. Why do you Catholics continue to crucify Jesus through the pagan procession of transubstantiation, in which clergymen administer man-made wafers & grape juice (or wine) and through some chant and "mystery" the wafers become the body of Christ (cough) and the grape juice, probably concentrated (or cheap wine), becomes the literal blood of Christ? Do you actually expect anyone to believe this load of lies? Jesus gave His literal body nearly 2,000 years ago at Calvary. Amen!
What can I say except, "Let the battle be joined"? You come onto my video comment board and post as many attacks on Catholicism as you can. That's what the anti-catholic, anti-intellectuals do. I would appreciate it if, instead of rhetoric, your provided a cogent argument on ONE topic for the purposes of us having a legitimate debate - either in written form or by way of a video.
"That's what the anti-catholic, anti-intellectuals do."
I'm not anti-Catholic, and as you'll painfully discover, I'm certainly not anti-intellectual.
"I would appreciate it if ... you provided a cogent argument on ONE topic"
Why? Did I overwhelm you with argumentations?
"for the purposes of us having a legitimate debate"
I'm not here to debate, though I'll never wither from one. I'm here to illuminate the internal corruption, unbiblical dogmas, and unlawful practices of Roman Catholicism.
Gabeedmann posts the same garbage all over You Tube. I and others have addressed his false accusations and illogical biblical interpretations to no avail. You might as well write to Santa Claus.
graven (adj) - Carved or sculptured, as in an idol.
Catholic cathedrals are absolutely profuse with idols of dead Mary and dead saints. Yes, I said dead. They're deceased and their earthly bones bear witness. They're spiritually alive and dwelling in Heaven with Christ. They must be shaking their heads at Catholics who have IDOLIZED them since the Middle Ages. I've seen Catholics literally praying to those statuettes.
All authoritative, canonical Scripture is found located in our Bibles today.
"From a child, you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
We ought to obey our Heavenly Father rather than any supposed "mother" that Catholicism attempts to appoint unto us.
You Catholics say, "We love our Mother, dad, sisters, brothers..."
However, Jesus himself said, "Who is my mother? Who are my brethren?" He stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, "Behold my mother and my brethren! For whoever shall do the will of my Father which is in Heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

"You shall not make unto thee any GRAVEN IMAGE, or ANY likeness of anything that is in Heaven above, on Earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that HATE ME, and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."
"Membership in the Militia means complete dedication to the Kingdom of God and to the SALVATION OF SOULS through MARY IMMACULATE."
-Pope John Paul II
Pope John Paul II personal motto, embroidered on his robes in Latin, read: "TOTUS TUUS SUM MARIA", which in English translates as: "MARY, I'M ALL YOURS."
"We have an advocate in Mary that the father, Son, and Holy Spirit cannot say no to. It is impossible for them to say no to her!
Pope John Paul II stated, "It is possible to understand the authentic meaning of MARIAN WORSHIP in the ecclesial community" (Vatican Information Service, May 7, 1997).
John Paul II underlined that "the history of Christian piety teaches that MARY IS THE PATH THAT LEADS TO CHRIST" (Ibid.)
He concluded by asking all Christians "to make room (for Mary) in their daily lives, acknowledging her PROVIDENTIAL ROLE in the path of SALVATION." (Ibid.)
Why would jesus say "render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasars" knowing that taxes paid to the roman s financed their conquests that killed thousands of innocent people?????
Why throughout the bible does God just make Himself known to one person, and then that person has to go and try to convince the people about God??? If God would just appear to the entire world and tell everyone to behave and love one another it would be a beautiful world......
He makes himself know to a person because that person seeked him with all of his heart. The prophets seeked God as if they were looking for a treasure. if you do the same you will find him.
If you dont know why someone had to pay the price and why god had to come as a human, then you dont know jesus. But seek him him with all your heart and you will find him and will give you revelationsof things to come. I can testify 2 these things
if you dont find God thats because you not doing it with your heart. You dont desire him above all things and you prety much have not giving up your life for him.
Look it takes a while for some and for others its quick. Above all God knows what you really desire.
not a srawman at all my friend, three people in one God so if she gave birth to the son who is God then she gave birth to God which cant be......and looking at what I wrote three PERSONS in one God PERSONS...all concocted by humans...
Mabey you also read revelation 21:8-8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.
the catholic church is filled with idols, im sure you would know that because you obviously do your research.
doesnt anyone out there wonder why God had his son born to a human woman????...he created the universe, for what reason would he have to have his son metamorphisise back to an embryo be carried for 9 months and born a human?????? crazy stuff...
Because someone had to pay the price. First of all christ satisfied all the demands of the law, then he interposed and drank the cup of Gods wrath for us. isaiah 53 says yet it was the lords will to crush him and cause him to suffer.
The reason christ came to die for us is because he was the only person who can do it, because he is worth than all the humans and angels combined.
thats not what i was talking about, i was talking about why Jesus, who is God have to come to earth become an embryo and be born to a human, why not just metamorphisize and then walk into a village...
hes the only person?????? God is not a Person......this backs the phrase...man made God in his image.....hey underoath, do you believe the book of genesis???
42"What do you think about the Christ[a]? Whose son is he?""The son of David," they replied.43He said to them, "How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him 'Lord'? For he says,44" 'The Lord said to my Lord:"Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet." '[b] 45If then David calls him 'Lord,' how can he be his son?"
Doesnt the pope supposedly have the power to add whatever he wants to scripture??? Also theres only one high priest and his name is Jesus??? And all in him are of the same level of righteousness, works/rituals dont merit righteousness neither does self justification, we will all see one day.
So ritualistic what would jesus say??? Makes you wonder, we are saved by grace not by works....plus didnt the catholics add to the bible, guess they dont have the book of revelation??? Lets keep them in our prayers, that the real peace of christ may be found for all catholics
Wow hillgrant, your obvious ivy-league education and flawless research really shine through in this comment.
The RCC added nothing to the Bible, Luther et al SUBTRACTED the books that did not agree with his ego. A simple wiki search would be a good place to start.
The Catholic Bible has the book of "Apocolypse" what heretics call "Revelations", they are the same book.
I have a question for you Smh96 - I'm not bashing, I'm just curious. I'm protestant and my boyfriend is Catholic... neither of us believe in purgatory. Sanctification is becoming Christ like. But nobody on earth even after salvation of sins is perfect. But Christ's blood COVERS us and our sins. As far as the east is to the west our sins have been forgiven...and forgotten. What about when Jesus was dying on the cross and He says to the thief next to him, "TODAY you will be with me in paradise"?
I know you addressed your question to Smh96, but please allow me to try and explain Purgatory.
One of the most vivid and straight forward descriptions of Purgatory in the Bible is 1Cor. 3:12-15. "Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each mans work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. (cont'd)
...If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any mans work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire"
This passage can not be referring to people in Hell, because it says "himself will be saved" There will be no salvation from Hell. Heaven is also out of the question since there is no suffering in Heaven. So, where will this trial by fire occur?
There is much much more about Purgatory in the Bible, but for the sake of brevity that is all for now. Let me just leave you with a final thought.
Purgatory is a GOOD thing. Since nothing defiled can enter Heaven (Rev. 21:27) Purgatory purges us of all sin before entering Heaven (provided we are fortunate enough, that is). Without it, we would have no chance at all.
that is not purgatory, that is the judgement seat of Christ. The Judgement seat of Christ, is that our works are judged, this NOT a desicion on if we go to heaven or not, this is to decide your position in heaven. When we trust in Jesus Christ as our savior, our sin got purged when we accepted Christ as our savior. So when we die if we trusted in Christ as our savior, we go directly to heaven, no need of purgatory.
Hello I'm just a viewer of the debates and i just wanted to first say God Bless You Prchdaword and Smh96. You guys both display much scholarly devotion and zeal in the positive connotation of the word and I want to thank you both for expressing your believes in the mature manner that you are. Obviously debates can get heated and its understandable so I believe regardless you are both being used as instruments of the Spirit. Very good points on both ends, however, i myself will remain Catholic.
Yes, I agree that the Bible is not infallible and I often point this out to people. I get caught up in calling it infallible because so many people I debate with call it such. Bad habits creep in. People can be infallible, incapable of error, but things like books cannot be. I'd actually prefer the term "inerrant" to infallible, typically - the Bible is inspired and inerrant.
hey underoath.....no i dont think the bible is perfect, and if it is the word of god i think it should be perfect..did you know that in the OT God instructs the people to stone to death: Homosexuals, women who arent found to be virgins at their marriage and disobedient children, thats the word of an all loving God?
If he is just he must condem all people because it is written for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
But thats why jesus came. He came to drink the full cup of gods wrath and took our sins up with him and was crushed by God the father. Now the law has been satified by Jesus living a perfect life and drinking the cup of wrath that should be falling upon us.
Now jesus has authority to forgive but remeber he doesnt forgive like we forgive. He says, "my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Anyone who doesnt repent and life is changed by the power of God will be condenmd. Read also matthew 7:13-29 if you dont understand let me know, ill be glad to help you out.
How can the lord justify the wicked that should be condemnd?
He sent his son so that through him we will have life. That means we repent and believe the gospel. That means you die to sin and become alive in christ. and ofcouse your gonna sin again, everyone sins, but if you ask for forgivness, he will be just and will forgive you.
If my son committed numerous terrible crimes I wouldnt throw him in a furnace...i would help him....if he didnt accept my help iwouldnt throw him in a furnace....
Yes, the Bible is the inspired, God-breathed Word of God, and is thus INERRANT, but not infallible. Inerrant means without error, which the Bible is. However, infallibile means unable to teach error. The Bible can teach error (that is, people can misinterpret it. See 2 Peter 1:20 and 2 Peter 3).
The by your aforementioned logic, a Pope is not infallible because people can misinterpret it.
And the ability to clarify something is irrelevant. If it can be misinterpreted the source is not infallible, so therefore, the Pope is not infallible.
Catholic dogmas like indulgences, transubstantiation, purgatory, Immaculate Conception, Assumption of Mary, papal infallibility, Mary as Redemptrix and Mediatrix, priesthood confession, idolatrous Marian statuettes, prayers to/for the deceased (necromancy), and Confirmation rites are biblically unfounded! The Papacy continually propagates insidious dogmas. Their blasphemous, damnable, heretical, unfounded, unbiblical, and outright unhistorical mythoi are leading millions astray.
I would agree with you that all of those doctrines are ill-founded or unfounded, but just to clarify, the Catholic Church has not defined Mary as Co-redemptrix or mediatrix as a dogma of the faith, to my knowledge any ways.
Also, mind not just simply sniping and running off rather than actually defending the claims you make?

Wouldn’t “participation in the body and blood of Christ” be what’s described in Luke 26-27 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. And 33, “In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.”

Smh96 2 years ago
Oh, and if you continue to post without backing up your assertions, then I will promptly delete your comments. If you bring evidence to the table to support your "Constantine started Catholicism" rant, then I won't delete them. But as of now, it appears you are just regurgitating an anti-catholic urban legend with no more support that the bogus argument that Constantine put the canon of the Bible together at Nicaea.
Smh96 2 years ago
Hamlets, you are being absurd. You wanna play historian? Okay, let's go. Provide historical EVIDENCE to support your assertions. And no, I don't mean expect us to believe anything you say on the basis of your own authority. Try citing primary and secondary sources. It seems to me that you are taking the date of the famous Edict of Milan, signed by Constantine and Licinius, and acting as if that is the date when Catholicism started. Very amateurish. What is your evidence?
Smh96 2 years ago

The Eucharist does not infuse salvation into a believer,The belief in Jesus finished work on the cross does.
CBALLEN 2 years ago
If a literal interpretation of John 6 is correct, then the Eucharist indeed provides salvation. As for Jesus' finished work on the cross, WHERE in the OT was a single animal sacrifice reduced solely to the death of the animal? Anyone in Israel could slay the lamb or goat. The true priestly role was offering up the slain animal after the fact by bringing the blood into the sanctuary of the temple. That is what Jesus did (Hebrews 9) and what He continues to do. His sacrifice is ongoing.

CBALLEN 2 years ago
That isn't the doctrine of purgatory. purgatory are for those who WILL DEFINITELY go to heaven, but they have to be purged of their inclination of sin. God doesn't impute anything on us, if he did, we won't have the free will to choose to do wrong or do right. Or is it that you don't chose to do wrong at all?
It makes no sense, seeing that we all do wrong at some point in life
ESEME11 2 years ago
First off, we aren't filthy rags. That reference from Isaiah never says all peoples' works are filthy rags, Protestants misuse it. Also, in your view of imputation, God doesn't see us as we ARE, and is therefore imperfect or a liar. As for the sufficiency of the cross, did it save all men? No, because universalism is false. So it needs to be applied to each believer. The question is then whether it applies in one lump sum or progressively.
Smh96 2 years ago
If the sacrifice of Christ applies to us progressively, and is linked to our SANCTIFICATION which is a real, objective thing, rather than a legal fiction of a justification...if justification is based on an infusion of grace rather than a fake, fictitious imputation of it...then purgatory makes plenty of sense.
Smh96 2 years ago
Catholic/Protestant arguments always linger on secondary issues and don't get to the meat. The bottom-line issue is that the Pope has no real credible claim to be the unique successor to St. Peter. Rome was hot just because it was the capital. The RC's leadership claims privileges it simply doesn't have. All authority has its scope - the RC says it has right to rule over every person's conscience, so it's claims of authority exceed all boundaries. There is no reason every Christian must be Cath.
xinosaj 2 years ago
Some Prots are rude in their comments about the Church, but remember that they're responding to claims that you must be Catholic to be saved. Ideas like Petrine Supremacy and Apostolic Succession collapse if you look into them (which "apostolic church" is the one true one? The RC or the Orthodox?). The Vatican has blatantly earthy ambitions and its claim to be God's regent on earth has no real Biblical basis, just Catholic tradition, which contains many fanciful tales that just aren't true.
xinosaj 2 years ago
No, they don't collapse if you look at them. You give me a LOT of rhetoric here but precious little substance. And the role of Pope as Vicar of Christ has a distinct biblical basis. How do YOU understand the giving of the keys of the kingdom? Is your interpretation historical (related to what those terms and expressions meant) or based on the Protestant invention that everyone has the keys and all they mean is to preach the Gospel?
Smh96 2 years ago
Well, sometimes they get to the meat (which is either the authority issue as you note, or soteriology. Luther thanked Erasmus for dealing with the latter rather than the papacy, purgatory, etc., since it got at the heart of the matter). As for your claims, I'm afraid that history does not back you up. Rome's primacy cannot be attributed solely or even primarily to Rome's status as the capital. No Church Father held that view, that is your anachronism. And what SHOULD every Christian be?

Smh,
Sorry for the clutter, but let me write about the ethics of some fundamentalists/evangelicals.
None removed it.

Gab,
Yes, that headline is distressing, but upon reading the article, it looks like Fox is back into the "spin zone" using it.
182RG 3 years ago

Amen!

Graven images = sculptured idols
graven (adj) - Carved or sculptured, as in an idol.
Why would you pray to an inanimate object?
Gabeedmann 3 years ago
Wafers and grape juice instead of grace through faith?
Mary Immaculate and "Hail Mary" instead of Christ our Lord?
Idolatrous graven images of Mary instead of engraving God's laws upon our heart?
Sacramental baptism instead of baptism by the Holy Spirit?
The supposed "Immaculate Conception" instead of the immaculacy of God's grace and the sanctifying blood of Christ?
The authority of the Catholic Catechism instead of the authority of divinely inspired Scripture?
Catholicism is truly wrong!
Gabeedmann 3 years ago

The RCC added nothing to the Bible, Luther et al SUBTRACTED the books that did not agree with his ego. A simple wiki search would be a good place to start.

What about when Jesus was dying on the cross and He says to the thief next to him, "TODAY you will be with me in paradise"?
becreeper 3 years ago
becreeper
I know you addressed your question to Smh96, but please allow me to try and explain Purgatory.
One of the most vivid and straight forward descriptions of Purgatory in the Bible is 1Cor. 3:12-15. "Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each mans work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. (cont'd)
serverfix 3 years ago
...If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any mans work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire"
This passage can not be referring to people in Hell, because it says "himself will be saved" There will be no salvation from Hell. Heaven is also out of the question since there is no suffering in Heaven. So, where will this trial by fire occur?
serverfix 3 years ago
There is much much more about Purgatory in the Bible, but for the sake of brevity that is all for now. Let me just leave you with a final thought.
Purgatory is a GOOD thing. Since nothing defiled can enter Heaven (Rev. 21:27) Purgatory purges us of all sin before entering Heaven (provided we are fortunate enough, that is). Without it, we would have no chance at all.
serverfix 3 years ago
Thanks for chiming in, server. I think I'll make a short video addressing becreeper's question.
Smh96 3 years ago
You are very welcome and keep up the good work.
A video about Purgatory would be an excellent idea, it is one of the major stumbling blocks for many people on their way to the one true faith.
serverfix 3 years ago
that is not purgatory, that is the judgement seat of Christ.

If I may point out a misnomer: the Bible isn't infallible. It's inspired. There's a difference. But that's still a good point.
seltian 3 years ago
Yes, I agree that the Bible is not infallible and I often point this out to people. I get caught up in calling it infallible because so many people I debate with call it such. Bad habits creep in. People can be infallible, incapable of error, but things like books cannot be. I'd actually prefer the term "inerrant" to infallible, typically - the Bible is inspired and inerrant.

Look at proverbs 17:15
If he is just he must condem all people because it is written for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
But thats why jesus came. He came to drink the full cup of gods wrath and took our sins up with him and was crushed by God the father. Now the law has been satified by Jesus living a perfect life and drinking the cup of wrath that should be falling upon us.

Anyone who doesnt repent and life is changed by the power of God will be condenmd. Read also matthew 7:13-29 if you dont understand let me know, ill be glad to help you out.

so where it says all forgiving god , thats just another of the many contradictions i guess///
migo53333 3 years ago
Nope the lord is just.

Holy Mary Mother of God....wooooow you are really struggling here to grasp straws......
migo53333 3 years ago
Your getting me wrong. yes mary was truelly blessed to give birth to Gods one and only son, but the praise should not be hers, it should be Gods.
underoath8831 3 years ago
Now I just wat to go on the subject of mary really quick.
Where in scripture did jesus say that all may honor the mother as they honor the son as they honor the father?
Nowhere! rather he said that all may honor the son just as they honor the father.

Seltian - the bible IS the inspired word of GOD - God breathed!!! Making it infallible because God is perfection!
becreeper 3 years ago
Yes, the Bible is the inspired, God-breathed Word of God, and is thus INERRANT, but not infallible. Inerrant means without error, which the Bible is. However, infallibile means unable to teach error. The Bible can teach error (that is, people can misinterpret it. See 2 Peter 1:20 and 2 Peter 3).

Can people misinterpret an infallible proclamation of the Pope?

"Can people misinterpret an infallible proclamation of the Pope?"
Sure. If they do, the Magisterium will just further define the matter so that people will understand it better.
That's where we get terms like Transubstantiation or Immaculate Conception. Someone didn't understand a doctrine, so it was further defined.
seltian 3 years ago

God help them.

"the Catholic Church has not defined Mary as Co-redemptrix or mediatrix as a dogma of the faith"
That's correct. They are proposed roles. My apology for lack of clarification.
"simply sniping and running off"
Well, now that you put it like that....
