  • big ups to Azumah from Los Angeles.

  • azumah nelson is a beast. i grew up watching azumah nelson cos hes ma countryman, so wen salvador sanchez beat azumah, am like sanchez is a great boxer, tkod wilfredo. salvador sanchez is a very good boxer, so sad he died so young. he was destined for greatness

  • Fightnight should put CHAVA in the game no doubt i would only KO suckers with him!!! Cmon ea sports STOP BULLSHITTING!!!! Hahahaha THE GREATEST EVER SALVADOR SANCHEZ..... REST.IN.PARADISE CHAMP

  • You dont see fights like this one nowdays..

  • you cant build a reputation on what potential will do,thats why its called potential ,sanchez was incredible for his age ,but chavez actually did do what sanchez MAY have done ,you cant talk about those fights he lost after 90 fights ,chavezs c.v is amazing ,the best certainly on paper of probably anyone , equal most title k.os, most title defences, longest undefeated streak in history ,and its not like he handpicked all his fights like mayweather or catchweights in pacman .dream fight SS v JCC

  • For Sanchez to drop Nelson, was like David dropping Goliath. What a fucking fight, Whew!!

  • Sanchez wasnt the greatest mexican fighter,he had the makings to be,but unfortunately died too young to put him in that conversation,it would be unfair to other great mexican champions that lasted entire careers winning multiple titles,it was not meant to be.

  • Fists of elegance!

Chavez was nowhere near his caliber

  • boxing is not the same with guys like thsese

  • azumah es grande pero sanchez lo fue mas

  • Great fight. Both are gladiators! Salvador will go down as one of the best. maurice

  • Salvador Sanchez vs Thomas Hearns would it been the best fight of the century

  • Azummah's a real fucken fighter!..gettin the shit knocked outa him and still comin back...

  • Being Mexican, I see Azumah as an alltime great

  • Salvador Sanchez is the greatest fighter of the last 50 years!!!

  • What a boxer Sal Sanchez, he was really a great great fighter.

  • Anyone find themselves squirming with excitement, still? Wow!

  • Azumah was a Beast in the ring; Sanches' first real test: passed with flying hooks!

  • great fight, i think sanchez would have beaten chavez, he had just as much heart and endurance, he had more speed to boot. i think he could have beaten any great latino fighter: duran and him would have been a classic brawl, and since im talkin classic, there was no latino boxer with more of a classic style in the ring than alexis arguello...he was the most cerebral of the great latino fighters. but salvador... was...a...storm!

  • As GREAT as Salvador was this fight showcased an up and comer in Azumah who only had 13 fights to his credit... WOW!!!!!

  • This fight was Azumah Nelson's real intro to the boxing world, foreshadowed his own greatness. This was like his 13th or 14th pro fight, and we know Salvador Sanchez was at his PEAK at this point, a living LEGEND. If there was gonna be a rematch, if I were Nelson's people, I would've waited a couple of years for Father Time to catch up with Sanchez. Nelson hit HIS peak a few years later ('85 - '86), and THAT version of Azumah could've beaten Sanchez. This fight is a GREEN Azumah.

  • @Odawg96 Sanchez was barely 23 years old during this fight so he definitely hadn't peaked yet, he just accomplished way more than most other 23 yr old boxers could imagine. If I were Nelson's people I would've steered clear of a rematch with Sanchez altogether. Salvador had too much endurance/durability, skill and power for Nelson. Sanchez was the epidemy of a COMPLETE fighter.

  • @grandpated71 Yeah, I know he was only 23, and I've heard that argument before, so I'll counter with the exact same reply I've used in the past: chronological age means NOTHING in boxing. After all, Wilfred Benitez was at his peak in his early 20s, and by 25 he was washed up. The wars had caught up with him, and given the number of fights he'd had by this time, something similar could've happened with Sanchez. Of course, we'll never know.

  • @Odawg96 That's very possible but it is also very unusual for a fighter to fade in his mid 20s. Based on all of the other "all time great" fighters, it's highly unlikely that age would've caught up to Sanchez. He did not show any signs of wearing out in his last fights. As ossiezig8 points out, Sanchez was trained for a tune up fight here, so to postulate that Nelson would've beaten him in a rematch doesn't really holdany weight, but you are right, we'll never know.

  • The best was Chavez!!!!

  • @gabelilyrose00 A Chavez vs Sanchez fight would've determined who was the best fighter Mexico ever produced. It would've been really really close

  • @1968theduck

the poing on this fight is JUAN LAPORTE, laporte vs chavez is a closed fight... and laporte vs sanchez is for sanchez by easy way... this reference for me, get the winner....

  • @deltok Then using your logic you would also have to say that Sanchez vs Castillo was very close, but Chavez completely dominated Castillo and knocked him out, so it works both ways if you are going to compare both of their common opponents. Doesn't matter though, Foreman beat Frazier, Frazier beat Ali, and Ali beat Foreman, so common opponents doesn't tell the story. What does tell the story is that both Chavez & Sanchez were extraordinary in their own right.

  • @1968theduck

when castillo fight vs chavez, was in last fights of castillo almost retired... that is not parameter

Of course anything can happen in a fight and styles make fights.. but salvador would stopped chavez in DU..

  • @deltok Chavez had one of the best chins in the history of boxing when he was in his prime. Sanchez wasn't a huge one punch KO artist so I don't see how Sanchez would've stopped Chavez. Sanchez may have taken a close decision over Chavez because of his speed and skill though.

  • @gabelilyrose00 Yeah Right, That is why Chavez punked out of Frankie Randall fight and got destroyed by Delahoya. Salvador Sanchez is the best Mexican fighter of all time.

  • El mas grande de Mexico,Salvador Sanchez EPD Campeon.

  • @zulubro HAHAHA i feel ur pain "BROTHER" but if u feel that confident in what u comment than im SURE as hell AS TAKING MY BOY CHAVA IN ALL 3 OF THOSE BOUTS.... HE WOULDVE WON A TRILOGY AGAINST AZUMAH,GOMEZ,LOPEZ,LAPORTE,FORD ETC. ETC........... FUCK IT THROW IN ARGUELLO,PRYOR & EVEN THE PEOPLES FAV. CHAVEZ!!!!!!! HAHAHAHA NOW THATS CONFIDENCE!!! WHAT U SAY??? HAHAHAHA REST.IN.PARADISE CHAMP

  • if Azumah could extend the great Sanchez like this after only 13 pro fights, i believe Nelson would have won 2 out of 3 in a trilogy

  • @zulubro Doubt it. Remember that Sanchez trained for a tune up fight. If they would've rematched Salvador would've trained much harder and been much sharper. As proven in this fight, Sanchez could take everything that Nelson could throw at him, but Nelson could not handle the heavy handed punching of Sanchez. Nelson's entire face was busted up and swollen after this fight. I can't imagine how bad Sanchez would've made him look if he had been as well trained as he was for Lopez or Gomez.

  • @ossiezig8 I agree with you 100%. Sanchez was also a developing fighter who hadn't hit his prime yet. The second time around he would've trained for a championship fight and would know what to expect. I think he would've really sliced Nelson to pieces in a rematch.

  • now this is what you call REAL BOXERS. none of that mayweather gay boxing here. Sanchez and Chavez..true legends!

  • There was only one guy who could stop Azumah Nelson and that was Sanchez. Nelson has a heart bigger than almost anyone I seen and he put up a valiant war with Sanchez. It really took everything Sanchez had to win this fight.

  • All my respects for slavador sanchez. he was a master. god bless him

  • Pleaso nobody bring those racist comments to a Sal Sanchez video,Sal and Asumah Nelson were humble and respectable young man and that shit dont not belong here, this is not a Paquiao or Mayweather video were all comments are insults.

  • At 2:27 it looked like Nelson head exploded. What a great fight.

  • Wow!

  • Me as a young boxing fan it's really sucks to know that I will never see real fights like this one. In that time period the best fought the best. Now we have pussy fighters like gayweather who have no heart and afraid to fight the best in his time. I would give anything to see fights like this one live

  • This fight is just something spectacularly epic. Who knew about Nelson before this fight? Sanchez must have been feeling those shots for weeks after the fight, but wow, what a fighter Sanchez was. He stayed calm, took some hellacious punches and outboxed a truly great fighter.

IMO this fight should be considered in the top 10 of all time. It's that good.

And what a huge loss the world did suffer when Sanchez tragically died! But what a great last fight for an all time great fighter!

  • thanks for the post Erratic. it's too bad there's only a handful of fighters active that have the drive these two had

  • EPIC fight...a real war.....among two of the greatest boxers of all time...both are now legends....azumah nelson was an incredible boxer...somehow Sanchez managed to go the 15 rounds and knocked him out in the last......my recognition and aplause to that!!

  • Mayweather who? We are talking about real boxers here , not show man niggers like maywrather,he is not figther

  • @escoto1984 shut up spic

  • Nelson who the fought great fighters like Wilfredo Gomez and Pernell Whitaker said that Sanchez was the best fighter that he ever fought in his career.Sal was the only one to stop Nelson,RIP Salvador Sanchez.

  • Azumah Nelson: Greatest Boxer to come out of GHANA, AFRICA

Wilfredo Gomez: Best boxer to come out of PUERTO RICO

Salvador Sanchez: Greatest Boxer to come out of MEXICO

No other fighter from their countries have been able to top the caliber of competition these 3 Hall Of Fame Boxers competed against.

  • @Hitman1190 And Money Mayweather the greatest to come from planet EARTH :D

  • @DancingYeti187 LOL whatever man.

  • @DancingYeti187 Gayweather is a money maker not a boxer... Likes to pick his fights and runn around like a chump in the ring. lol

  • @Hitman1190

I agree, 3 unforgettable fighter and sure Salvador Sanchez was a real champ. At age 23 was 44 win (32 Ko) and 1 lost competing against great champ in the featherweight. How many others boxer at this age was like el Chava?

And what a style of boxing, a special fighter, against Nelson, Gomez and twice Danny Lopez has been a real monster. RIP champ

  • @Hitman1190 I disagree about wilfredo, Carlos Ortiz was the best

  • @poncekid56 I agree, Ortiz is PR's finest fighter of all time, IMO.

  • sanchez was indeed a rare specimen he was very special he threw the right combos at the right time i lov the 3 blows on the body

  • Unfucking believable! I forgot about the brutality and exquisit boxing skills of the Great Salvador Sanchez. Anyone else, Nelson would have steam rolled, but not Sanchez.

  • That left hook is beautiful

  • A LA VERGA, ESTA DEBIERA SER LA PELEA DEL SIGLO

  • Chava had it all. HE was the complete package: speed, footwork, combinations, decent power, solid chin, stamina, in-fighting, slipping, countering, parrying, and boxing. But what I think made him so great was his intelligence, he would sometimes switch to southpaw during his defense and deliver a left hook, he did on Azumah and Ford. Neither saw it coming!

  • azumah's determination is incredible

  • This is one of my all time favorite fights. It's so similiar to the Taylor vs Chavez fight in so many ways. Great highlights!!!

  • @ossiezig8 good call, its too bad about SS, he could've been the greatest featherweight of all time... now we still have to give it to willie pep

  • @RapedByRepublicans I would also give it to Willie Pep for no other reason than that he stood the test of time, but I still say that no non-heavyweight fighter in the history of boxing ever really accomplished as much as Sanchez did by the time they were 23 yrs old. If Chavez, Duran, Arguello, Pep, Ray Robinson, Pacquiao or many other superstars would've tragically lost their lives at 23 they may have never even been mentioned in the discussion as an all time great.

  • @ossiezig8 Billy Conn accomplished just as much by that age.

  • What a great, great fight!! A fitting final fight for an all-time great champion. It's hard to believe he was only 23, what a shame!!

  • I remember watching this fight live and thinking, "Who is this guy (Nelson)?" Like all great fighters, every time Nelson took a shot, he'd fire back like a tiger. He sure put Salvador through hell that night. And like the champion he was, Salvador put him away convincingly. One of the great fights ever at 126lbs.
